Lorenzo's interview with the press is good too because he follows up on Graham's comments. (Again, video is better than the transcript... the emotion comes through better).
A: Lorenzo – again, I'm not going to get emotional or anything, but like I'm very proud of his progress, to be honest with you. Very proud of his progress. I think he looks like a different football player on the field. Now, we'll see how it comes through –
Q: Why does it get to you so much?
A: Because you see a guy who – the stress of the, OK, potential this, potential that, all the time. Having a good season last year. I think he had, what, three sacks? Not that sacks are the end all be all, but like he was doing well and then he gets hurt. He works his way through. He's in the building all the time. We see him every day and then for him to come out on that field and he looks like a different football player to me than anything I saw in his previous three years. I'm just happy for him. I'm happy for him. Again, as a teacher, that's what we do. I get it's a business, but just like a teacher getting somebody to understand math or calculus the first time or algebra or go back to just basic arithmetic. You're happy for that. Like, I'm very happy for these guys. They're all still young dudes, very happy for him. X (Oshane Ximines), same thing, he's improving. I would say the last few weeks, really this last week, he started to take some steps in terms of the improvement. I'm just happy for these guys. That's what I mean. That’s why I do this. That's why I do this. I don't know where else I would get fulfillment, like I do with this coaching thing, to be able to watch these young men fulfill a childhood dream. Just again, I might be being a little dramatic right now, but that's how I am.
He's about to, I think he's going to absolutely prove the potential this year. He is definitely bigger, he looked explosive in all the practice videos and against the Pats. I think he takes off this year.
RE: I think this is Graham's last season as a coordinator
I absolutely love Graham as a coordinator, but Carter was not lighting up the field when he got hurt last year.
I’m not going to pretend to know what his assignments are, and whether he was executing on things that don’t show on the box score. If he’s a great complimentary player that allows other guys to shine, that’s awesome.
But this is a guy who in 4+ games had 1 sack, 7 pressures, 1 tipped pass, and 2 tackles for loss.
He would literally need to be a completely different player to be a big time contributor.
Shit he doesn’t even compare well to Kiwi, or Carlton Bailey yet. 17 games; playing through injury will become more important. Banks, was a one arm in a cast, tackling machine.
as seeing how someone has put the work in (after a very tough injury) and benefitted from his coaching and how makes it all worth it to him as being a "teacher". Like a C student who goes to extra help all the time and starts getting A's.
It also seems he expects very big things for him this year.
lets win the division and win a playoff game before we start worrying about losing staff.
What an absolutely horrific take. If you’re not capable of seeing how good a coach Graham is because he hasn’t led this team to 3 Super Bowls yet, that’s your problem. It’s incredibly easy to see that he’s a very good coach if you were paying attention. Not to mention he had some interest from teams this past season to interview for HC jobs, so I think it’s safe to say he’s very well thought of in NFL circles. You don’t have to take fans opinions on it
Right now it's just words. Fir 3 years we've heard big expectations for him, proposing him up. Frankly, to date, even at his best, I have found him to be mediocre. Then there's the injuries.
He's one of the guys I would really rather hear nothing about. I want to see it, not read it. I'm tired of the props, the relying on his pass rush, etc. I want sacks and pressures. Period.
As an aside, what happened to the 3-4 in the NFL? It used to be all about the LBs. And LBs were complete players. OLB weren't relegated to just Edge, for example. I'd. Much rather have a balanced LB, than what we call an edge.
really focus on him. If I am wrong so be it, I am no expert at analyzing LB play but to me he looks like an above average player. Forget the stupid sack numbers. There's more to LB than sack totals and only the most amazing players get big sack numbers every year.
Carter looked too good to ignore last year. He was setting the edge when needed and getting after the QB. Tackling players at the LOS, etc.

And if you extrapolate those numbers over 16 you have a solid stats. Plus sacks typically can come in bunches but the pressures are what you look for. 28 pressures is just fine. I don't even like doing this, but since you're disparaging the numbers....
lets win the division and win a playoff game before we start worrying about losing staff.
Right!
Why do we think everyone is coveting our coaches having only won 6 games? Are there no other DCs out there who are doing just as well or better? How come KC never loses a OC or DC?

the leader of QB pressures had 24 pressures (barrett and winovich) NFL pressure (hurries) leaders in 2020 - ( New Window )
You’re mistaken. The league leader in pressures was T.J. Watt with 61.
Hurries and pressures are not the same measure (pressures are hurries + sacks + knockdowns). Cater had 3 hurries last year.
A 4 sack, 28 pressure season is just OK output from a pass rusher.
Markus Golden had a 10 sack, 44 pressure season in 2019 for reference.

My bad thanks. I still think he can flourish, but noted!

It’s decent, but it doesn’t extrapolate out to a big season.
That’s basically the same pace he had in 2019 — 4.5 sacks, 23 pressures, 6 TFLs.
I think the story is awesome. I’m rooting hard for the dude. Anyone who can fight their way back from an Achilles tear and be out there so quickly is a bad ass.
But let’s not pretend he was having a big season last year before he got hurt. He wasn’t.
Watch the video...better than the transcript.
Hope it is true. The Giants need it.
Carter seems like a good dude and hard worker. His limitations seem to be his size and instincts as an edge setter in the run game.
You must be fun at Parties! Watch the video like The Godfather says, or just don’t. But be an ass to anyone else.

Graham said more than that. He said he's a completely different player.
Also, Carter can set the edge. And he's 6'5'', 255 pounds. That's bigger than LT.

This is an observation JonC has made since Carter is a rookie, and I’ve paid attention to recently.
Carter’s issue isn’t being to small, it’s that he’s lanky and long, and not incredibly nimble when he’s moving.
I’ll find the time stamp, there’s a great example of this from the Pats game. He looks like a baby deer trying to repositioning himself to recover.
It looks like he’s about to put it all together. That would be a huge boost

It time for him to actually do something.
It time for him to actually do something.
We need to do everything possible to prevent that. Because we are going to be a top ten D in PPG allowed.

Lots of guys are bigger than LT. That doesn't make them great players
He's never going to be L.T., but he has the talent to be a Carl Banks look-alike (and that ain't bad).
If he can learn how to be the enforcer on his edge (the strong side), he can help the Giants win a lot of games ...
