A thread for the optimists out there. If you don’t believe in this squad, start a bad vibes thread and post over there. I’d like to have a discussion about why the giants WILL perform well this year.
1. 5-3 in the second half of last year. They built a lot of momentum that will carry forward to this year.
2. Very good coaching. What hindered them last year was the insertion of mew schemes with limited time for implementation due to COVID. Look for that to change this year.
3. Big additions to the overall talent. There were very few losses and a lot of big, new weapons brought to this team in the offseason. That allows for an opening of the playbook both offensively and defensively.
4. Explosiveness. Offensively, it’s not just the talent of SB and KD. It’s their ability to take any play all the way. Defensively, the increased man-to-man you’ll see due to the addition of Adoree Jackson will allow the unit to be more aggressive and force more turnovers (resulting in big plays).
5. 6-10 last year. There is no way you can make a plausible argument that the giants aren’t better at every positional group than they were last year except maybe the OL. And even with the OL, it’s just the loss of Zeitler. I think that a strong argument can be made that the progress of the younger players will more than offset that loss. Otherwise, I don’t see a unit that has taken a major step backwards.
6. Jones. I can’t predict if he’ll have a great year. But I think it’s fair to predict that he will AT LEAST be better than last year. I don’t want to beat a dead horse with this topic, but suffice it to say that with faster, more explosive players, the team should get in the end zone a lot more frequently, and the number of possessions per game will greatly increase (instead of the plodding ball control offense we’ve seen) resulting in more points as well.
7. Easier schedule than last year. I think this is something we all can agree upon. Easier schedule=more wins.
Don’t let the preseason fool you. That was just an open tryout for fringe players. Now it’s time to suit up and let the big boys have at it. It’s time to think positively and regain the confidence that former winning giants teams had entering their respective seasons. What say you, my fellow optimists?
I know that is pushing it, but I see no good reason not to be hopeful. The only possible downside is disappointment.
I'm adult, I can handle that.
The benefit of it is, until they prove differently, I get to be hopeful vs miserable.
If they prove me right.
Joy, joy, joy and eternal joys.
The Giants have added (in my opinion at the cost of other units) 3 high talent options in the pass game.
The Giants haven’t had better talent at the skill positions since 2012. That’s something to be excited about.
And the big one: OL gelling and proving to be better as a unit than the sum of its parts
But if most of those happen (acknowledging it's a big IF) - I see no reason this isn't a competitive playoff team
The other points are either really a subset of #3 or not really compelling.
But they will be better...
Our road games are (in order):
WFT, New Orleans, Dallas, Chiefs, Tampa, Miami, Chargers, Philly, Chicago.
Right now, it's very hard to find more than 3-4 wins in there...
Our offense will take a big leap forward with Jones in his 3rd year, a more stable and improving OL, Barkley, and Golladay. The defense was good enough to win last year, and I don't expect a drop off.
Plus the Cowboys/Eagles/WTF are all crap. I can't believe how some are overrating the Boys and WTF. I expect us to go 4-2 in the division again.

Really? We can beat any team in our division plus New Orleans, Chicago, Miami and the Chargers. Plus you could get lucky against the other two.
BUT even 4-5 on the road PLUS 5-3 at home is 9-8 - and while I hope for better than 9-8 it wouldn’t be a disaster either.
I think this is where my head is at. And although not the most positive take, it is a realistic one. This team added talent has coaching but needs time to gel. Its going to be another rough start, and all the talking heads will say "same old giants", "Gettlemans Days are numbered", "they'll be picking a QB in the 1st round", and if they go 0-fer the first quarter of the season, I'll be joining them. BUT I do believe they have everything it takes to have a winning season, make the playoffs and surprise a few people. Fingers crossed cause we need a few breaks!

and we finish the season red hot heading into the playoffs and we are the team nobody wants to face.

It's not so much that the team needs time to gel, but the schedule is much, much more favorable in the back half. Broncos have a lot of new faces too, and while Fitz is a new face in WFT, he generally gives you great play until he fizzls out.

New Orleans and the Fins have very good defenses. They were tied for 5th in the league last year in PPG allowed. Both defenses look basically the same from last year.
Chicago always has a tough defense at home. But I agree they are beatable.
You feel good about playing Herbert and that offense in LA late in the year? I have a feeling they are going to be very, very good...

Man you really are a douchebag. Holy shit.

Well, I might be.
But based on this benign comment?? Really??
No need to apologize. I'm just going to assume you have a comprehension problem and you are working on it.

My point is that those teams aren’t unbeatable in regards to this Giants team. Seattle didn't look like a win last year at any point. So it’s not out of the question that the Giants can win 4 road games and have a winning season.
I’m not looking at the schedule and counting wins and losses before the games are played. I am hoping for a playoff team, division winner, conference championship and a Super Bowls win. Until the games are played I am not counting any of those possibilities out. I am excited for real football to begin and at 0-0 and until the giants are e playoffs I will remain hopeful.

Well I'm about half of the way wrong. The half I'm wrong is that I thought you meant 3 or 4 wins overall. So apologies there. The half I was right is that this is a positive vibes thread made specifically for positive posts. Literally every other thread exists to be negative in and yet you had to be negative.

You know it's possible to not read the comments and not comment? Something tells me if this was a negativity thread you'd have no problem. Just ignore it if you're so against this thread.

The OP said we had an easy schedule. So I challenged the road part of it. And think I have a legitimate point.

So this thread is essentially a circle jerk. Enjoy

ok, I'll ignore it
This is what I’ve been saying all along. The player additions are nice but I’m more excited about the second year of Judge, than any player addition.
Remember when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor?
Forget it, he’s rolling.
Getts signed up Kevin Durant last night.
It's a positive vibe thread, remember?
My bad. I did it on the other thread too. KD just seems much more natural with Kevin Durant and all.

I expect progress from Jones, a much more efficient offense with Barkley returning and more talent at the skill positions and I believe this will be a top 10 D. I don't think 10 wins is out of the question, but they CANNOT start 0-2 again, and the two teams they play over the next 6 days present with strengths that directly target the Giants' most significant weakness. I'm going to hold out hope that Thomas continues his progression, as he was much better the last half of last year, and that Solder can at least be average to keep these elite pass rushing teams from stifling the offense completely.
