NFT: Marty in Albany ( sweeteners)

Hi Marty
Yesterday you asked about sweeteners. I posted some information from the Mayo Clinic which indicates that most of the artificial sweeteners including splenda are considered appropriate for weight loss and diabetes.

I did some more thinking about this this morning. For any medical condition going to the web site of the Mayo Clinic is a good bet for reliable information.

For questions of food and diabetes I like to look up the glycemic index of the food. & lt; 50 good, 50-69 moderate & gt; 70 not good.

Sucralose the sweetener in splenda is fine, however the maltrin and dextrose have very high glycemic index.

Based on this I would say if the Mayo Clinic says limited use of splenda is OK that is a lot of expertise to fight but stevia also truvia are probably safer products.
I am also from Albany
