NFT: Jeopardy about to name new, permanent host

bwitz : 8/5/2021 11:06 am
I think it should’ve been Lavar Burton but, oh well. Probably that guest appearance in Cameo’s “Word Up” video that did him in.

Quote:
Jeopardy!” executive producer Mike Richards is in advanced negotiations with Sony Pictures Television to become permanent host of the venerable quiz show, taking the reins of the syndicated powerhouse that was fronted by Alex Trebek for 36 years.

You think ti should have been LeVar Burton? Why?
Jints in Carolina : 8/5/2021 11:09 am : link
I am sorry but he was god awful.
No other reason than I like the guy, really
bwitz : 8/5/2021 11:11 am : link
That’s why I’d probably make a terrible TV exec.
I thought Mike Richards
johnnyb : 8/5/2021 11:11 am : link
was the best of the bunch, at least the best of the ones I watched. He was not scheduled to be a guest host- he 'filled in' for Ken Jennings early on. Jennings had a prior commitment to "The Chase" and was unable to host the shows that Richards ending up doing.
yeah what did him in
UConn4523 : 8/5/2021 11:11 am : link
was that he wasn't very good. Pretty boring and unenthusiastic. That video isn't new either, so your reference to that as his downfall doesn't make any sense.

Well good self awareness in saying that.
I enjoyed Mike Richards
Jints in Carolina : 8/5/2021 11:13 am : link
Mayim Bialik, and Buzzy Cohen.

This Mike Richards corporate stooge is about as generic and milk toast as they could possibly get. Of course they choose their own corporate executive. I feel there were other options out there that were more interesting, had more engaging personalities.

This is a totally uninspiring choice but a completely predictable one.

I was joking about that. Obviously the video isn’t new; the song came out 35 years ago.

i prefer the focus on the actual quiz than the personality of the host. I do like the current anonymous guy doing it this week.

Burton was god awful! He actually was the only time to mess up multiple times.

Richards was very good. Faber who is on now is the best of the bunch. Buzzy Cohen and Bialik were very good as well.

Agree completely.
Richards would be meh at best for me

Hopefully Jeopardy is in negotiations with other finalists as well.

I thought Jennings did a great job directing the game. Whatever media coach he hired did a good job.

I don't know if he would want the job, but I honestly loved Bill Whitaker as guest host. He was intelligent, warm and thoughtful. he also paced the game well. Billy W not getting enough love from Jeopardy fans!

Yes, Faber is BY FAR the best one.
I don't really care as nobody would be Alex

and am not a huge fan of Ken Jennings, but it seems that most of the hardcore fans wants him. But because there is some backlash to him, the executive producer is probably somebody they believe can be agreeable to both sides.
Levar Burton

was not good, not saying he cant improve, but he wasnt good

David Faber is doing really well this week but he's not leaving his CNBC gig

Yea, I thought jennings pretty much
NoPeanutz : 8/5/2021 12:09 pm : link
ruined his chances with that "no fat chicks" tweet, or something?
Thought Richards
redwhiteandbigblue : 8/5/2021 12:13 pm : link
was by far the best. Cohen runner up.
I thought Mayim Bialik was pretty solid

Agree. Thought I also read last night that with Richards' experience with the production process that this is really a done-deal. and he's the guy.

Now there's a person who knows how to pick a TV show! You know exactly what you're doing!
I think the best host is actually the guy this week

Faber.

Richards is the safe choice but he's your standard run of the mill phony looking TV guy.

TBF isn't that what Trebek was when they hired him? He only became a legend over time.
