When I coached, I took on special teams. I agree with the statement that the punt team gets the most attention. I'd always be out at practice early working on snapping and punting. One year our punt team won us multiple games because I taught my punter how to punt a spiral. High school kids weren't used to it and couldn't handle it.
When it came to onsides kicks I always had like 5 different types and we would break one out about every game with the right approach. We'd look for a weakness and attack it. We had a very high rate of success. So when I see Judge out there practicing that with his players shows me that he truly does give a shit. Yes, it is fun but it is also extremely useful to try out new ways to do things and have you players ready for anything.
