1977 CBS NFL Today intro

I find this absolutely hilarious. And sort of depressing at the same time.

would get thrown in jail for hits like that these days. I'm an old timer, but the new rules are good.
i'm curious, but the link won't open for me

There are times when the old days

truly were better and not just nostalgia. The old pregame shows, :30 mins were all about the game and some feel good stories.

Today it is all noise, over the top segments, and so LONG... I used to not miss a minute each Sunday but now I don't even turn on the game until 12:55.

Plus, there is something about the old CBS NFL Today intro music that was just perfect for the show and the day.

Now, the hits from that video were pretty much all penalties in todays game.. Imagine the outrage if someone stomped on the middle of Davante Adams back or Tyreek Hill's back. The blatant face masks or pile driving Mahomes, Rodgers or Brady into the turf...
That one clip is Joe Turkey Jones upending Bradshaw

as he lands square on his head in 1976. Almost shocking he wasn't paralyzed by that blow.

Different times when QBs would take a lot of blows, often much later as big tough defenses ruled. WRs were jammed big time at the line and during their routes. Bert Jones was the only QB in the league that even threw for more than 3000 yards back in 1976.

Reasons why you can't compare QBs back then to today, and should pause before second guessing how some got into the Hall of Fame with their stats.
most of those hits were also

penalties in 1977. Blatant face mask. Stomping on a guys back. Yeah, it was tougher game but no, you weren't allowed to do that. And the Joe Jones - Terry Bradshaw play drew tons of outrage at the time. The big difference is that TV was using dirty plays in it's promos which would not fly today.

I don't tune in until 1:10, and only watch Giants games.
It's like those old time players

were playing for their lives. Really crazy contrast to today's game. Maybe the biggest evolution of an American pro sport.

Yeah, was going to say the same thing. I'm guessing the hit on the eagle where he almost got decapitated would also be a penalty back then, too.
I just find it hilarious

That the network producers would use those hits in the intro.

I mean, the guy stepping on that dude's back? That's fuckin awesome!

I know. Fast forward to now and they'd all be trying to top each other in how outraged they are, there'd be a twitter hashtag #suspend(insert name of stomper) and a whole big to-do about it
Hitting was a big part Football's appeal

at least to me.Watching those types of clips paved the way.

Nowadays, what are they counting to replace it,the latest dance?

There's no comparison, these empty suites will probably never get it.

They are competing with a 24 hours, 7 day sports news cycle. There is so much regurgitation because there's only so much sports new in 24 hours...

That was my reaction too. Even with the other clips ... that one stands out.

That was not a nostalgia trip for me, more alarming than anything, but I thank the OP for posting.
