Randle is a great cornerstone guy to have. Such a warrior and so easy to root for. He dragged that team as far as they got last year. You gotta love a guy that will absolutely give you every single iota of what he has every night. His buy in and leadership deserve as much credit as possible for how the Knicks changed how they played last year. Locked up through his prime.
Love the guy.
More good news from the Knicks. I'm looking forward to the coming
Having a good offseason. We are in a good position to make a trade too. Hope the rumor that the Rose and Noel contracts are team options for year 3 are true

Incorrect.
It's 2.7 for Taj and 10/y for 2 years with a team option for Burks. And no one, anywhere thinks 10 per year is at all overpriced for a quality shooter.

Very rarely do you see a guy take less than the absolute max he can get in any sport and especially in the NBA. Carmelo, for example, never left a single dollar on the table. Players talk about loving cities and fans all the time. Very few back it up by taking less money.
Are basically results of PTSD with this franchise. This new regime has really done a masterful job. This team is extremely deep from 1 to 15 right now. No, we are not a legit contender right now but I will take our chances on our second vs. another second unit any day. Our starters have really improved dramatically from last year. We have acquired more assets moving forward. We now have the depth to make a trade when that opportunity presents itself. We are also set up to make a legit run at Zion if we want. What is not to like about where this team is right now and the flexibility they have moving forward?

Agree. Randle has made it very easy to root for him. And for me, it's been hard to root for any Knick, for about 20+ years.
And three shots for a rookie to break out like IQ did last year, RJ did, or Mitch did. Grimes and McBride to develop. Maaaybe Sims.
We have three consecutive years of hitting on a rookie. No reason to think that stops now. And last year could have been a double dip in the rookie pool with how Obi showed up late in the season. He could break out this year easily and I don't think anyone would be surprised.
Thibs is coaching. Defense should be good.
Two flawless offseasons in a row from this front office.
50 million for Taj and Burks. Guys you can pick up one one year deals every season.
Also love NNs defense but he is another type of guy who is available. Knicks give 32 million?
Julius is a good deal and one that had to be done. But these other filler guys? Yikes
Cap hell was trading Ewing for two bad contracts, then flipping those contracts for even worse contracts. This is not cap hell. This is keeping a team together, with short deals (2+1), where all those deals are trade-able.
Cap space is only as useful as the free agents who want to come to you. The next two free agent classes are subpar. Three years from now, that's when you got guys like Zion, Booker and Towns, coming available... and that's when a lot of these guys will be coming off the books.

I see what you're saying, but Randle did take the absolute max he could get - right now. In order to get more money, he needed to wait until next summer which obviously comes with risk.
And Melo did take a little less money on his second Knick contract.
RE: Two flawless offseasons in a row from this front office.
Fournier is running point for France. Very interesting seeing as with the sure load management with Kemba and Rose he can fill in there when needed. He was pretty competent, had 23 though he did foul out in the last minute taking an awful charge at mid court. Great game. France won by 1 on a Gobert block in the final seconds. Us-France rematch in the final.

Knicks have 4 guys in their starting lineup who can handle the ball and run pick and roll and each attacks it differently..

there's also Quickley and Burks. The offense should be significantly better given the upgrades from Elf/Bullock to Kemba/Fournier. Thibs is not gonna do it, but we have the pieces to play a lot of interesting small ball lineups.
The one thing that's really thoughtful about this roster
is that the rookies are basically injury depth. We have some guys with injury questions and histories. But if we're all healthy, there's really no room in the rotation for the rookies. That said, that would be an ideal world that we face no injuries. So, it's just an interesting aspect of this team that the rookies are the injury depth.
And not that I'm rooting for injuries at all, but I'm exited to see what we have in McBride, Grimes, and Sims.
I think this makes sense. It is not a huge number in the NBA context for a guy coming off an all star appearance and second team all NBA. That said, regression is very possible and I think it's far from a guarantee Randle would have gotten a max after the year. So Knicks get cost certainty and a potential good contract, Randle gets a guaranteed payout and hedges against big regression or injury. I honestly think the most likely outcome is Randle's shooting numbers come down a little and this ends up being a reasonably fair number for both sides.
the ball should be out of his hands more than last year. His assist numbers will dip (which is not a big deal at all) but he should get more easy looks.

Thank you. PTSD is exactly what some fans are feeling and it's not applicable here anymore.
Randle does not need to play 40 min. I'd also like to see times when Obi and Randle can play the 4/5 together. It won't be often but they should find times to do it.

I agree but as of now Obi has three guys ahead of him on the depth chart at center. Obi's gotta come to camp and show he can hang defensinvely or else his role will be limited to Randle's caddy again.
That being said, Randle deserves the contract and kudos to him for getting this done now and not crippling the Knicks cap.
Love the guy.
