NFT: NBA Draft - Knicks Edition

robbieballs2003 : 7/29/2021 9:54 am
The current rumors are still the same. Knicks are trying to trade up. They are willing to part with both firsts. Their supposed targets are Davion Mitchell or Chris Duarte. I feel like a lot of rumors are started with agents using the Knicks as pawns because they have both draft picks and cap space so take a lot of these rumors with a grain of salt. Last year nobody saw the moves coming with respect to trades or us picking Quickley. So, sit back, relax, and enjoy the ride.

Well, Schmitz loves the pick

PGs still available.

Yup. They're basically punting the entire draft for FA.

I give him a lot of credit for not taking a player just because he has to burn off a pick. If he doesn't like anyone there, save the asset. I get the complaints about the return for #19, but maybe he was just more eager to get a comparable pick in a future draft, hoping there'll be someone he likes better then.
Duece?

McBride!

Let's go
Knicks

take McBride at #36. That should make some people here happy.
Love this pick

Knicms got their Marcus Smart, taking Mcbride
And if BJ Boston is there at 58
Anakim : 7/29/2021 11:35 pm : link
You bet he'll be the pick
Deuce!

I think many pundits thought Deuce was a better and higher rated prospect than Grimes

Same here, and I wanted Grimes at #32. Those two, plus a Euro stash, extra cap space and a couple of assets down the road makes for a productive night.
Overall good draft
NoGainDayne : 7/29/2021 11:42 pm : link
I feel like the protections on that Charlotte first rounder could have been better though. I can't see the Bobcats being good anytime soon, kind of just gave away the first rounder with those protections

Agreed. Was all unexpected and a real whirlwind, but the Knicks did well. Two basically guaranteed role players and a draft and stash with upside.
Might as well package #58 and cash to move up and take
Anakim : 7/29/2021 11:49 pm : link
BJ Boston. Charles Bassey would also be an interesting gamble.
McBride
DanMetroMan : 7/29/2021 11:49 pm : link
Was a good value pick and the pundits like the Euro. The 19 trade was not a good one. The protections essentially mean the benefit is a small cap savings for this year. We may not see that pick for a while.

Ultimately I don’t think it matters all that much. The most likely scenario is that they trade that pick in a bigger deal in the next two years anyways.

Haha, we discussed this like a week ago, right? Undersized, poor defender, short arm length and a bad shooter. For all his positives, those guys usually go in the second round.

Two picks later, the Knicks made Tom Thibodeau happy, picking up West Virginia point guard Miles McBride, who impressed the coach during his workout with the team. The former high school quarterback could be a draft-day steal.

“I see people ahead of him that I know he’s better than,’’ West Virginia assistant coach Erik Martin told The Post. “Some of those guys he’s outplayed when we played them. He’s 6-2, a former football player and a winner. He has toughness. He came in the door with that. Hopefully where he gets drafted is somewhere where he’d play.’’

Wow, Sharife Cooper disappeared. Taken at 48.

value, aside from the Jericho Sims pick. And trading the 19th overall pick for a very heavily-protected future first made no sense. Awful trade value.

pick was just like top 10 protected id consider last night a win. Not an awful night (pick 32 for 34 and 36 saved it). Just those protections make that pick pretty useless. I know it will be used in a trade and blah blah blah, but i just feel like at worst "lottery protection" should have been doable.
Last night proved 1 thing to me
nygiants16 : 7/30/2021 8:05 am : link
they are going to spend money in free agency..

Also Hahn mentioned on his facebook page that the Lithuanian guard has already worked a buyout with his team..

The Utah Jazz have agreed to trade C Derrick Favors and a future first-round pick to the Oklahoma City Thunder for a future second-round pick, sources tell ESPN. Jazz create some financial flexibility and Thunder grab another first-rounder.

It felt to me that once their fave guys in the teens were gone, they wanted out of the range their picks were in. Clearly they were willing to pick some guys but prioritized having future assets - the kind that get used in trades for Vets. They came in with 4 picks, picked four players and still have a potential first round pick and a second round pick in future drafts.

You can say that the guys they would have gotten at 19 and 21 and 32 would be better than who they got at 25 and 34/36. But if the Knicks are hunting vets, not trying to find franchise players in the late teens, early twenties.

They got future assets, opened a little cap space this year and next and picked 4 interesting players whose fit with "Knicks Basketball" all really makes sense. You can see how all of them really fit how the Knicks want to play. It was a good night, IMO.
