Following a battery of tests, it was determined no surgery was needed.
So, that likely means a strain but not a tear (the latter being a more severe injury of torn soft tissue than the former). Strain, if the case, sounds innocuous but can be maddeningly slow to heal. He's young, so hopefully it is 2 weeks + or - and not an order worse.
Glad to hear all the linemen were wearing braces, which is something I've thought should have been done years ago. Yes, there is some impediment to speed/flexibility/reactivity, but the materials now are so light and tensile strong that imo mitigation of injury in the car wrecks of the trenches is worth the loss of AA. I wonder if they will be worn normal course in games. Some OL you see them with as their standard equipment.
