it when he complained of fatigue and a dead arm that season leading up to his stroke. Tragic mistake by the team and its medical staff.
In his prime, virtually unhittable.

One of the best sliders I've seen. Had some really tough breaks. 71 is too young. RIP.
absolutely loved watching him pitch when I was a kid

I was a big fan of him and Nolan Ryan.
wow, too bad

Keith Hernandez tweeted earlier

about how JRR was one of toughest pitchers he faced, and had the best slider he faced. And Keith wasn’t just blowing smoke for a guy who just passed, he has said that many times unprompted over the past few years.

Yep. On top of that, they identified that he had a clot a few weeks prior to the stroke and said it was not dangerous.

Really sad both then and now. RIP big guy.
RIP to one of the best I've seen in my lifetime

I'm not going to lie; I didn't know he was still alive. It was a real shame what happened to him, especially knowing it's possible the stroke may have been avoided.

I think I would say he was the most feared pitcher in my lifetime. Imagine facing the Astros for a 3 game set back then knowing the first 2 games were Richard and Ryan.

What's really nuts is I got to looking at both of their stats. I hadn't realized or I forgot that Ryan led the league in Ks 4 times after 40!
RIP

He could really bring it as they say, before his stroke happened. I think he made a slight comeback afterwards.

.

No one will ever catch Ryan in career strikeouts, with well
over 5K for his career.

Unfortunately, I also thought he has passed long ago. I thought the stroke killed him.

No comeback. His career ended in 1980.
Can you imagine Nolan Ryan being the better of the 2 options
