Rich Hill's Mets debut vs a familiar foe.
Mets lineup:
Nimmo CF
Conforto RF
Alonso 1B
Smith LF
J.D. Davis 3B
Villar SS
Nido C
Guillorme 2B
Hill P
Still no McNeil, who hasn't played since Wednesday. McNeil's "fatigue" makes me concerned with deGrom's "forearm tightness".
Also concerning is that deGrom ostensibly had some pretty good time off through the All Star break. Hard to believe, but Jake last pitched July 7th. That's 18 days ago.
Need both of these guys healthy to just get to the postseason.

Rojas should have pinch hit for him in the 5th with two on. I know he is worried about preserving the pen. But it was fairly predictable that Hill was going to struggle third time through that murderers row of RH hitters

I agree, but they’ve also got a doubleheader tomorrow, and one will probably be a bullpen game
He’s ready
This is fantastic but why did they stop him at 3 innings?? He actually threw LESS pitches today than he did in his last outing. Frustrating.
Either way, it looks like he will be re-joining the Mets and be in the rotation going forward.
Thank God.

Carlos Carrasco's "stuff was great" today, according to Luis Rojas, in his start for Syracuse. An industry source told us earlier to expect Carrasco pitching for the Mets for his next turn.
Walker
Megill
Carrasco
Hill
Its at least a full rotation after we get passed this damned doubleheader and Tuesday.
Then hopefully deGrom in 10 days pushing Hill to the pen.
That would certainly work if things go as planned. I bet they trade for another SP though.
Got what you would expect from Hill. The rest of the team rallied for the win

I mean I would think it’s bc they want him up in the rotation this week.
he's a rental, but a good one.
LAD and SDP reportedly interested
feel bad for the kid, at least it's not in NY where he'd probably be asked about it 15 times a day.

wouldnt be surprised if they do a modified 6 man rotation once everyone is healthy too

Wow, imagine if he just can't hit ML pitching?
You have to believe this isn't going to last, right?

no, it won't last. I seriously doubt it lasts.

But if you're a Mariners' fan, are you in panic mode yet? If you're not, you're close, right? This is 123 PAs and he's hitting .099.
Kelenic is similar in age (a little younger) to Tatis, Acuna, Soto - and those three all have achieved a lot already, and Kelenic is struggling massively.
Like I said I still think he'll be great, - he was crushing it in AAA after being sent down (over a 1.0 OPS) - but I wouldn't be surprised to see some fans frustrated and Kelenic maybe even letting some doubt start to creep in.
this guy was supposed to be the next Trout (or Trout-like).

The New York #Mets have been talking with the Chicago #Cubs about many players but one name that keeps coming up is lefty reliever Andrew Chafin. The 31-year-old lefty has a 2.06 ERA through 39.1 innings with a 37:12 strikeout to walk ratio.

#Twins starter Michael Pineda is drawing trade interest ahead of Friday's deadline, source says. Pineda, 32, will be a free agent after the season. His start Monday against the #Tigers will be watched closely by the industry. @MLB @MLBNetwork

Yes, because SS is a big need. Get all three and have the four SS offense.
I think Buster needs to put down the crack pipe
It would hurt bad to give up Ginn + Vientos for a rental but it may be necessary.
Random thought but if they do trade for a SP, I think I'd rather give up Peterson than Ginn, or at least I'd consider it. One would think he has more value since he can slot in to someone's rotation to start next year than Ginn who is still a few years away (which basically negates the age difference).
If they re-sign Scherzer particularly. They would still have deGrom, Scherzer, Walker, Carrasco, Megill, Lucchesi, Yamamoto for next year. And that’s without resigning a Thor, Stroman or anything else. It would hurt losing Vientos, but you have to do it, particularly since they are trading for depth there. If you consider Vientos a 1B/DH, they have Alonso/Smith, etc.

Some Max Scherzer trade odds:
New York Mets 3/1
Los Angeles Dodgers 7/2
Milwaukee Brewers 15/4
New York Yankees 9/2
Houston Astros 5/1
Boston Red Sox 6/1
Oakland Athletics 7/1
(From Bet Online.)

this basically lines up with how I'm thinking. I also think I'd much rather Sherzer than Berrios. I'd rather trade value for the better player than for extra years of control (that can be bought with cash).
I do think the idea of eating cash in Donaldson to pay down the Berrios price is interesting though. If you can get Berrios cheaper than Scherzer because you are taking back Donaldson's $50m (which fangraphs values as equivalent to a 60 grade prospect - so more valuable than any prospect in our system except Alvarez) you have to think about it even if it's nauseating to think about the $40m going to Donaldson/Cano in the 2 seasons after this one.
