why was he not at the game or seen at fan fest? That’s the weirdest part to me
Toney was at fan fest. There is video of him throwing footballs to the fans. Do you think if he had Covid or was experiencing symptoms he would have not only been around the team, but playing catch with the fans?
think he could be unvaccinated, he got sick. Coaching staff may have been ok to let him roll with it and after he got sick not so much. Maybe a behind the scenes negotiation going on about what to do which is why there is all the cloak and dagger
Huh???
What is so crazy about that?
He got COVID
He went to college in a state with some of the lower vaccination rates
We aren’t really getting much information on the injury keeping him out just a standoffish statement from Judge
We know that not everyone is vaccinated on the team and while for other teams that might be more acceptable we know New Yorkers are one of the more vax heavy places. Many even moving towards proof to he inside
When of the beat writers said this week he thought there was something weird going on with Toney
I know some people don’t like facts. Perhaps to add to your “huh” you’d like to suggest why we are getting such little information on his injury, it’s highly atypical for that to happen in the NFL where we get such frequent injury updates that often go into great detail
I think your trying to uncover a mystery that does not exist.
A. If he's unvaccinated doesn't he get tested everyday before entering the facility???
B. If he got COVID right now, like you say, do you really think the Giants would have let him throw footballs back and forth to fans at Fanfest???
That's a dreadful take. How are Toney and Galloway "damaged goods"?
Jesus.
Toney may not be damaged goods, but he’s certainly been looking like a guy all throughout who’s looking like he’s headed for a redshirt year. Aggravated something? Doing what? He’s barely participated in anything, for one thing after another.
was on the sidelines the whole Fanfest working with a trainer. He seemed fine didn't notice any limp. That was Wednesday not sure that lines up with late week aggravation.
I think people at this point or laying Judge's notorious secrecy at
the feet of KT. I think it's pretty clear at this point he has an injury that he doesn't want to talk about at all. Expect the same about Saquon right up until kickoff week 1.

So did Odell, until he destroyed the league his rookie year.
Some press comments about Toney following the game...
Toney has not practiced much this spring or summer for a wide range of circumstances. The disclosure of an injury that Judge declined to offer specifics explains why the wide receiver didn't participate in practice much this past week. "He's been dealing with it for a little bit. Something that was aggravated in practice toward the tail end of this week," Judge said. "So he was unable to play."
Toney was not active for the game, and so stayed inside during warm ups, FanSided has learned.
Prior to Saturday night’s contest, Toney wasn’t even out on the field for pre-game warmups. Even injured players such as linebackers Lorenzo Carter and Elerson Smith went through drills prior to the game.
Toney also wasn't seen on the sideline. Other players who did not participate in the game, such as star running back Saquon Barkley, veteran wide receiver Sterling Shepard and offensive lineman Nate Solder, were present on the sideline.
This continues the inauspicious start to Toney's career with the Giants. He has now missed time from the spring to summer because of a cleat problem, his contract, a family emergency, COVID-19 and now an undisclosed injury.

So is this your expectation? That he’ll do what Odell did? If we’re checking history, there’s far more examples of young players whose first years start out like this and are derailed.

It's not my expectation, but to say he's heading for a redshirt year is asinine considering the injury can't be too serious or they would have divulged and he's working with trainers on the sideline. Redshirt implies that he isn't playing this year. It's a bombastic word for this situation.
I used Odell as a comp because he too had nagging injuries all camp and then lit it up regardless.
RE: RE: The lack of reporting on the injury is just part of it
Toney was at fan fest. There is video of him throwing footballs to the fans. Do you think if he had Covid or was experiencing symptoms he would have not only been around the team, but playing catch with the fans?
If his recent bout with Covid is impacting his play, it’s not a matter of being contagious, it could be a matter of respiratory, pulmonary, or fatigue issues as an after effect.
For the record I believe Judge, that it’s an injury not lingering effects from Covid. That’s great news, because as we’ve seen with other players, it can really sink a season.
Now, he's a 1st round pick and I'm an FP&A Analyst, but I can't imagine joining a new team, at a new level, and missing so much time right away. It's gotta be a horrible feeling. Or not? Wonder what's really going on with the guy.

