Well, I didn't see a thread for The Captain, so here you go:
I watched his speech in real time, and the one thing I was struck by was how many times he used the word "family",
in that speech. He kept his speech on the concise side (unlike a Donald Fehr), Jeter was never the type to draw things out or get long-winded.
He got in a little dig at the one sportswriter who didn't vote for him in his playful manner, not with any malice.
He was always good at that.
I just want to say I appreciated his speech, and his time here as a great ballplayer. I wish him well in his new endeavors, and with his young family.

Well, it was suppose to be in July I believe, but that would have been done in more of a 'Zoom' type of situation.
In this way, they had fans on the grass and the HOFamers out there in person. That is my understanding.

on a Wednesday afternoon at 1:30? I saw alerts that Jeter/Walker waere inducted, and was confused. I looked it up, and sure enough they did it at that time.

Yes, they can have fans on the grass and HOFers in person if they do it on the weekend as well. And more fans can watch. It always used to be on a weekend. I used to go quite frequently. My issue isn't why now in September vs. July, but why Wednesday September 8 vs. the weekend.

Do it mid week, mid day on Rosh Hashanah of all days was insanely tone deaf.
Much better ways of doing that. You could have the field taped off, required tickets, and had limited attendance. Just seems a poor decision by MLB imo. They should be promoting the game, and viewership had to be low at such a bizarre time.
