That made me laugh. It's so true! I had a Hostess filled pie a couple of months ago and I actually said "How did I like this shit years ago?"
Ha ha, I can only imagine! I can’t even remember the last time I had one.
I don’t eat much of anything like that anymore. I had a bite of one of my kids a peanut butter cups awhile back and it was unbearably sweet. Either they changed it or I changed
A couple years ago? I thought I remember a story where the Union and corporate had a new CBA deal that was nixed by the “chefs” Union so it went bankrupt. I probably only recall that because the thought of hostess having chefs made me laugh pretty hard.
In the 70's the high point of your school trip life was a trip to continental bakers in East Brunswick.
It was the factory where they made wonder bread, Twinkies, chocodiles and the like. In fourth grade it was like being taken to Wonkaland.
Endless conveyers zipping by with thousands of Twinkies ready to be wrapped, conveyers overhead with loaf after loaf of freshly baked wonder bread, chugging along the cooling track like a little train set of fresh yeasty deliciousness. The aroma was to die for, the sad sight of Twinkies that had fallen from their high speed journey, slumped on the floor, wasted! To pick them up and eat them was forbidden! We were standing right next to them and couldn't touch them! It was a treat for all the senses.
A goody bag at the end was the bonus we all waited for, a bag filled with fresh bread and sweet cakes, consumed on the bus ride home.
Better than any trip to the Statue of Liberty or the Museum of Natural History, that place rocked.
Devil dogs are still the best though.
Little Debbie is terrifying. The ingredients list make hostess look like french pastry.
RE: Drakes is by far the best but Hostess is at least still good
real job I had was as an analyst for marketing/advertising spend and return. We'd work with companies on their campaigns and provide the metrics on how they were doing by a variety of breakdowns (region, age, sex, etc)
One of my accounts was Little Debbie(McKee Foods) and I visited their facility in Tennessee frequently and they would always give me a bag filled with treats and coupons when I'd leave. The first time, I tore into a few of the treats. Every other visit, I'd put the contents of the bag in the common area of our office to let everyone else have their fill. I didn't like any of their items. Even their swiss cake rolls sucked.

I just read where Hostess was liquidated in 2012. From 1998 to 2012, Hostess owned Drake. It's one big, incestuous junk food circle
I like the Drake coffee cake but I could crush an entire box of 8

Haha! Wow. That is interesting. Strange that you can’t find Drake’s out west. I grew up on the east coast and you could find them everywhere. But, if you go to a Kroger or a Vons, they’re no where to be found.

Tastykakes used to be good as well, I put it just behind Drakes
While we're on the subject of baked goods, do any of you remember the Silver Cup industrial bakery on the Queens end of the Queensboro Bridge? The aroma when they were baking bread, oh my God...

I used to do a lot of biz travel in the south, and about the only sweet snacks you could get were Little Debbie’s. Most were utter garbage, but I remember the peanut butter bars being somewhat edible.
This is one of those comparisons where the only good answer is
So, a fresh whoopie pie is more your cup of sweetened lard?
I don’t eat that kind of junk anymore and agree homemade is better overall, but if you are going to compare them then Drakes wins.
They are both ok, but local brands are better
Hostess is just not the same anymore.
That made me laugh. It's so true! I had a Hostess filled pie a couple of months ago and I actually said "How did I like this shit years ago?"

Definitely. Loved Yodels and Ring Dings when I was younger. That being said, the Hostess fruit pies were a great sugar high.

It was well after my time of seeing them since that was back in the mid-90's, but Drake's was bought by them in 2012.

You’re 100% right! Bad form by me. Their coffee cheese cake is friggin amazing.
No love here for Tastycakes?
I used to love their Chocolate Juniors and chocolate cupcakes in the three packs.

These are actually pretty good!
Also, not sure who makes them, but Whoopie pies and Moon pies are pretty greata!
that thing blows all this stuff to smithereens
LOL
