NFT: Messi leaving Barcelona

DanMetroMan : 8/5/2021 2:10 pm

Despite FC Barcelona and Lionel Messi having reached an agreement and the clear intention of both parties to sign a new contract today, this cannot happen because of financial and structural obstacles (Spanish Liga regulations).

As a result of this situation, Messi shall not be staying on at FC Barcelona. Both parties deeply regret that the wishes of the player and the club will ultimately not be fulfilled.

FC Barcelona wholeheartedly expresses its gratitude to the player for his contribution to the aggrandisement of the club and wishes him all the very best for the future in his personal and professional life.

Haha, when futbol is life, anything is possible!
This has been an open secret for a while,
Go Terps : 8/5/2021 2:21 pm : link
and everyone seemed to be in denial. Barcelona's finances are a complete disaster. Hope Griezmann, Dembele, Coutinho, Arthur, De Jong, etc. were worth it.

Hopefully Messi goes back to Newell's or retires or something. I'd hate to see him go to one of the disgusting Super League clubs or PSG.
I think

Yes, football is life! But remember, Football is also death.
Some rumors he goes to Man City and then NYCFC

3-4 years down the road.
City rumors have been going on for awhile...
Italianju : 8/5/2021 2:28 pm : link
but they just paid up for Graelish and have been pushing hard for Kane. Kane makes more sense then Messi at this point. Id like to see Messi go to the Premier league only because thats the league i spend the most time watching, lol.
Red Bull’s should just pay him whatever he wants

PSG wouldn't surprise me
moespree : 8/5/2021 2:57 pm : link
And if he does go to PSG there is absolutely no excuses for Pochettino not win his first major trophy as a manager. If he can't win one with that squad he ought to pack it up and head home. And I mean it too, no hyperbole, he should quit coaching if can't win with that squad.
That FCB press release
giantBCP : 8/5/2021 3:13 pm : link
reads like posturing to get LaLiga to ease up on their salary cap limits. They know that LaLiga needs Messi and wouldn’t cut off their nose to spite their face.
He's coming home

Agreed, HAS to be one of the giants... PSG, Juventus (Doubtful but that would be awesome), City, Bayern, Real Madrid (also doubtful but never know), etc. etc.
Is there a timetable as to when he has to decide?

Dammit. Sign him right now!

Blue92 : 8/5/2021 5:22 pm : link
I would guess Miami will be his preferred location.

Until he actually signs with another club, I don't think the door is completely closed on a return to Barcelona. I'll believe it when I see it.
Wow

It's either City or PSG

No other team can match the oil money.

Barca signing Griezmann now has to be one of the dumber signings of all time.

Griezmann played well last season, and the work rate is there. I think his performance will improve without Messi.

The Neymar money signings: Coutinho and Dembele have been disasters.

He’ll play for Miami if he goes MLS. Already purchased a home in Surfside.

I'd like to see him come to England, because at least the Premiership is reasonably competitive. Mind you at his age, he might fancy not having to run about so much, so in that case Seria A beckons.
As a liverpool fan, him going to City would be pretty terrible
Heisenberg : 8/6/2021 8:34 am : link
As a CT native, him going to NYCFC after that would be awesome.

Messi going to Paris for his medicals today. Assuming PSG doesn't sell Mbappe they're probably the runaway Champions League favorite

Or he’ll roam around midfield and stifle their team and their players will regress like we’ve seen with Barcelona.
no way they sell mbappe.....

Selling a 22 mbappe for a 34 year old messi would be a monumentally stupid move.

Very, very good player (also from Rosario, btw). Not saying Messi isn’t better but at this stage in LM’s career, it isn’t like night and day.
