Knicks only have 4.9 million they can spend and they just added Kemba Walker to go with Derrick Rose. They aren't adding Schroeder. The starting lineup is (obviously Thibs is weird sometimes with Mitch but...
Good read for sure. The one point I don't really agree with is that the Heat are clearly a tier above the Knicks. They might better than the Knicks next year but last season the two teams were roughly equal. Lowry is 35 years old and for the first time started to decline a bit (albeit not much) last year.
Would anyone really be surprised though if a healthy Kemba is better next year than Lowry? Not to mention the Knicks added Fournier as well and have two rookies who showed promise and should in theory be better in year 2.
RE: RE: I like the Hawks better than Boston or the 76ers
so the 2nd team in the East as far as I'm concerned.
Still don't have anyone that can guard Trae but Fournier and Kemba could help a lot taking advantage of his defensive weaknesses.
Obi taking a step forward would be big IMO to matchup better against them. It already helps to have way better outside shooters at G but if you can play Obi / Randle 4 and 5 you could maybe make Capela sit...
You have the Hawks ahead of either the defending champs or the Nets? I couldn't go that far. But 3-4 range for sure.
Yeah Hawks 3 my bad lol. I was thinking the Bucks, selective memory on the the Nets as it pains me to watch them be as good as they are. But I could easily see the Hawks taking them in the playoffs if their young players all improve and the Nets have any health issues (which I wouldn't call unlikely)
think the Heat are better than the Knicks but an entire "tier"? That I disagree with. Like I said above I'd go
Nets/Bucks
Sixers/Hawks
and then 5 teams that are of roughly similar talent levels. I give the nod to Miami because we've seen that group raise their level of play (and Lowry and Tucker are battle-tested) but I wouldn't bet money they will finish with a record far better than the Knicks. For both teams losing Butler or Randle would be crippling.
yes it is a big if, but if Kemba is healthy is hr the best player to change teams this free agency?
I don't personally think it's realistic to believe Walker will suddenly be healthy. 2 teams felt otherwise (and he seemingly does too) so I'd say the best players to switch teams are an uninspiring group of Lowry (who yes, I'd take over Walker), Lonzo, Graham and DeRozan.
I'm down on the Sixers although not my favorite matchup for the Knicks
I actually like how the Knicks matchup against the Nets the best of the big teams.
I think the Sixers are in bad shape unless Simmons gets his shit sorted out. Which has to be at best a toss up as I see it. But if he does, they are as good as anyone
getting his FT% up to 78% was huge for me and the 3's came to a very respectable level.
I think he could really shine in Chicago (or could have in NY) but is honestly a better fit in Chicago.
But yeah I think it's Lowry for me as the biggest impact. If he gels well with that team I could see them winning the East (although i'd put them 4 or 5 in ranking) but yeah if they do compete it will because he had a major impact. You can never rule out the Heat, Riley is a real wizard. I can't believe we ever let him out of NY

I think that's a pretty grounded take. If we didn't have Rose in the fold I'd be nervous about relying on Kemba to take us to another level. Having both of them is a nice situation.

Thats completely fair and i agree i dont think we get a completely healthy walker but i think 85 to 90 percent is realistic

Yep Charlotte and Boston were counting on him to play 30+ minutes we won't be. We are probably looking for more in the 20-25 range. So while his knees are a huge question mark and can be a ticking time bomb, the time management should help. Also this off season will be the most rest he's had in 3 years.
IMO, it's Nets & Bucks at the top...then Heat, Sixers, Knicks, Hawks in some order...then Celts Bulls Raptors Pacers. I think Detroit might surprise this season.

Agree with this, I think hawks are now being overrated based on a nice postseason run. The Hawks were awesome the second half of the season but it’s not like they were significantly better record wise than the Heat and Knicks, it was a dead heat for the last 20 games or so. The Hawks are running it back with the same team while basically everyone else in the East playoff race improved their teams.
And a huge part of that nice post-season run by the Hawks
was arguably one of the biggest post-season choke jobs in the last five years by Philly. I think the Hawks deserved most of the credit they are been given in this thread but not all of it...

Check out the Hawks record under McMillan. Their playoff run was no fluke. They played like that for months. When healthy they didn't need to add anything. Keeping Collins was huge. They are a deep tough team. However they play the games for a reason. Anything can happen. The East will be a dog fight. I think Dame asking out can change everything as I think it will ignite a Knicks-Sixers bidding war.

Hawks were also missing Hunter and Reddish and Bog were really injured. I see the Hawks as legit and will be better. Really good team.
we are in great salary cap shape moving forward even after handing out all the deals. Most are 2 years except for fournier/Randle and there is no reason not to give them 3-4 year deals. Im not going to say we definitely could, but if a stud did his FA next year like Beal im pretty sure we could make it work.

He cannot play any of the back-to-back games (10-7 per season) as well as an above normal scheduled time off (5-7 games). Not too bad if no additional injuries. Just gotta be healthy playoff time.

that was last year, we dont knkw that to be the case this year, not saying it wont but we dont know he wont be able to play back to backs
doesnt want to go to Toronto or Porland because they are bad situations...wants to go to a california team

This guy has such a losers mentality its remarkable.
he should have learned to shoot or not let his team down at the biggest time of year, or not just resigned with PHI. I dont kill the duys who are near FA and kinda force there team to trade them to a small list of teams. But a guy like Simmons who signs a huge deal a season ago or whatever and now he wants to pick where he goes. If im Morey im trading wherever gives me the best offer. Like Lillard has at least given his all to POR for awhile so if they want to do right by him and try to send him where he wants (if he asked out) then thats fine, but SImmons? Gimme a break.
If Simmons is gonna be part of a Dame trade there's was always

The Hawks were 14-6 over the last 20 games, Miami was 13-7, the Knicks were 16-4. Miami and New York made pretty significant improvements during the offseason, Atlanta is running it back.
That has been a weird situation. Every Bulls sign and trade he's always rumored to be part of it but never is. You'd think a team would be interested but none have been. I have a feeling he signs his quali offer. If he does is he a UFA next year?

I wonder if there's an opportunity to sign and trade Markannen for some back of the roster guys (including Knox, Sims, Vildoza, a future 2nd rounder).
Knicks have a logjam roster right now and maybe it could clear up a couple of spots to let some of the 2nd round guys sign.
his team overseas is allowing him to play in 3 games, but he said if he plays well and the team wants him he has outs already set up to play this year with Knicks but will go play 1 mlre year if he needs to..