I am saying the fact that he had COVID and is potentially unvaccinated could be causing trouble when he plays in an area that is a city that is one of the most pro-vax and willing to enforce pro-vax laws in the country.
It’s definitely weird. See Googs article above. Anyone got a good explanation for why other injured players where on the sideline last night and he wasn’t?
Him being unvaccinated wouldn’t be a cut and dry thing where everyone in the building was in agreement on how to handle it.
The way people are with the Giants sometimes is they need to see a ridiculous amount of proof to even entertain something as possible.
Sometimes all you get in life are some dots to connect and there are connected dots here that lack good explanations
Lighten up a little. Giants weren't playing many players they know are on the team. We have a long season ahead, maybe its important that they play in regular season games, and maybe it's not critical that you guys know everything going on with the team. Since we are fans we really are not part of the decision making process in the short term. This gets worse every year.
See Googs article above. Anyone got a good explanation for why other injured players where on the sideline last night and he wasn’t?
Read the clips again. The only injured player on the sideline during the game was Barkley and Judge explained that. Solder and Shepard are not injured.
Other injured players mentioned (Carter, Smith) participated in pre-game drills. Evidently they are at a point in their recovery where they could do so. Not all injured players were drilling.

Ok well why have we seen so little of Toney then? That’s what I keep asking
He's injured. He was limited all week and even missed practice one day
He's too injured to do drills and the injured players aren't on the sideline. Judge said he wants to get him back out there next week, so I imagine this thread is going to look awfully foolish in two weeks time. You guys are looking way too much into this. He's had an unusual offseason, but if there was some sort of legal situation going on he'd be away and I don't get the COVID speculation at all. He's intermingling with people.
Is it a shock that Judge is mum on injuries when he doesn't have to be forthright at all considering he's a disciple of Belichick? You guys are looking waaaaay too much into this.
I have seen with the Giants over the years. My memory does not allow me to give details but it seems that the very early impressions (good or bad) of Giants first round draft choices tend to be confirmed in the long term. This contradicts my general wait and see attitude for most things.

I mean we don't have to go into ancient history for a first round pick that pretty much missed all of a camp that lit it up when he hit the field. Guy is infamous around these parts.

I said tend, not always. I go back to Joe Don Looney.
Eat shit. I only posted it as a speculation and stated I had no idea.
But do think for one minute that if I was correct Judge would blab it out for the media? If Judge isn't happy with Toney I am sure it will be kept between him, Toney and a select few.
I am not saying that this is the case but only that it is a possibility.
It’s been training camp and one preseason game and people are getting the vapors over Toney?
For all of BBI who shit on Jones regularly, here’s how his rookie preseason went (see link). NFL.com called it historic. He went 4-0, threw for 29-34 (85% completion rate), 416 yards, 2 TDs, 0 INTs, and averaged a 132.8 passer rating. How highly do you think the preseason correlates to NFL success now? Is Jones a great quarterback in your opinion because of his amazing preseason? If you’re going to write off Toney because of the preseason before the kid ever plays an NFL game, then at least be consistent and say Jones is the second coming of Montana because of the preseason.
This is a business. No NFL team provides information just because fans think they have a right to know or in order to alleviate some fans handwringing. They operate in the best interests of their organization and they don’t always tell you the what’s and why’s. People have this weird feeling that they need to know every detail and if the team doesn’t do so, there must be something wrong. Link - ( New Window )

well, Zeke, the early impression I got was that Odell was seriously injured. Now he is 28 years old and many are pointing to a long term diminishment of his abilities already during what should be his prime. I think the first impression was absolutely valid.
I tend to agree with Al, although you always need to qualify it. Of course, there are exceptions.

He was listed on the Covid protocol. Who knows why but the length of time suggests he had it. However, after a certain point he was not infectious and could be around other people. But that doesn’t mean that he was not suffering from the effects of Covid. As judge says, it effects people differently. So, he could still be suffering from the after-effects of Covid. It’s all speculation because they haven’t told us.
Three Boston players, all young, all athletes in premium shape. All had Covid.
Eduardo Rodriguez - had myocarditis and was out for the year
Jason Tatum - out several weeks past being infected. Had breathing issues and had to use an inhaler for the rest of the season (never had used one before)
Evan Fournier -suffered massive headaches for several weeks after being infected and had vision difficulties for nearly a month. Comp, wined he couldn’t see on the court.
Covid is not always you get sick and you’re done.

I don’t think any of those concerns were about him not coming to p,au. They were more about off the field things.

