Great interview with Kevin Abrams

By Jordan Raanan on Breaking Big Blue podcast. Some really surprising and insightful stuff, including that Abrams hasn’t managed the cap in years.

I am not always a Raanan fan, but great episode. Learned a lot about Giant operations that conflicts with some of the narrative.

I agree

Very soft spoken and humble demeanor, just the opposite of Gettleman. Had me thinking that he is our future GM taking care of all administrative aspects of the football side of things with Judge being very involved in all matters of roster building.
Wait, if he hasn’t managed the cap in years,

Two other guys

Don’t remember their names. He says they are better than he was. They report to him, but they do all the work with NFL and analysis. It is a surprising interview.

He said it's Ed Triggs.
Thanks guys.

All this time I thought it was him
Jordan has come a long way in his coverage.

The interviews he has done on his podcast this summer (Eric, Abrams,Garofalo, LPG, Tuck, etc) all show what he is capable of.

I seem to enjoy his podcast and radio interviews more than his articles, but he has definitely moved in a good direction.

Agree, I've been critical of his writing in the past, but I think he's at times felt compelled to push out clickbait. But he knows his football, and his podcast is really good, with quality guests

Abrams comes off as a really cerebral, prepared, and calculated guy.

I thought he would get the GM gig after Reese was fired.
I listened

I thought Abrams came across as a valuable resource. I m thinking we were listening to the Giants next GM.
Jordan does a good job in the podcasts

He generally knows what he is talking about and does seem to care.

He's being quite selfless in that discussion. He still has oversight of the cap and like a good manager defers to the talents of the team members to give them praise. That was a very good listen.

Agreed. My only complaint is that Jordan interrupts his guest a lot, seemingly when they're about to give information that I'd like to hear (very much like Francesa). Otherwise, his podcast is at the top of my list, tied with Giants Insider.

It's a shame he didn't get the chance instead of DG. Much bigger chance we turned to more innovation with Abrams at the helm I think.
Does Jordan sound like a huge douchebag to anyone else?

I'm talking about his manner of speaking.

I've felt and said as much for quite some time that Ranaan got an unfair, raw deal here
I continue to believe DG was hired..
Sean : 7/28/2021 6:21 pm : link
with the intent to bridge a gap to ultimately hiring Abrams. The exposure for Abrams has increased since DG was hired, and now he’s doing an interview with Raanan. Seems the franchise wants to put him out there more.

It makes sense to me that Abrams will be GM, Pettit will run all scouting, and O’Brien was brought in as an outside voice with familiarity with the Pats program.

Obviously the team needs to win and show promise for all of this to work.
I'd feel very good about the team if they go to the playoffs

DJ improves and Abrams takes over for DG. Whatever DG and Judge would have proven together in that scenario I think Abrams could take farther.

Jones is the important guy though. How anyone could be confident that there is a fair assessment made on Jones' future by DG or Abrams in the event of a mediocre or worse season I do not know. But it's certainly a frightening prospect for me.

However, I'd be similarly encouraged even if we got another year of DG or Abrams and they moved on a new starting QB for next year to at least compete with Jones.

In a way you can look at how this Jones thing is handled as a big litmus test. Even the biggest Giants supporters frequently point to hanging on to Eli for too long as the thing that has really held back this rebuild. Given the opportunity to make a tough decision on a QB how much will they have shown to learn their lesson?
It's very hard not to be impressed with Abrams...

He handles himself very well. Like a GM should.

Good link.
That was a good listen. Abrams has some impressive
Jimmy Googs : 7/28/2021 11:23 pm : link
about him. Not certain he has the makeup to be a successful GM yet, but we already know the current guy doesn’t. So...
Just finished listening to this
arniefez : 7/29/2021 12:40 pm : link
lots of interesting information said and unsaid. Clearly Abrams wants everyone to know he's a personnel guy not a cap guy and he wants to be the Giants next GM whenever that opens up. Pretty smart of Raanan to give him the forum.

Enjoyed that and the rest of the interview, thanks for the heads up.

If Raanan's friends are reading this I still think he became a clickbaiting shit-stirrer upon his arrival at the four letter network.
Good listen…

I would love to know what KA would have done different if he got the GM job and not Getty. I know he would never spill, but that would be really interesting to know.

I don’t think Abrams will be denied a GM position the next time he interviews. I guess the question now is if he’ll wait another year if Getty remains. My sense (which is admittedly worth zero) is that the Giants want KA to take over next year or the following year.

Also, I think Jordan Ranaan seems pretty likable on his podcast. The only advice I would have for him would be to stay quite and let his guests ramble on more. You can always clean that stuff up in post production. But yeah, I like his podcast and don’t think he seems douchey at all. Seems like a pretty regular dude and actually seems pretty self effacing and humble tbh.
I think unless they have a winning season under their belts
NoGainDayne : 7/29/2021 5:46 pm : link
putting Abrams in as GM is an affront to the fans. No matter how smart he is.

The time to do it was before we had this ongoing suckfest of a team.

I don’t disagree. I know Lombardi says about the Giants that they need a complete tear down and rebuild. But, on the other hand, we don’t know if KA might have a different philosophy.
