I think the Hawks are legit and would pick them above the Knicks so don't take this wrong way, but way does everyone talk up Reddish so much? He shot below 40% at Duke and both years with ATL (he was hurt this year but still a 20+ game sample size). Why do we think he's good?

I think it's as simple as huge HS prospects are given more leash/interest. Finished the year well (including the playoffs) giving some "hope" to him figuring it out.

Totally agree. Reddish has his moments and totally looks the part but I don't think he has the necessary mindset for sustainable success. He has a little bit of Deangelo Russell in him in that he has talent and wants to be a star, acts like a star...but has very little of the necessary intangibles to actually be a star.

John Hollinger wrote that Simms “might be the most underrated player in the draft.” He had great numbers at Clemson and has the combination of size and skill that most teams covet in a big man. Alas, he’s not a great athlete and that caused him to slide.
Simms will join the Knicks’ Summer League roster. But with New York having drafted three players — Quentin Grimes, Miles McBride and Jericho Sims — making the team will be an uphill climb for Simms.
I think Simms might be the most underrated player in the draft. He was a four-year starter in the ACC, but managed to stay entirely under the radar; when people talk about Clemson sports they aren’t discussing the basketball team.
Nonetheless, every time I watched ACC tape I kept thinking “this guy is pretty good.“ Simms was quietly solid at the G League elite camp as well, and I was surprised he didn’t get the call to the main combine.
Measuring 6-foot-7 1/2 in socks with a 7-foot ¼ wingspan, Simms has the size and frame to play power forward but offers a surprising amount of skill at that spot. He shot 40.0 percent on 3s as a senior and 82.5 percent from the line, and his development as a passer is worth noting as well (5.7 dimes per 100 in ACC games).
Simms isn’t an amazing freak or anything; he’s a bit thick and slow and often played at 5 for Clemson. It’s possible he’s just not athletic enough for the league. Nonetheless, he likely can fill the forward position with just enough skill, playmaking and size to get you through 15 minutes a night, and there’s a chance he could develop into more.

It's an incredible story. Either his agent is am absolute knucklehead or he himself is.
so the 2nd team in the East as far as I'm concerned.
Still don't have anyone that can guard Trae but Fournier and Kemba could help a lot taking advantage of his defensive weaknesses.
Obi taking a step forward would be big IMO to matchup better against them. It already helps to have way better outside shooters at G but if you can play Obi / Randle 4 and 5 you could maybe make Capela sit...
have to believe Schroder is at fault here. So little interest around the league and Magic Johnson taking shots at him. Has to be something going on there.
Didn't Schroder not want to go to LA to begin with?

You have the Hawks ahead of either the defending champs or the Nets? I couldn't go that far. But 3-4 range for sure.

what does Boston have to do with top 2 in the east?
Based on my BORD$ ratings, only six free agents remain who project to deliver more than $6 million in value for 2021-22: Pelicans restricted free agents Josh Hart, Bulls restricted free agent Lauri Markkanen, Lakers point guard Dennis Schröder, Nuggets power forward Paul Millsap, Clippers guard Reggie Jackson and Warriors forward Kelly Oubre.
At the moment, the club has room for a couple two-way players and another player on a standard NBA deal. But they have to agree to terms with McBride and Jericho Sims. Assuming they reach deals with both players, there will be room for another player on either a standard NBA deal or two-way contract.
The Knicks and Walker are expected to agree on a two-year deal worth roughly $8 million annually, a source confirmed.
This means Walker is expected to take up the rest of the Knicks’ cap space.
They will have to use exceptions to sign the 15th player. The Knicks have the $4.9 million room exception and can use veteran’s minimum exceptions.
“Joel Embiid has reached out to him several times since the end of the season,” NBA reporter Jason Dumas said during a recent radio appearance. “He hasn’t returned Joel Embiid’s calls. He hasn’t been in touch with many other of the players, and he’s essentially taken a step back and said, ‘Hey, all my communication is going to be through my agent.”
The Knicks will have the luxury of splitting PG time with three talented players:
Kemba, DRose, and IQ. Kemba can play 20, Rose 20 and IQ 8. Quickley is not a pure point but can definitely play the position at the NBA level.
And even if Thibs does not need to keep Drose and Kemba's minutes down that far, he could go 24 and 24 and get IQ his 15-20 at the two.
The depth on this team is very impressive. At the 2/3 we have RJ, IQ, Burks, Fournier -- someone is not going to be happy with minutes at a premium.