Correct. I recall reading that he is also a skilled rapper and there was a thought that rapping may be more important to him than football. Who knows....but at this point, I think we all need to hear at least one positive practice report about him getting out there and turning heads. Havent come close to that yet.
The rest aren’t really speculative, New York is pretty far along on vaccination requirements for things like indoor eating. Florida is one of the less vaccinated states with some of the highest incidence of COVID.
I’m linking an article that says he “tested positive for COVID” so yeah I’m sticking with what I said. COVID has a much bigger problem with false negatives than false positives.
Kadarius Toney back with Giants after testing positive for COVID-19 - ( New Window )
I Would say 542k from number 10 on list to 24 is marginal at best for these size states. The narrative Florida is anti Vax. Just is not accurate.
24. Florida
Number of people fully vaccinated: 10,813,286
Percentage of population fully vaccinated: 50.35
10. New York
Number of people fully vaccinated: 11,355,896
Percentage of population fully vaccinated: 58.37
If he identifies more as a Floridian than anything else,
It was said above that Toney was nowhere to be seen at FanFest when he was not only working on the sidelines, but identified as such in several reports.
Clinging to falsehoods while saying other fans require much more proof to connect dots is pretty laughable. Some people actually want dots to exist and be based in reality.

Bill - thanks for this. Too many still don't j understand COVID and it's possible effects. I still hear si many talking about it like it's a cold. Even when there is nothing more than child-like symptoms, there is the possibility of a lot of things going on in your body. I can attest to that first hand.
“Toney did not warm up or appear on the sidelines during the game“
-SBnation
“Giants fans hoping to get their first in-person look at first-round pick Kadarius Toney had to be disappointed that the rookie receiver out of Florida was held out of the open practice for maintenance reasons“
-NY Post
He’s your first round pick, surely you’d like the fans to at least see him. I’ve seen players crutch around the sidelines before. One of the beat writers said there was something weird going on too, maybe someone else remembers which one
Not from this policy statement I just found on nfl.com via Google:
“The policy requires that teams provide credible, accurate and specific information about injured players to the league office, their opponents, local and national media, and the league’s broadcast partners each week during the regular season and postseason.”
It’s likely different because these games mean nothing.
I’m not even trying to say the Giants or Judge are the ones making this call to deflect from this. I don’t think the NFL wants any stories about this, the NFL could be saying for everyone’s good let’s not talk about this in the open. Let’s not forget about the Ray Rice thing, we can’t pretend that the NFL is above withholding information to manage a story
All of this COVID stuff is speculation. Toney did have some kind of ankle thing or something if I remember correctly earlier in camp. He probably tweaked it again and while he may have been able to play if it was a regular season game they held him out.
They don’t have to disclose injuries in preseason so why bother in this case?
Toney was at fan fest. There is video of him throwing footballs to the fans. Do you think if he had Covid or was experiencing symptoms he would have not only been around the team, but playing catch with the fans?
How impressed were you with Moore last night?
Regardless, as I thought, he has not been held out because of COVID. He had an undisclosed injury, and he just re-aggravated it.
Unless you think Judge is lying.
Eric - You called this in your game preview!
Nice Job.
Yes Moore looked great last not, he definitely didn’t miss the game with injury like Toney.

This continues the inauspicious start to Toney's career with the Giants. He has now missed time from the spring to summer because of a cleat problem, his contract, a family emergency, COVID-19 and now an undisclosed injury.
Sy mentioned a few times - pre and post draft - that he had concerns about Toney the person. He didn't get into specifics, but maybe some of that is manifesting itself already. Because since the draft, it's always something with this guy.
It's very early, but right the KT pick is not inspiring.

I’m linking an article that says he “tested positive for COVID” so yeah I’m sticking with what I said. COVID has a much bigger problem with false negatives than false positives.
Kadarius Toney back with Giants after testing positive for COVID-19 - ( New Window )
I Would say 542k from number 10 on list to 24 is marginal at best for these size states. The narrative Florida is anti Vax. Just is not accurate.
24. Florida
Number of people fully vaccinated: 10,813,286
Percentage of population fully vaccinated: 50.35
10. New York
Number of people fully vaccinated: 11,355,896
Percentage of population fully vaccinated: 58.37
It was said above that Toney was nowhere to be seen at FanFest when he was not only working on the sidelines, but identified as such in several reports.
Clinging to falsehoods while saying other fans require much more proof to connect dots is pretty laughable. Some people actually want dots to exist and be based in reality.

think he could be unvaccinated, he got sick.

What are other examples of that?
