my memory is bad, but he was good for a couple starts when he came up and them was meh afterward. They could be right that he was over tweaked, but he seemed to have been on the downward spiral before this winter.
a couple of times in Tampa and Lakeland in A ball. He was lights out. I thought he had a real shot at being special if his arm held out. Whatever the reason, he has spiraled downward.
is hilarious. Who do you think hired the guy that f**ked him up? it's just bad luck that every pitcher the Yankees gets their hands on is worse than his last stop or completely s**ts the bed if they're from the Yankees system? That's it 20 years of just bad luck.
So they've turn Garcia into a low slot slider pitcher? Remember there is a different MiLB and MLB pitching coach staff then when Gray was a Yankee. I wonder who was pulling the strings then and now?:
Quote:
The Yankees were forcing Gray to throw a slider -- a pitch he wasn't comfortable with.
"They love sliders," Gray told The Athletic's Eno Sarris. "Sliders are a great pitch. The numbers say slider is a good pitch, but you might not realize how many s--tty counts you're getting in while throwing all those sliders. They wanted me to be [Masahiro] Tanaka and I'm way different from him."
Gray goes on to say how he would find himself behind in the count 2-0, but sliders were still called for him to throw. He had good break on the pitch, but he had no control over where it would end up on the plate.
So, as Gray tried to correct that issue with the pitch, it only wound up being a spinner in the middle of the zone which looks like a beach ball to the hitter.
"When I try to throw sliders for a strike, I get around it and it's just a s--tty spinning pitch," he explained. "I don't know how people throw sliders for strikes that are still tight, good pitches. I'm at 2-0 and I'm throwing a slider, and either I'm throwing a s--tty slider in the zone, or I'm yanking it into the dirt and it's 3-0 and I"m screwed either way."
Gray's worst outings seemed to have come at Yankee Stadium, too. He collected a brutal 6.98 ERA in the Bronx in 2018, and he went to the Yankees' coaching staff asking what they thought the issues were.
"Am I nuts?," he asked. "Do you see a difference? What's the difference? They said, 'No, you've just been unlucky.' I was like, 'That's bulls--t.' "
true Arnie. the geeks are control and Cashman put them there
to the contrary. Had no ideas who Ridings was, missed his inning unfortunately.
As for Garcia, he’s just a long line of prospects that the Yanks screw up. They have a habit of not believing in these prospects and yet refusing to trade them while value is high. Instead they jerk them around until they just fade away.
RE: Gil looked good, seems to know where the ball is going unlike reports

+1 on this.
Yesterday, a few callers for Michael Kay were debating Florial over Gardner. His response was the people in charge are more familiar with a player in their system and if they don't feel he's ready, they must see/know something that we, as fans don't. I call BS. This is an example of exactly what you described. It may have more to do with Gardner than Florial, but committing to playing Florial everyday at this point could literally do no worse than doing so with Gardner, but has the greater liklihood of reaping short and long term gains. Plus, it returns Gardner back to the 4th OF position he was re-signed for. Instead, he is out of the picture while Gardner bats .200 and has diminished play in the OF, but pressed to play CF with more regularity than we would like.

agree with both of you. Florial was 6 for 20 with 5 walks and can fly. Gardner is finished.
For all we know Florial is a Gerald Williams but I don’t get why Wade
Are the pitchers the Yanks have developed. Name one! Now think of all the pitchers developed by Tampa Bay. Imagine if the Yankees had the salary restrictions Tampa have. Would we win 25 games a year. Sickening how long Cashman has fooled the media and fans.
And I will add, I don't know Florial is the short or long term answer
But, the point is, we will never know if he isn't playing. The other point is, we already know what Wade and Gardner are and neither is a good option. Florial could very well prove to be mediocre or worse. But, if they aren't willing to find out by actually playing him, then they need to trade him now, while he still has value.

Exactly. He got the call and produced. Play him or get something for him.
and now everything is just plain hittable.
Geez. They need to find how this is happening? Are other teams having these recurring Covid issues?
The Yanks got the J&J vacine which is relatively ineffective against Covid. They should have received the Pfizer instead.

God forbid Florial shows out and makes Hicks expendable. Nah, can’t have that.
I hope they promote Peraza and Volpe soon, both have already shown they can handle and excel at their new levels.
