I was wondering what connection there was, thanks. Still, pretty weak choice. Obviously Anak hit it on the head with Steamers, but barring that, something to do with rock and roll seems like a no-brainer.
Take away Chief Wahoo, and I think "Indians" was a good name. Or maybe make a licensing deal with one of the local nations - $1 mill contribution to that nation annually.

Or as Hondo from the NY Post used to call them, the Native Americans

The problem here is that the term "indians" is, and always has been, erroneous.
That's a jerky thing to write. This is both important and long freaking overdue and if you don't get it just keep it to yourself please.
No. It's not important. It's trivial and meaningless in the grand scheme of things. It's only important to those that continue to want to keep Americans divided. We are one nation. We are one people. We should never hyphenate or segregate ourselves in any way. There is one American Flag, One American National Anthem, there is one America. If you believe differently, you are a useful idiot to those that wish to keep us divided.
Even the owner didn't get what he really wanted (Black Knights) so everyone lost and wound up settling for a name with an adjective in it, which is a great way to sound like a minor league team.
Fans often have the right answer but then owners step in and show everyone who's an idio...er boss.
Having said that, why not go back to the Cleveland Spiders? At least there’s history there. Not to mention they could probably make a shit ton of money on retro merchandise along with the new stuff they’d be making. Seems like a missed opportunity.
Just shorten it to "Cleveland Rocks" lime the old Presidents of the USA song they used on the Drew Carey show. Original, unique, rolls off the tongue, plenty of opportunity to design a logo that incorporates music and stone. Really big whiff with "guardians".
Seriously, who gives an eff? Cleveland did a cost/benefit analysis and it pointed to a re-brand was in their best interest, end of story. Happy Friday.

We will be one people one day, but certainly not now. This change is a step towards your goal. Can you not see that?
in a few years most people will look back and laugh at how tenaciously people clung to the old name.
I would say this is not people clinging to the name. That's not the issue. The issue is the ridiculous pressure to change a name and capitulation for the sake of appeasement. Anyone genuinely offended by the name "Indians" needs to be ignored, not appeased.
Or Steamers
I guess Spiders were too scary?
Guardians of irrational sensitivities.

I like that the name has significance, and isn't just a generic nickname.

P.S. I do really like the new logo.....
And if so, I think the next step would be having the Cowboys change their name...

They did, long ago. “America’s Team.”
And if so, I think the next step would be having the Cowboys change their name...
You know that most actual American Indians don't remotely care about this, right?
BTW, most prefer the term American Indian to "Native American". Just so you know.

I'm deciding between the Dallas Brokebacks or the Dallas Debbies
