NFT: 20 years ago today, Band of Brothers premiered

Perhaps one of the greatest if not the greatest depiction of war and military put on screen, Band of Brothers premiered 20 years ago today.

If you've never seen it, go watch it. If you've seen it already, it may be a time to watch it again.

If you want similar level of authenticity (but a very different atmospherics), I highly recommend Generation Kill. While it will never be Band of Brothers, it's probably the best regarding modern day war and military.
I just started re-watching Band of Brothers last week

It's one of the best series ever made. I didn't notice it years ago but there are some current big name actors who played small roles in the series including James McAvoy, Tom Hardy, Michael Fassbender, Simon Pegg, Andrew Scott, etc.

Wet Private marching with full pack up the hill in the dark, "Lt Sobel hates us, sir."

Dick Winters, "Lt Sobel does not hate Easy Company Pvt Randleman. He just hates you."

Love Band of Brothers

I watch some of the select episodes often, Crossroads, D-Day, Points, Turning Point, Patrol...

I didn't either, but several morning shows have been talking to the actors from Band of Brothers yesterday and today talking about the close proximity of the days.
I own the book and the DVD box set

Just a terrific series. Incredible it has been 20 years already.

Time to start watching again.
Remember watching the debut

and then forgetting about it due to 9/11 and being consumed with the news. Incredible series, watched it last Winter and it still felt relevant.
It was so well done

Hard to believe it's 20 years old. I'm glad they made it while some of the men portrayed were still living. I believe that Ed Shames, who only briefly appears in the series, is the only surviving member of Easy Company today.
First couple episodes were outstanding. A particular

scene that is my favorite was after the Normandy invasion, they attacked a German fixed artillery position in a few different trenches.

And then it was noted in the credits at the end of the episode how textbook their assault was that it is still taught and used as an example by the military.

I wish that all the high school

and college kids were required to watch this series to learn a little bit about what these brave soldiers did for this country.
Soldiers carry out brave actions every day all over the world

but I find the D-Day invasion astonishing. It's amazing anyone lived to tell about it.

Operation overlord aka the Battle of Normandy is hard to fathom. I can't imagine the fear of running into machine gun fire as soon as the door dropped. Saving Private Ryan did an amazing job capturing the horror of the battle.