Don't they have a full 15 assuming the rookies sign? Just sorting into a 3 deep for ease of reference:
C - Mitch/Noel/Taj
PF - JR/Obi/Knox
SF - Fournier/Burks/Grimes
SG - RJ/IQ/Vildoza
PG - Kemba/Rose/Deuce
Guessing the two-ways are Pinson and Sims.
That's the thing. The 2nd round picks can have a 2 way deal and go to the G League. So a decision has to he made if it'll be more productive for them to practice with the team or play in games in the G League.
deals don't count against the 15 man. Guaranteed deal players can still be sent to the Gleague. There is even one roster spot allowed to house an NBA veteran with 5 or more NBA seasons (this is new and began this past season). So yes, they could sign Sims to a guaranteed deal and still have him appear in G-League games.
For those who subscribe to the Athletic, they just posted a really good write up of the Knicks free agency by Partnow, Vecenie, and Leroux. Upshot is you can quibble on the margins but everyone thinks they have a coherent plan and haven't mortgaged the future, which is a good place to be.
don't think Zach Harper is purposely hating on the Knicks (I don't think he updated any of his grades) but how do you have a published "grade the moves" piece and then not update when things like guaranteed years are released? I too didn't "love" Burks/Noel/Rose at 3 guaranteed each or Fournier at 4... but now we know the actual deals...
Knicks only have 4.9 million they can spend and they just added Kemba Walker to go with Derrick Rose. They aren't adding Schroeder. The starting lineup is (obviously Thibs is weird sometimes with Mitch but...
Good read for sure. The one point I don't really agree with is that the Heat are clearly a tier above the Knicks. They might better than the Knicks next year but last season the two teams were roughly equal. Lowry is 35 years old and for the first time started to decline a bit (albeit not much) last year.
Would anyone really be surprised though if a healthy Kemba is better next year than Lowry? Not to mention the Knicks added Fournier as well and have two rookies who showed promise and should in theory be better in year 2.

Yeah Hawks 3 my bad lol. I was thinking the Bucks, selective memory on the the Nets as it pains me to watch them be as good as they are. But I could easily see the Hawks taking them in the playoffs if their young players all improve and the Nets have any health issues (which I wouldn't call unlikely)
think the Heat are better than the Knicks but an entire "tier"? That I disagree with. Like I said above I'd go
Nets/Bucks
Sixers/Hawks
and then 5 teams that are of roughly similar talent levels. I give the nod to Miami because we've seen that group raise their level of play (and Lowry and Tucker are battle-tested) but I wouldn't bet money they will finish with a record far better than the Knicks. For both teams losing Butler or Randle would be crippling.
yes it is a big if, but if Kemba is healthy is hr the best player to change teams this free agency?
I don't personally think it's realistic to believe Walker will suddenly be healthy. 2 teams felt otherwise (and he seemingly does too) so I'd say the best players to switch teams are an uninspiring group of Lowry (who yes, I'd take over Walker), Lonzo, Graham and DeRozan.
I'm down on the Sixers although not my favorite matchup for the Knicks
I actually like how the Knicks matchup against the Nets the best of the big teams.
I think the Sixers are in bad shape unless Simmons gets his shit sorted out. Which has to be at best a toss up as I see it. But if he does, they are as good as anyone
getting his FT% up to 78% was huge for me and the 3's came to a very respectable level.
I think he could really shine in Chicago (or could have in NY) but is honestly a better fit in Chicago.
But yeah I think it's Lowry for me as the biggest impact. If he gels well with that team I could see them winning the East (although i'd put them 4 or 5 in ranking) but yeah if they do compete it will because he had a major impact. I think that's a pretty grounded take. If we didn't have Rose in the fold I'd be nervous about relying on Kemba to take us to another level. Having both of them is a nice situation.

Thats completely fair and i agree i dont think we get a completely healthy walker but i think 85 to 90 percent is realistic

Yep Charlotte and Boston were counting on him to play 30+ minutes we won't be. We are probably looking for more in the 20-25 range. So while his knees are a huge question mark and can be a ticking time bomb, the time management should help. Also this off season will be the most rest he's had in 3 years.
IMO, it's Nets & Bucks at the top...then Heat, Sixers, Knicks, Hawks in some order...then Celts Bulls Raptors Pacers. I think Detroit might surprise this season.

what does Boston have to do with top 2 in the east?
Nets/Bucks tier 1
Sixers/Hawks tier 2
Knicks/Heat/Pacers/Celtics/Bulls tier 3 with Miami ahead of the Knicks but the Knicks potentially as good as the rest.
