It’s football and people can get hurt but you can’t coach scared, you coach to win and that includes having your best players, the difference makers, play.
The sport is what it is. You either go out and compete or you go home and be safe. These guys want to play. Injuries can happen at any point. Stop being scared of them and understand they are part of the game.
But, personally, I'd rather see Toney returning punts and kicks. That has nothing to do with Peppers being a starter. But, if they don't want to trust a rookie, then I think Peppers is the best PR they've had in a few years.
If you watch peppers on his returns, he fair catches the ball
quite a bit. He only returns it when he is wide open and knows he’s going to get a huge chunk of yardage. If anyone is anywhere near him, he will make the fair catch. This is why I don’t want him returning punts because he isn’t trying to make the most of the kick/punt return opportunities
starters that returned kicks and punts. Peppers is pretty good with the ball in his hands and I will bet dollars to doughnuts he loves it.
Dominic Hixon was a starting WR and was probably the last scary K/O returner the Giants had.
Problem is all Giants fans remember Sehorn yet they puke when thinking about Desean Jackson. Was Rod Woodson a punt returner?
Toney would probably pretty good at either K/O or Punt returner.
if he devoted time and effort to it. He is a playmaker. We dont have many of them that we can trust.
If he is the best man for the job - the nlet him do it. It would be nice to get a TD or two or great field position by Special teams. God knows the offense will need all the help it can get.
Being afraid of using your best threats as a returner because of something that happened 23 years ago is insanity. We used Odell to return punts without issue. Hell, I'd argue we should have been using Saquon on kick returns as he was by far the biggest threat we had on the roster.
Tyreek Hill is returning kicks or punts I think.....
Lots of second guessing going on from reporters this week about Michigan having Ronnie Bell return punts after he tore his ACL. Which is silly. You put your best players in the position to win games.
In Michigan's case, if they didn't have Charles Woodson returning punts, they probably don't beat Ohio State on their way to a championship in 1997. I know that's ancient history, but so is the bellyaching about Sehorn.

Cosign. I'd have the best player on the team returning kicks on game defining plays at the end of the game if he was your best chance of creating a desperately needed play at that point in the game. There shouldn't be much of a thought at using a talented role playing starter as your main guy if he gives you that type of updside there.
