NFT: Ted Lasso - yikes

Pete in VA : 7/30/2021 2:28 pm
I apologize if I've missed a recent discussion of this hot issue. I did do a search and it turned up nothing.

I was a fan of the first season, but the first episode of season 2? JFC was that bad. I half expected someone to drag a blow up shark into the locker room. Am I wrong here?

imo

yes. I thought it was funny but seems to be the in thing to hate on it on the internet. Are you not happy with a fake dog being killed? that seemed to be what everyone was up in arms about
No

The fake dog being killed was not an issue for me. What's an issue for me was that it was not funny at all. Not that scene, or any other scene. I thought the writing was bad.

didnt feel all that different then the first season humor wise. Havent watched episode 2 yet today though.
I saw the first episode
Gman11 : 7/30/2021 2:51 pm : link
that was enough for me. It's not funny.
I have not watched any of the 2nd season yet
Jints in Carolina : 7/30/2021 2:52 pm : link
but the first season was great TV to me.
Loved the first season
81_Great_Dane : 7/30/2021 2:57 pm : link
but rarely found it laugh-out-loud funny. I just really liked the characters and their relationships, thought it was a good story, well told. The Diamond Dogs, the friendship between the women... Somehow they took this cartoony premise and found real warmth and humanity in it.
Great TV show

it is well written tv show with some laugh out loud moments.

Great story and great characters.
Seems to be that it's

either a love it or hate it type show. That said, I've loved it so far.
This place is funny

I absolutely love this show and everyone I know is obsessed with it. Didn’t it win a bunch of awards? This show is great. At least, IMO.
Episode 2

Was fantastic. My spirit animal is a mix of Ron Swanson and Roy Kent.

was running out so I gave Season 1 a go a couple of days ago and ended up binging all 10 episodes. Yup, great show. So well written and acted. Not enough to get me to re-up for season 2 though..lol. I've got enough subscriptions and Apple needs more content.

Apple has some good shows - Morning Show, Mythic Quest, Schmigadoon, Ted Lasso. But I agree that they need more content.

I'd add Defending Jacob and Home Before Dark to that list although I might be the only one
Ted Lasso is fantastic

and Apple TV is in its infancy, the content will grow. It’s $5 anyway, it’s essentially free.

For All Mankind is one of the best shows in years too, by the way.

I do feel like it's lost some of its charm. The jokes aren't really landing or seem to be forced. But it's early yet. Sure, there hasn't been a scene remotely as enjoyable as the first season's dart scene, but the first 4 episodes of last season didn't contain any either.
Most people binged season 1
UConn4523 : 7/31/2021 7:11 am : link
after they heard the buzz and now aren’t watching in the same format. Most genres but especially comedies have a different perception when watching 1 per week - if there’s a lackluster episode it feels like more of a miss than it is because you are left waiting for a week.
There's definately a hole
Gmanfandan : 7/31/2021 11:26 am : link
They need to fill somehow. The tension on whether Ted will succeed or fail - the idea that the owner is keeping secrets from him. The Jamie Tartt character who is battling against him.
So I thought EP 1 was pretty good - but missing that underlying drama/humor. EP 2 was better and we're off the races.
On a side note would have loved to binge S2, Ive become a huge fan of watching TV that way instead of weekly.
I actually thought it was funnier than season 1, but I agree kind of
Zeke's Alibi : 7/31/2021 12:06 pm : link
curious were they are going with the plot to build some drama. Unless they want to go to a straight comedy, which I honestly thought it was going to be last year with Sudeikas.

Apple is really crushing it and I like their model of making good quality shows with broad appeal. For All Mankind wasn't really my cup of tea, but it's hard to argue the quality isn't there. I think I've watched and liked about a 1/3rd of their catalogue.

Big Asimov fan and always wanted to see a Foundation series on HBO (becuase its going to be awfully hard to bring to screen and why it hasn't yet) but its certainly in good hands with Apple.

It’s a remarkable show and I can’t believe it hasn’t gotten more buzz. Absolutely nails the time period and the cast + writing is great.
