and I love that they acquired two good lefty bats in the last 24 hours. But I was really hoping the Voit trade rumors meant they were focused on getting a shortstop to move Torres back to 2nd. It's purely an opinion (that I know others share) but I really think his struggles at the plate have a lot to do with playing a position that he's struggled at.

Still time to the deadline.
I don't follow. Where is DJL going in this scenario?
3 homers in last two weeks and a long sac fly in Fenway that would have been way out in YS rightfield.
You can question his fielding as an SS but I don't buy the narrative that where he plays in the field is the reason for his power drop off at the plate.
DJL isn't a great first baseman and, if you move him there, you're losing the opportunity for the lefty power bat. Any SS you get is likely to be a righty (not many Didis out there).
Rizzo doesn't strike out much and he could stick around and not just be a rental.
I like it.
Steep price for a rental. I feel they paid more in potential for
Brother in law, big Cubs fan, hates it. 'He should have retired a Cub. Fucking hate that the Ricketts & FO act like Chicago is a small market team like KC.'
With the Yankees getting to reset after the season, I wonder if he can come to an agreeement with him on a contract. If they trade Voit, who plays 1st next season.
DJ plays first. However, is he a very good 1st baseman? He does his job at first. But, he is no tex or Tino. I don’t follow Rizzo. Is his defense very good?
DJ is not a good 1B. It's his worst position but I think if he'd played it everyday he'd be league average. I don't think he had ever played 1B before the Yankees stuck him there.
Gallo is also a good glove. Both guys are massive upgrades for the 2021 Yankees. They still need a real SS but there's no room for now and they need a CF unless they're going to commit to Florial and they need more pitching.
I would think it's impossible to address all of that so pitching is hopefully the focus between now and 4pm tomorrow.

but hate both trades. Stinks of Cashman trying to save his ass. Now we have to dump Voit and will have no where near the pitching needed to make a run even if we make the playoffs.
Back to the days where we had a name at every position.
I just don’t like having to trade better prospects, especially in the Rizzo trade, just so we don’t take on salary.
Baseball is a crapshoot, what if ball doesn’t bounce our way and we don’t get into the postseason, then the prospects turn out to be something down the road? Hal will end up forking over more money anyway.
He should be mad about paying 200M for an often injured, poorly constructed team in the first place.
I like Rizzo way better than Gallo. Good lefty glove at 1b
If no deal is struck to send Voit out of the Division or AL, he slips on a banana peel and gets IL'd for the rest of the season. Guess his knee is problematic and undoubtedly needs added time to properly heal. Yankees will regroup over the winter to see if Rizzo stays or leaves.

I disagree. DJ is a really good first baseman.
DJ isn't in the same category as Rizzo defensively. It's not even close.

Projected Yankee lineup: LeMahieu 2B, Judge RF, Gallo LF, Stanton DH, Rizzo 1B, Torres SS, Sánchez C, Urshela 3B, Allen or Gardner CF. Could also flip flop Rizzo and Gallo if they want more of a contact hitter in the 3-hole.

Very interested to see what Matthew Blake does with Andrew Heaney. He’s always off the charts by advanced metrics (104 Stuff+, 107 Command+, top 25 K-BB), has high spin, low slot 4-seamer, and has underperformed his estimators. Tough park, but maybe some clay here to be molded.

I didn't say otherwise.
DJ is a decent 1B. He seems to struggle with pop-ups no matter where he is. I’m not just talking about the one in Tampa to end the game. I got nervous seeing him take charge. Was hoping Odor would have called for it.
He usually looks shaky on the really high ones.

Prior to tonight’s game, the Yankees made the following roster moves:
•Added INF/OF Joey Gallo (#13), INF Anthony Rizzo (#48) and LHP Joely Rodríguez (#30) to the active roster.
•Designated OF Ryan LaMarre for assignment.
•Optioned RHP Albert Abreu to Triple-A SWB.
I'm guessing they're giving up on Voit. I like him, but he's been injured practically the entire season with multiple different injuries.
High OBP, lefty power, leader in the clubhouse, multiple Gold Glove winner...
Need more?

other than keeping him away from Boston. Am I missing something?

I guess but aside from Voit not being healthy, is Rizzo really an upgrade at this point?
Still time to the deadline.

The Yankees are trading Alcantara and Vizcaino for Rizzo. The Cubs are picking up all of Rizzo’s remaining salary.
Been an eventful day before the deadline, that’s for sure.

It’s really the penny pinching Yankees now. Wow.
I wasn't evaluating the prospect cost given up.
Yeah, and it's not as if Yanks are giving up top prospects either.
He’s a rental.

Biggest issue to me is that is forces DJ to stay a 2b, so that mean Torres is still the SS.

Guess were stuck with him for now. Too bad useless Stanton can't play some LF could DH Voit.
I'm thinking if he could, maybe Stanton could move into left and Voit could DH come playoff time (fingers crossed we actually make them).
Yes, Gallo has played 55 games in CF, including 34 in 2019.
And Boone has talked about giving Stanton reps in LF against the Marlins this weekend, with no DH.
But I don't think we'll see Voit DH/Stanton LF/Gallo CF because it would put Gardner on the bench.
