Bryant has been linked to the Mets for weeks but Baez is in the discussions as well. Baez could replace his great friend Lindor at SS, then switch to 2B once Lindor returns. Baez said aloud this week he wanted to team with Francisco. So either Bryant or Baez are possible for NYM.

Zach Davies is a target for the Mets, who remain most focused on pitching. But his more high-profile teammates Kris Bryant and Javier Baez (one or the other) are also Mets possibilities.

but bigger fish would have cost more, only hope these two didn't cost a ton.

I hope so to.
Hopefully they didn't overpay.
sadly, I don't believe that will be the case.
Always braced for the worst, because I'm an unapologetic prospect hugger.

Wow...another one now where we kind of have to extend Baez to justify this...
But..at least it's not Baty, Alvarez, Mauricio
Awful deal.
Awful deal.
Don't get me wrong, PCA looked intriguing before he got hurt, but if Baez signs longterm (he said he would change positions to play with Lindor) next year you have McNeil or Cano at 2B and Baez at 3B. Once Cano's monstrosity is over you slide Baez to 2B and Baty at 3B. Mauricio has to go somewhere so you put him in CF. Where does that leave PCA?
PCA was viewed as the CF of the future for the Mets.
I think so.
you mean rizzo?
And Williams is awful. Guy might not even still be on the team by the end of the season.
Depends what you think of Baez. PCA, for a HS kid who did not play after being drafted due to COVID shutting down the minors, did not look out of place in a small sample size before getting hurt. He was doing it as one of the youngest players in his league. The hit tool is legit as well as the defense. The one question he has will be how much in game power actually develops.
Maybe a little more power from 2B, and a great base runner. McNeil will play third a lot more when Lindor is back, J.D. vs lefties.
My guess is when Lindor returns we see a lot less Villar.

Lol...I literally forgot that Cano was a Met. Hopefully he retires.

Mets really failed this deadline. Damn

No rumors they were in on Bryant too. Guess just rumors still.
My thoughts exactly!
It’s fine overall but PCA was WAY too much to give up. His surgery was on his non throwing arm. Unless, his surgery was a complete disaster I wouldn’t have given him up.
Losing PCA sucks even with the injury. No sugar coating that. He sounded like a potential GG CF so even if Mauricio and 1 of Baty/Vientos move to the OF, CF will still be thin. Unless Mauricio moves to CF? I would have liked to get a better 2nd player in this deal. Williams is better than Eikhoff but that's about it.
This stings but I do think Baez is a big time addition. He is absolutely the type of high upside pickup I was hoping for.

A better 2nd player probably adds to the prospects they give up. Is Davies that much better than Williams? It looks like Williams's biggest issue is the long ball. If Hefner sees something he can fix in the short term at least we have another playable arm so we can avoid Eickhoff, Banda, etc.
I kind of doubt that. I think more likely is if they are considering shifting Mauricio and others to the OF who would be higher on the prospect depth chart than PCA. Plus the injury uncertainty probably makes it easier to deal him now even if the prognosis is a full recovery (kind of like when they almost dealt Wheeler for Gomez).
So with so many IF'ers on the big league roster, do we think this means JDD (or someone else) getting traded out? Maybe JDD for a pitcher? Mayer is saying they are about to add someone and floated Maeda.
I think this is a decent move. No way imo does this make us arguably worse when Lindor returns.
Some of you sound ridiculous and then others agree.
It's ok to say it's a shitty trade even if you support the reasons they made it. You don't have to put your head in the sand

The #Mets have reportedly acquired SS Javier Baez ($8.7M median trade value) and RHP Trevor Williams ($2.1M) from the #Cubs in exchange for OF Pete Crow-Armstrong ($17.5M).
The deal is accepted, but as a major overpay by New York.

Even as an overpay, this seems in line with some of the crazy deals we've seen today.
Additionally, Crow-Armstrong is a particularly high-variance prospect, given his age and questions about his bat.
