job by boone.

I want to know why they had Green throwing low fastballs. That is not how he pitches and it sure looked that was where Brantley was calling for them.

Yankees pitcher Brooks Kriske just tied the modern-era record for wild pitches in an inning. Joins Walter Johnson, Phil Niekro, Kevin Gregg, R.A. Dickey, and Ryan Madson.

Is Fucking horrific.

How do you not get Papa Smurf out of the game for Sanchez with two on against a lefty in the fifth?

It's a joke at this point. Poon has NO feel for the game, no awareness, and he's a giant festering pussy listening to Cashman and his analytics pencil necked toilet stains.

You have your ace going tomorrow. Cessa had five pitches. FIVE! And you bring in Green.

It's just despicable.

And Green sucks.

You leave the game up to Brooks Krispy? Fuck you.
All I can say after that game is WTF?!
Matt M. : 7/23/2021 12:03 am : link
It covers so many decisions and the final outcome.

And win or lose, I absolutely hate the extra innings starting with a man on 2nd. That and 7 inning double headers.

He ran into one in 2003. Fine. It was an awesome moment.

But let's not pretend that that doesn't give him a pass for some Yankees fans. And Cashman knows it, uses him as a buffer for criticism all while letting him take the heat for his own failures, roster construction and reliance on an analytic philosophy that hasn't won shit despite spending well over $200 Million a year and having every fucking resource at his disposal.

What an utter and complete failure - from a winning standpoint - this organization has been for over a decade.

And don't give me the "try being a fan of another team" bullshit. This team spends tons of money and resources on building a winner and they sell that to fans - unfortunately, it's only winning in the bank accounts of the Steinbrenners and not on the field.
Giving up leads late in the game is getting to be a really

Very difficult to watch.

Chad Green has 7 career saves.......
TheMick7 : 7/23/2021 7:24 am : link
and 10 blown saves in his career. He's a very good set-up guy who is not cut out to be a closer. Now,I'm not a member of the Cessa fan club, not a fan at all! But, he threw 5 pitches to the heart of the Red Sox order to get them out easily, but Boone pulls out the script that says "Closer list" No Chapman,No Britton,we go to Greeny(because Boone has a nickname for everybody-he called Justin Wilson Willy) Does Mendoza do ANYTHING as the bench coach? Give any advice from the gut? Joe Torre doesn't win 4 WS w/o Don Zimmer whispering sweet thoughts of how to do things from his gut(Zim had quite a gut!). I don't remember a season quite like this where we are constantly reusing the phrase "Worst Loss Of The Season!" SMFH

Pitched two nights in a row..Cashman, Boone and Blake will not allow relievers to throw 3 nights in a row..it is understandable.

Removing Cessa after 5 pitches was dumb, but it was the "plan" - can't deviate.
I am a Green fan, but people are right - he is a great set up guy, but no closer - similar to Betances.

However, I still do not get why he was throwing low in the zone. He smoked Verdugo and later Devers on high heat(his trade mark) - but was throwing low to everyone else. He had a fee guys set up for the high FB and then tried low and inside? Was that lack of control or the plan?
Forget..
FatMan in Charlotte : 7/23/2021 7:52 am : link
about the coaching moves, Green isn't a very situationally aware pitcher. Going up in the count 0-2 to a fastball hitter should have seen no more strikes in the zone until the count got to at least 2-2. Make people chase, don't throw to the heart of the plate.

Analytics be damned, but stupidity be damned more.

No confidence in Boone and really think it's time for Cashman to be reconsidered. Hated the Stanton move when it happened and hate it more now. Gambling on Kluber? Poorly constructed roster with a heavy emphasis on sluggers. Is Thames the best they can do as a hitting coach who has presided over the decline in batting averages across the board. What the hell has happened to this team?

Maybe that is why Brantley has been in the minors to 2 or 3 years? You are correct, he got the 1st batter with a nasty slider for the 1st out...

