Woke up excited to watch Women's Gymnastics final..then discovered NBC not airing until primetime.
I was disappointed but vowed to just keep my eyes off my phone and internet I general.
So I go put on NBC on at 9 and BOOM...they behave the result flashed across the bottom of the screen!! Doesn't showing the results on their network defeat the purpose of trying to withhold for ratings?
It's a different world than it was in the past. I really think they just need to make all streams available somehow and let people decide whether to watch live or recorded in prime time.
Am I missing something? Was that already available somewhere?
13 hours should be a good split where they can show some good stuff in primetime and in morning. It should be better than European Olympics. Can't wait for LA!
I think 1996 is when I started losing my interest in the Olympics.
NBC Olympics - ( New Window )
Damn..I have peacock just didn't know...well good to know for rest of the Olympics...thanks!!
Its common courtesy, and a really simple one at that. I stay off BBI if there's something i'm DVRing because people can't help themselves.
Sadly, they had gotten better about this like 2-4 weeks before the Olympics, but seem to have reverted.
People who REALLY care about it will find the live online streams. People who can go the entire day without finding out what happened will watch in primetime and enjoy it all the same.
NBC pays billions of dollars to get the latter group to park it on their couches and watch at 8pm. Those are the people who make the advertising dollars roll in.

Yes...I agree..but isn't it weird for that same network to report on the results all day then show them as if they haven't happened at 8 PM?
But the thing I always say when people say the Olympics coverage is too "American-centric" is that obviously it's going to be that way in America. It's just like watching a Knicks game on MSG or a Yankees game on YES. People in other countries are watching their own country's coverage-- pretty much every country (or at least language) has their own coverage/commentators. Even in other English-speaking countries-- in Canada it's covered by the CBC and in England it's covered by the BBC. There's really no harm in assuming 90% of the people watching NBC coverage are going to be rooting for the Americans and mainly watching with that in mind.
That said, something like not showing any of the England team gymnastics was indeed a little silly.
Well...they do have the swimming all scheduled to allow for it to be shown at a reasonable time Live in the US...so I think they may do that a bit.
You'd get better ratings with an infomercial featuring a barbed wire-wrapped butt plug shaped like the Statue of Liberty.
