NFT: A little IT help - security cameras...

Damon : 7/23/2021 12:23 am
So, I have some indoor security/nanny cams. We recently had our internet upgraded and the WiFi is no longer 2g/5G/.... it’s now 5G only... is there something I can buy like an extender, that will give me the 2g signal the cams need? Or do I buy new cams? Hard to find 5G only cams... I’ve been googling all day and am coming up empty... thanks in advance.
What router do you have?

Check the settings to see if there is a 2.4GHz radio to be turned on.
I assume this wifi is from an internet provider like xfinity?

It'd be really strange for them to have just one wifi band and have that band be just 5ghz. There are just so many devices that are 2.4.

So as noted, it might just not be enabled.

I'd first call them to confirm that their wifi is only 5ghz and that's how it's supposed to be. They should have a "dual band" router that will support both 2.4 and 5. Or it can be enabled.

If for some reason you can't get a 2.4 ghz enabled on the router you're renting from them, I'd consider getting a mesh network. This could give you really good coverage at your house and would solve the dual band problem you have. Eero, Orbi, Google Wifi are all good brands. It's usually three separate small devices. You basically plug one into the router from the provider. Then you plug the others into areas where your signal is weak. And they work as a team to create a new wifi network with good coverage all over.
Buy a 2.4g secondary router
