today. Finally he has some good AB and then Boone sits him for Gardner going for the sweep where they have struggled all season .
They are obviously desperate to make the playoffs trading for Gallo and Rizzo but then they don't put their best foot forward on a daily basis . Makes no sense

we already know. Boone got his lineup printout from the Yankees ML system.
to see how he justifies it and also for the media to put pressure on the Organization for the way they operate.
Trading a lot of quality prospects in your farm system to make a playoff push and then benching Stanton for Gardner after he got pulled early anyway the last 2 games is a complete contradiction

I think several good posters have said the guys they gave up were either going to be lost to Rule 5 draft(possibly) or were blocked by others at higher levels. So prospects serve no purpose if they are lost for nothing or just linger in the minors for years.
FWIW...
@section125....If they can re-sign Rizzo then Trade Voit in the offseason. For the rest of the season have Stanton in LF and DH Voit/Odor depending on matchups

Cashman and Boone will not let Stanton play the field. I wish they would. He can play. But if you notice, he does not run out grounders much more than trotting. I am sure they told him it is not necessary to reduce/remove any chance of a pulled muscle.
My die-hard Cubs fan friend says the sentiment amongst the beat writers is that Rizzo is so entrenched in the community there that this is essentially the same thing as the Yankees did with Chapman a few years back: a few-month rental in exchange for prospects. He fully expects Rizzo to re-sign with the Cubs in the offseason.

I'd be shocked if this wasn't the case.
Probably correct, but the Yankees do have that huge aura...and I'd bet Voit would be cheaper to sign then Rizzo, so Cashman would lean that way.

Voit's under contract for 3 years if my memory is right.

Well then that is your answer...(Team control for 3 more years) Voit is not as good as Rizzo, but that doesn't matter to Cash or Hal. Somebody on the team needs to be cheap to pay for Cole, Stanton, DJLM, Chapman, Britton, etc plus Judge, maybe. I do not see Gary getting huge $$$.
I always loved Rizzo as a hitter and all around excelent baseball play

Kris Bryant said that Jed Hoyer did the best he could to put the four players traded in the best situation to win and from a family perspective in the immediate term. Pretty sure Rizzo will be back unless the Yanks pony up a ton of money.
a gold glove 1B who is a selective, contact hitter. Who knew that was important in MLB. Offer him the same contract as DJ. The Cubs won't come close to that.
He's from Florida (alum of Marjory Stoneman Douglas),
I would want to re-sign Rizzo over Voit. I was advocating trading Voit last year as early as before the season ended. I always felt last year would be the height of his value. He is a nice player, but with his health, average at best glove, and last year probably being the max power output you would see from him, he's not a necessity to have.
Even if Rizzo proves too expensive for Hal's imposed budget and/or he wants to re-sign with the Cubs, I would still try to deal Voit and figure out 1B. For example, on the cheap they could try to work Andujar at 1b beginning as soon as the season is over.
If that was the case why is he a free agent? I guess it's possible but the Cubs seem to be rebuilding meaning going cheap with owners that are horrible in every way. Rizzo is everything you want in baseball player but he is 31 years old.
Course we have to wait to see how things play out. Why would Rizzo who can go anywhere, want to go back to a team that is rebuilding and probably won’t be a contender for 2-3 years down the line.
Send him.
Really tired of defenders using the sweep tag to push runners off the base.
I know about it. That is how I watch Giants games...
I have feeling he re-signs with the Cubs in the offseason.
You probably would...
if
they can avoid the temptation to swing at pitches 5 inches over the zone.

Nice Hit by Gallo. That was a HR in YS. Need to get him in here

Rizzo is an upgrade, no doubt. What are they doing with Voit since they did not trade him?

I would have Stanton play the outfield 3-4 days a week and DH Voit.
This guy is out of control..

Love me some Rizzo. Well done Cashman
More stellar pitching...

other than keeping him away from Boston. Am I missing something?
Still missing something?

Anyway, nice to follow through and actually get the sweep this time.

Gallo just what I though he'd be: a lefty version of Stanton, Sanchez et al. 1 for 12 with 5 Ks.

Yes. I heard him talking about going to the Stadium as a kid on FAN this morning.

Even with Chapman's struggles a couple of weeks ago, I'd still prefer him over Britton if forced to choose. But, I'd be fine either way.
