That kind of resources on a guy with this baggage that hasn't been resolved yet.
What if you give the farm, and his legal matters prevent him from playing?
He's also not going to be cheap, effectively eating up your cap in addition to those resources. I almost want them to do it so it blows up in their faces.
see this happening. Probably some shyster lawyers have figured out how to get Watson out of trouble. IIRC, there have been no criminal charges, just civil suits and that just entails money.
He is a top 5 QB in the league without a doubt. He is 25. This would be a disaster for us and be a significant hurdle in us taking the leap forward that people think we can make.
but 10 straight years is a tall task, let alone 10 straight good years. Too much bagged, gets hurt, and seems to be a pretty big character concern. Can’t expect our division to never have good competition so I couldn’t care less about him suiting up.
His stats are off the charts, especially last year and that was with a bad team. One of the more interesting questions for him is whether he could play in cold weather. He plays in a dome and two of his division opponents are in domes and the other two are in Jacksonville and Nashville (not tropical climates but not cold weather climates either) so he doesn’t have the experience of playing with the wind and cold of December and January games. I know he was 4-12 last year but the guy is really, really good.

Hasn’t he missed one game in the last three years?
But I'd love to see the Eagles trade every asset they have for him, then second the ink drys on the agreement Watson is formally charged the suspended indefinitely.
have rolled the dice before. They have a lot of age on the roster and need those draft picks. If they did I am sure they would have outs in any trade/contract if his case turns for the worse.
With a rookie HC you would think they avoid making a move like this.
here. They have to move him as he currently sits 4th on the depth chart and makes a ton of money (for being 4th on the depth chart). They also have no idea how the legal piece will work out or if the league will suspend him, which I believe they were hoping would happen already.
The Texans will need to basically accept conditional draft picks from teams because no acquiring team wants to commit tons of picks with a possible suspension or even arrest in the future.
It was all a guarantee that the Eagles were going all in on using those premium draft resources for a QB.
I mentally had subscribed to the idea it was either going to be a blockbuster trade for a vet, or for one of the top 2 QBs in this draft.
This kind of news shouldn't really scare or surprise anyone. It was always a pick your poison deal. I personally think there's a lot of risk with Watson...even more so than a young QB in the draft.
He's a great player, but we all know they were going to get their QB1 for 2022 somehow.
the Eagles with that expensive headcase than using those 3 first round picks which could very well turn into quality players on cost-controlled contracts.

They can also just sit still. If he wants out he has to sit which means they don’t pay for him and we know he doesn’t want to lose money because he showed up for camp.
Houston has leverage, it’s just a matter of how long they want to deal with the legal stuff. They can wait the whole thing out if they don’t mind the heat.
How many more women than twenty-freaking-two would it take for the Eagles to not want this guy? Has Howie's analytics department identified a baseline ratio of QBR-per-assault victim whereby a guy represents a worthwhile acquisition target?
I'm glad we don't have to deal with this on our side of the Delaware River.
Would really suck to have both Prescott and Watson in our

How many dogs were tortured and killed by Vick and his sick friends? I guess not enough to keep the eagles from signing him.
with the recent moves, Philly is tight against the cap and they need to have room to make in-season moves.
They'd have to clear a significantly bigger chunk to even entertain getting Watson.
If they got to Fletcher Cox or Brandon Graham or any veteran on the team we are close to getting Watson would you restructure, assuming the Eagles don't take away any guaranteed money, they are going to do it. I really doubt salary cap will get in the way of this one. Now, of course, does it make sense from a salary cap standpoint is another issue (and given his talent I think it would but given his legal issues and the amount of money he wield make I could see others disagreeing, especially since he is not someone who has already had a deep playoff run in him).
Does Watson even play this year? If he settles the multitude of lawsuits against him, I have to think the NFL suspends him. I guess if it's a year, Philly can live with it.
The cap is fluid so that shouldn't be a sticking point for Eagles.
As for some of the comments above, Watson may indeed not be able to play in 2021, but to suggest he will never play another NFL game ever feels like a stretch at this stage.

That's not true. With the latest restructurings they now have enough space to fit Watson's $10.5M base on this years cap (and still have $~5M left for in-season moves). Plus, they'd likely restructure his deal anyway.
the following years as well, most importantly 2022.
1. Still a lot, but it's *only* $35M in 2022. Houston would be on the hook for the $5.4M (prorated) bonus.
2. They wouldn't have to do anything about that until next offseason.
3. They love kicking the can down the road. Would likely just add a void year in 2026 and convert the $35M base to a bonus. That alone would reduce his 2022 cap # to ~$8M ($27M "savings" relative to the current $35M hit)
4. They'll likely extend and/or add some void years to Cox's deal and reduce his cap #s.

At least he went to jail
Watson is a good player but this would be a disaster for the Eagles
First, in this day and age could you imagine the activist groups marching on the club offices and protesting? Second, from what I read Hurts is pretty popular with the players. Third who knows what happens in the Watson legal case? Imagine doing this and then he gets suspended for a year or two.
Major risk, would take giving away a lot of capital in draft picks etc., and could cause team rifts.
After thinking about it I hope the Eagles go for it

almost no QB's do which is why even if this does happen, Watson isn't likely to break that mold.
The Giants didn't beat Wentz because they were a really bad team losing to almost everyone during that same time period. Its not like Wentz got in our way of a title.

Yeah, that must be it..:)
My thoughts exactly.
Didn’t we say that about RGIII, Wentz, etc?

$10.5M to make the lawsuits disappear?

But, they are saying with the cap space just opened, it would cost Philly around 10.5M

Every time I've heard this it hasn't worked out.

Here's another scenario.
Next year Washington acquires Aaron Rodgers.
The QB's in the division would be Prescott, Watson, Rodgers, and Jones(if he returns).
+1. I hope they get him, just please stop giving the Eagles FO a discount

The point is RGIII and Wentz were SUPPOSED to be around for a decade to terrorize us
