about this story in the NHL free agency thread, I have no idea who is being truthful here, but in my experience divorce brings out the worst in people.

I will say though, while I like Evander Kane as a hockey player and think he's got some skills, I seriously doubt he can "tank" a game.
theres alot of objective stuff in his background that is very troubling. not to say it means its true by any stretch, but not the kind of stuff you want in your background if an accusation like this is made against you.
is tanking a game. A goalie could, but I don't see how a skater could. However, the point about prop bets is a good one. If you put money on yourself for something like over/under shots on goal or minutes played, you could certainly influence that.
If it is true he is bankrupt three years into a 7 year/$49M contract, it's not hard to imagine he may have a gambling problem. The accusation (if true) that he owes a Vegas casino $500K would seem to support that conclusion.
But what is true is he filed for bankruptcy and was sued by a Casino for $500,000 dollars.
So what he's betting on and how he's gambling isn't clear, but what is clear is he has a gambling problem. So either his ex is telling a lie she knows people will believe because there's anecdotal evidence supporting it, or she's so infuriated with him that she's flat out outing him for gambling on his own games.
But... it's human nature to speculate, and I can't help but think a guy who's that deep into a gambling debt situation is pretty likely to at some point gamble on something he knows most of all if there's an opportunity to do so... his vocation.
or had one... but the rest, who knows. I wish people didn't act like this during a divorce - especially when there are children involved. If she had real concerns, just contact the NHL directly. The public part of this is what makes me less likely to believe her.
