could determine what kind of pitching help the Mets target before the deadline.

In a perfect world its
Degrom
Stroman
Carrasco
Walker
Mcgill

Thor and Hill move to BP?
Yes but Im almost positive we add another backend

SP.

Pretty crazy thought but even if we traded for Story and Gray... Does Gray crack our playoff rotation? Is Story even a starting player after Lindor returns?

Both legitimate questions.

But they definitely help our depth for now...

when we have Luis Guillerme.

We do need another mid rotation starter, depending on the health of Degrom, Carrasco and Syndergaard

I want to agree but I'm hesitant because there is some possibility that Degrom/Carrasco/Stroman have another IL stint before playoffs.

And unlike past offseason the trade deadline is it, there's not august moves allowed as I understand.

He won't get one this year, but Conforto has veen playing gold glove caliber defense in RF for some time now. One of the big reasons I like him, and a big reason I never thought McKinney was a serious replacement for him in RF.
anyone else

Huge, huge win

When Panda hit that last one, like Keith, I thought that was getting down to tie it.

What a game. Huge! These games are so incredibly important.

Rubber game tomorrow, and the Mets can put the Braves 6 back which would be gigantic.
Huge win
Gmanfandan : 7/28/2021 10:19 pm : link
Pushes the Braves back to 5 games out - tomorrow is WAY less important now and come Friday we get closer to full strength.
AND we are starting to establish the pen May - Lugo - Familia - Diaz and Loup for good measure

One of the biggest aspects of winning these tight games against division opponents.... they're getting it done without deGrom, Carrasco, Syndergaard, Lindor. This team is only going to get stronger, and then if they are still 4 or 5 games up, they can really slam the door.
Ok guys..
moze1021 : 7/28/2021 10:23 pm : link
That was a nice break...time to get the bats going again and run away with this thing...thanks.
Great game

Huge.
All these games against the Braves and Phillies
BigBlueNH : 7/28/2021 10:27 pm : link
are critical, from here on out. Showing some guts taking these close ones, with less than our full team. The pen was great again, and has saved our season to this point.
Familia
pjcas18 : 7/28/2021 10:32 pm : link
was filthy in a big spot tonight. Like 2015 filthy.

if he and Diaz figure it out that back of the bullpen will be tough on opponents.

neither has really been consistent though, so just have to hope they get right for the dog days and the stretch run.
Just to echo on Familia
allstarjim : 7/28/2021 10:36 pm : link
Remember when he was so awesome, and the. When he couldn't throw a strike and was persona-non-grata to us fans? I mean, I never wanted to see Familia in a Mets's uni again, and now I have more confidence in him than any other reliever on this staff.

Great stuff. That 97 mph sinker is a real weapon.

really is just a storybook feeling for Familia. He has re-built his confidence with Mets fans and I will be proud to see him on the mound again during our playoff run.

Wish Wheeler was here for this :(
I think he is finally healthy
Vanzetti : 7/28/2021 11:31 pm : link
His motion looks fluid like back in the day
Familia never lost his velocity or movement he mostly lost his control
Eric on Li : 7/29/2021 12:01 am : link
his HR rate is actually slight up vs. last year (quietly the worst of his career).
his BABIP against is way up (which indicates he's been unlucky).
his left on base % is the same as last year.
groundball % is actually down.

but the big thing is that his walks are down big and close to his career average. still not where they were during his best years but 4 per 9 innings is playable. 6 per is not.

also interesting, his K-rate is the highest it's ever been right now.

imo his guile and ability to work through jams has always been extremely underrated. in part because his walks create a lot of those jams. in a real tough spot like the one he came into tonight though I think I trust him more than Diaz. in a hypothetical world where the 2015 NYM defense made 0 errors behind him (specifically Murphy game 4 and Duda game 5) that series enters game 6 with Mets up 3-2. And that's despite the quick pitch homer in game 1.
Another strong game leading to a Mets win by Megill. Once again, he

should help give the rotation some stability. Megill's era is 2.04. I don't think anyone predicted that. More important is that the Mets are 6-1 in games he started.

years since that "trade" and then pivot to Cespedes, normally people say things like "hard to believe it's been 6 years", but not me, that seems like 100 years ago.

Amen. Hefner has some serious mojo. Really great work from Megill in a pennant race (or at least the warmups for one). Really shows great makeup and his stuff is pretty decent. I mean he’s MVP of July for the team in my opinion, edging out Alonso because of how desperately we need the rotational stability. Actually knowing who our next five starters are (knock wood) is making me giddy!

Carrasco should be good for 3-4 innings first game out and have a fresh arm. Big start for Walker at 12 today. He’s been no bueno. I’d phantom DL him when Jake comes back and let him rest. Already 27 innings over his last two seasons combined.

Well you're not going to win many games when you throw 5 innings per start. He's been great, but i'd like to see Rojas give him a little more leash (not so much last night, but the Toronto game he had another inning in him), and he needs to get more efficient with his pitch counts. (I realize thats the toughest thing for a young pitcher to learn - even half the leagues vets these days still struggle with it)
Is Megill for real?
