McDonough (no clue how reliable he is) claims Rose/Burks/Noel's 3rd years are options, not "partial guarantees" and that Walker's deal is 2 years. Again, not sure how reliable he is.
The Rose/Burks/Noel thing is somewhat in line with the Begley
. Begley said "not fully guaranteed" aka some guaranteed money.
"All of the contracts agreed to on Monday were not fully guaranteed in the final season, SNY has learned (immediately after the Burks deal was agreed upon, SNY reported that it would be fully guaranteed. We regret the error)."
That's substantially different than 2 years plus 3rd year options aka clear after 2 years if they choose to be.
A team option in year 3 means it's not fully guaranteed.
Might be semantics but "not fully guaranteed" seems specifically phrased that way vs. "The Knicks hold a team option". A team option isn't guaranteed at all.
"Randle joined the Knicks two years ago on a three-year, $63MM contract that carried just a $4MM guarantee for 2021/22. His game blossomed in New York, especially under new coach Tom Thibodeau, as he averaged 24.1 points, 10.2 rebounds and 6.0 assists per night while leading the team to the No. 4 seed in the East."
enough it's being reported Baynes had to be waived by tomorrow of his contract would be guaranteed.
The Toronto Raptors are exploring the trade market for center Aron Baynes, HoopsHype has learned. Baynes currently has a $7.35 million non-guaranteed million salary for the upcoming season, as noted on our Raptors salary page. That salary becomes fully guaranteed if he’s not waived by August 5, so keep an eye on Baynes being traded or waived by then.

Can confirm the team option part of this in the final years of the Burks, Noel, Rose, and Fournier deals, per league sources. My understanding is they are straight team options -- either declined or fully guaranteed upon being picked up.
came into the league at 26 and didn't play much early on. Still, he was a good big as recently as 2020. Not for the Knicks but somebody will pick him up... at that age... Lakers lol

He's the former GM of the Suns. He's an analyst on NBATV. I think he's legit.

Kemba Walker will sign a 2 year contract with the Knicks in the $8-9 million range, per league sources.
New York also has Team Options for the final seasons on the Alec Burks, Nerlens Noel and Derrick Rose contracts (in addition to Evan Fournier’s, as was previously reported)
writes up the DeRozan move (hates it) but then has to zing the Knicks in the process lol.. Twice!
"That is until the Bulls made a deal for DeMar DeRozan. This was the moment we’d been waiting for, and while we were staring expectantly at the Knicks and Kangz to entertain us, it instead was the Bulls who came out of left field and surprised us."
" The Knicks quickly burned through their cap space to lock in the six seed for the next three years."

that helps if you want to include them in a trade next year.
Based on all the critiques of the Knicks offseason from 24 hrs ago, sure seems like the recent news of Kemba and TOs for the last years means a lot of people should be praising what they did.
Also goes to show instant reactions age super poorly - not even the Kemba thing which is new news, but people analyzing the Noel/Rose/Burks/Fournier signings without even knowing the details of the contracts.
Had a solid offseason. This doesn't have to be an arms race for stars. We have a nice stable of young players and older vets. Develop the youth, keep cap flexibility, and acquire assets.
and now go into next offseason with several "expiring" deals on useful, if unspectacular, players, with the additional benefit of a team option on the back end. and a stash of picks.
We'd all love to add a true #1 star. but I really can't complain.
so we signed 3 productive players to 2/20 mill deals. Seems pretty damn good to me. Keep the contracts short and you can make max money if by chance some star actually does hit FA.
that these were 2+1 team options today goes to show how tight-lipped this FO is. Pretty cool.
Could be somewhat strategic. Agents/players get to float these semi-inflated numbers for 24-48 hours and grab the headlines. Then the real details slowly leak as footnotes.
I bet it buys some goodwill from the agencies dealing with the FO.

Fuck these assholes who only want to talk shit and don't provide any real context. Ok fine, 6th seed, never mind that if the KNicks don't spend any money they would likely field a team incapable of making the playoffs. I guess that's fine. Also, let's ignore that the Knicks can pretty make any trade they want and are free of most if not all deals after these next 2 years.
It's all bullshit. Contracts can be traded. But let's continue to act like the Knicks just over paid for dead weight that won't be moveable.
At some point many of these writers and fans decided it's better to be terrible than to be good. Give me a break.
Wow I feel a LOT better about the Knicks offseason
only move I don't like, and we'll see down the road was trading 19 for a future (heavily protected pick). I still maintain that was getting too cutesy and a player they picked at 19 could have helped this team (or been a valuable chip) just as a future pick might be (teams throw around picks pretty freely right now) but that's the only "huh?" or bone of contention I have.

And said Mavs want bullock sign and trade so they can use their MLE to sign someone else. How about this:
Reggie bullock to Mavs. Mavs make the 2023 pick unprotected.
I don’t see why that would matter. Luka and Cuban are always going to go all in so the chance they end up in the lottery in 2023 is slim to none. Unless Luka gets injured and misses the entire season, lol
Look at golden state Warriors they have been in the lottery the last 2 years including a top 3 pick two years ago. Lots can happen between now and 2023, also that could be the first year where high school kids could be drafted a late lottery pick could be huge.
I think that would a great move by Knicks if they unprotected oick
Didn't they just sign MJ Walker to a 2 way?
Quote:
will be back on a two way with Simms probably taking the other
The Clemson Simms, I assume?
No texas simms

I didn't even know you could partially guarantee contracts in the NBA

You can, in fact Julius Randle's 2021 wasn't fully guaranteed until the Knicks picked it up before the deadline to do so
"2021 $4 million guaranteed (@JeffSiegel), fully guaranteed on 07/31/2021"

it's not uncommon. Think of it like a buyout. I think Mills/Perry did it with Elf, Randle, Ellington, and Taj when they signed them all 2 years ago.

One year ago, OKC traded Dennis Schröder to LA for Danny Green
They flipped Green for Al Horford and a first round pick
They flipped Horford for Kemba and another first round pick
They flipped that pick for 2 future firsts
They turned Schröder into 3 future first round picks
Is it though? I mean the Grimes and Deuce McBride interest was well-reported by the media

Along with about 20 other players. Come on now
Reggie bullock to Mavs. Mavs make the 2023 pick unprotected.
I would have loved Garuba there.
Reggie bullock to Mavs. Mavs make the 2023 pick unprotected.
Can they do that? Has that ever been done before? Lifting the restrictions off of a traded pick?
