i love this. I know he isnt what he used to be, but he is only 30 and if he can get healthy he is a steal. Much better then any other options we had. If nothing else his upside blows away pretty much any other option we had.
Even as "awful" as he was last year he is a massive upgrade to Payton, lol. Payton to Walker and Bullock to Fournier with a full season of Rose are pretty solid upgrades.
he is two seasons removed from getting a huge contract. He gets a more normal offseason to get healthy. This could be a huge add, and if he sucks, so what we arent paying him 20 mill a year.

He’s definitely not old Kemba but I don’t think he’s cooked yet
Doesn’t play defense. Will see how him and Thibs gets along
Friendly reminder that the Knicks led the league in defense last year despite not possessing many good defenders. At any given point the Knicks would maybe have one or two known good defenders on the floor.
Thibs coached teams play defense no matter who’s playing.
I mean, I know he's basically cooked, but I am giddy. I fucking love Kemba.
We don’t know that he’s cooked. He was coming off injury. This might be a steal.
Knee been a problem since early 2020. Not super optimistic that it will be improved at this point in his career. Hopefully they can manage his load until playoff time.
Celtics basically traded a boatload of draft picks

that's not true. His defenses in Minnesota were all terrible.
And I'd say Reggie/Burks/Noel/Mitch/Randle/RJ/Taj are all average to above average defenders.
last season and had to have his mins managed. The front office is going to have to really get in synch with Thibs when it comes to how much this guy plays this year.

Agree, but I think they’re going to miss Bullock on defense. He did a really good job against opposing teams top guard/wing every night.
But that ship has sailed...love the Kemba move. If unable to land a legit all star, Kemba seems a low cost/good upside gamble

So the games Kemba doesn't play, D-Rose will play...and vice-versa. Haha
Can basically have him and Rose split the PG duties (which should keep them both healthy by limiting minutes), and have solid depth behind them with Quickley, Burks, McBride in the event that one of them needs a night off with load management.
Even if they are signing him for the full $8 mil in remaining space we have, it is well worth the risk when considering the potential upside.
but we have a talented roster with depth at every position - and young talent to develop at every position. We've come a long way in a year and a half.
Managing his minutes and back to backs should be easy with our guard depth. I know he isnt all star kemba but we are a much better team now then we were last year. Walker/Fournier vs elf/Bullock is huge. I mean half the year i would have traded bullock for a bag of ball, couldnt even hit the open 3. Yes he got better, but fournier is a large upgrade.
Charlotte felt he had a degenerative condition in the knee - was that not true?
Quote:
On Wednesday afternoon, Boston Celtics All-Star point guard Kemba Walker spoke with the media about his knee for the first time since it was announced that the UConn product will miss the start of the 2020-21 campaign as he allows a stem cell injection and knee strengthening regimen do their work.
The New Yorker was his usual upbeat self, and while he was admittedly not especially well-versed in the technical side of his treatment situation or the problem behind it, the stem cell treatment was a focal point of the questions he fielded.
He got a stem cell treatment at the beginning of the year. Then really couldn't play consistently all season and had to skip games in the playoffs. He's hopeful that a good offseason will help it. Doesn't seem like something I'd bet on happening.
If the knee is good, he's the best PG the Knicks have had in a LONG time. Definitely worth the risk. Link - ( New Window )
who can make his own offense. So sure our D took a bit of a hit, but we took a starting backcourt that couldnt do anything on offense and added to shot creators. Thats huge.

Thanks for the background. Does sound like it could be a degenerative condition - but the risk is minimal in the signing.
I’m really happy for Kemba that he gets to go back to the northeast and play in his home area on the big stage. Hopefully he gets past the knee issues.
That game-winning shot against Pitt? Epic.

IM COMING HOME, IM COMING HOME, TELL THE WORLD IM COMING HOME

Thibs gets along quite well with Rose. They’re about on the same level defensively
or we're paying him with our cap room and the buyout with OKC is for less than amount.

Kemba at the Garden is special to me. Not a Knicks fan but I’m definitely going to watch Knick games to see him play.

Yes and the BET as a whole in 2011 he averaged 26 ppg.
Fournier/IQ
RJ/Burks
Randle/Obi
Mitch/Noel

All 8 to Walker per Fischer

yeah jist saw that
I'm asuming he gave OKC a discount on the buyout because of the new Knick money. But that's still a lot of dead cap money for two years.

Hopefully a more normal offseason and schedule next year will help Kemba.
Rod Strickland and Mark Jackson lol

I’d assume they’ll be an exhibit 3 clause wiping that money out if the knee gets hurt again

If Kemba is healthy, this is correct - excluding Linsanity of course.
Kemba won't need to be a 35+ MPG player anymore. With Rose in the mix he can play 28 minutes, Rose can play 20. Maybe even split more.
In EACH of his last five seasons, Kemba Walker has averaged more than 19 points, more than 4 assists and 3+ made 3-pointers per game.
In the 75-year history of the New York Knicks franchise, no PG has EVER averaged at least 19 points, 4 dimes and 3 treys in ANY single season.