Another debacle for this BP
Carson53 : 7/23/2021 8:09 am : link
One pitcher shit the bed (Green), and the other shit his pants (Kriske).
There are still brown stains on the Fenway mound I believe. How many games can you blow in a season!
This once vaunted BP, has really taken in on the chin so far this season. Good effort wasted by Monty as well.
Have to be honest
Carson53 : 7/23/2021 8:16 am : link
I blame Green more than a Kriske, I have low expectations for somebody like Kriske.
As soon as he came in, I said this is over. Boone thought he could get by with Kriske two nights in a row, not so fast...
Green is the veteran, you can't miss location when you are ahead in the count like that.
Boone
MookGiants : 7/23/2021 8:30 am : link
has had a handful of "should fire him immediately after the game" games this year.

But he wont be fired because he's a puppet for Cashman and thats all Cashman wants.

Cashman has to go for any of this nonsense to change. The Yankees need an entirely new direction. This team is on a path to no where, and it's not going to change unless Cashman is shown the door and an outsider is brought in to change the culture and totally change the direction
That was painful
PA Aggie : 7/23/2021 8:34 am : link
It's Boston, at their place, the first game of a series to set the tone, a makeshift lineup, you have them 3-1 in the bottom of the ninth, and THAT happens?! Microcosm of the whole season.

Worst loss of the season, worse than the Mets or Phillies meltdowns due to who they were playing.

Of course I do. The point I'm making regarding bullpens is that we sent a prospect to ditch Ottavino and now are probably going to send another to try and find someone at the deadline who's as good as Ottavino. The bullpen was a strength and Cash got cute and now we get to watch Nick Nelson and company.

I'd flat out tell Boone that if he really thought that Greene was throwing "good pitches" in the 9th, then he was either sleeping, out of his mind, or doesn't know baseball. I'd also start calling out the myriad of failed "analytics" inspired moves that have been made all fucking year. Enough is enough already.

Ottavino? It was Ottavino that the Yanks destroyed last night. Everyone needs to get off the Ottavino train. He is no better than what they have. He was good for 4 months in 2019 then shit the bed.

Loaisiga will be back, maybe tonight. Britton is just off the IL and working on control. I do not know what is up with Chapman, maybe it is as simple as that fingernail. They have Abreu who looks the part. They don't need to get relievers.

Severino should be back soonish...

Frustrating night
arniefez : 7/23/2021 8:54 am : link
Frustrating season. I don't think anything is going to change except the manager and his staff no matter what happens for the rest of it.

I'll never understand why a team with the resources that the Yankees have can't develop pitchers. I can name the pitchers that have become above average MLBers on Cashman's watch in the past 15 years on one hand.

So many talented arms and the Yankees can't even find a few relievers from their draft choices and farm system. Every young pitcher that comes up gets yo yo'd back and forth and shits the bed.

Some pitchers do well once they're away from the Yankees. What is the problem? Micro management? Too much tension and pressure in the clubhouse? I don't understand.

Ottavino? He didn't even a good season with us. His history is about 2/3 of a season good and then nothing down the stretch. That's what he gave us. He is entering the part of the season where he falls apart, supposedly from his arm getting tired. I think in a few weeks, no Yankee fans will be clamoring for him back.

They have been very fortunate on this short stretch being so short handed.

I have shared it many times I am not a fan of Boone and his game management. My biggest beef last night is him not letting Cessa have a shot to finish after getting through the previous inning on a handful of pitches.

On Kriske..well Boone really had no one else he could give the ball as Chapman & Britton were not available. Kiske did not handle the pressure cooker well and the Yanks blew yet another important game. Fist game of a key series like this is big. I am hoping for a split and then they take two out of three from Tampa none of which will be easy being so short handed.

I also would prefer they not trade away young talent ..overpay for and outfielder. Just live with what they have and hope Severino, Kluber and Schmidt all come back and make a difference. Yanks get on a hot stretch and perhaps the Ray and Sox split games against each other.Last night sucked it really did.... too many times this year I have awoken thing that..

Imagine Billy Martin having to deal with Britton and Chapman being "non available" because they pitched recently in the most important game to date this season. Just what in the fuck are they saving them for?
I don't care fingernail, 2 days of work, recent struggles, whatever
Matt M. : 7/23/2021 4:38 pm : link
You want to skip Chapman in the 9th for any of those reasons? Fine. But, then taking the lead in the 10th, you mean to tell me any version of Chapman isn't still a better option than Kriske in a save situation against the Red Sox? Just gross and no excuse for this loss.
