For those who've asked ... Pirates included cash in the Frazier deal to boost caliber of return package.
Highly rated prospects? What would have been the Mets equivalent
Marcano was the Padres #5 prospect, in a deep system. Others outside top 30.
Taking a stab at it, I’d say the equivalent of a Gimenez last year plus Ramirez (Suwinski has some damn good numbers and I guess he would be similarly ranked if in Mets org)
Is 6th in their system. I'd guess he'd be a Vientos-caliber guy for them. Suwinski is having a blow up season in AA, 15 homers in 267 PAs, but hasn't shown thus type of power before in previous stops in their system before this season.
Marcano is the prize, although ge isn't in Fangraphs Top 100.
I can't believe the Mariners are eight games over .500 and just 1.5 back of Oakland for the wild card. I guess I just haven't been paying attention to the AL West standings enough recently but I've thought of Seattle as a bottom tier team all season. Seems like they're winning a crazy number of tight games somehow.
Apparently they're making a push to acquire Merrifield.

I liked at BAs prospect report on him and it wasn’t exactly awe inspiring. Skinny, zero power, really fast but has no idea how to run the bases, etc. Doesn’t sound like much of a prospect to me but who knows
What the hell are the Pirates doing? Maybe they ultimately couldn't have done better, but why not at least try for another five days? Why would they just assume this is the best possible return?

Mariners also made offer for Adam Frazier and did not ask Pirates to put cash in deal, sources tell @TheAthletic. Pirates sent $1.4M to Padres in part because they value Marcano highly. If he evolves into Frazier type, Pirates get six years of him for 1-plus of Frazier.
Whitt Merrifield to Mariners the offer isnt moving KC trying to get more don’t think they will but who knows
I saw they were making a push to get him and was pretty surprised. I know they're making a great run and I've always been a big Merrifield fan but I'm not sure acquiring a 32 year old is what the Mariners should be doing. Plus he's under a pretty team friendly deal through 2023 so he will definitely not be cheap.
Frazier's a good player who's having a very good year. He's due to
get a lot more $$$ on his next contract and the Pirates know they won't want to pay it. I don't know the value of the players they got in return and whether they could have done better, but trading Frazier was not a bad idea.

He’s got another year before FA. There was no need to rush a deal like this. It’s truly mind boggling. They could have dealt him in the off-season and had a bunch more teams involved. Everything I’ve read on Marciano has been less than complimentary. Maybe the Pirates know more than everyone else?

Consider this - the Mariners are dead last in BA (.218), dead last in OB% (.294), 26th in Slug% (.381), and 28th in OPS (.675). In other words, they are a disaster offensively.
And if you think pitching is the equalizer, they are only 18th in ERA (4.42) and 14th in WHiP (1.30).
The Seattle Mirrors.
How about when the Rays traded Chris Archer to the Pirates

They are 22-8 in 1 run games and The Mariners are 54-46 with a run differential of -52 this season.
They are the only team since 1901 to be at least 8 games over .500 through 100 games and have a run differential of -50 or worse.

Marcano, damn auto
🙂
I still can't believe Yajure, Smith, Contreras AND Escotto for someone coming off a second TJS.

And then Archer re-signed with the Rays this year.
LMAO
