But if the team doesn't keep trending in the right direction, I expect any improvement in Jones's stats to be followed by a "Yeah, but" and with two 1st round picks, the offseason will be rife with questions as to whether he's really The Guy.
The irony is, if his stats don't improve but the team still trends upwards, his job will likely be more secure than if the reverse happens.
with with at least 140 tackles each year for the last three years
that's some stat!
Best Giants Linebacker since Pierce... he was a great find at a time when Giants linebackers were putrid. This year, I think linebackers are a strength.
for some of us Giants fans. He tweeted the other day along the lines that he's going to call for a welfare visit to Bobby Skinner with how pessimistic he's been as of late.
Ranaan has been mega-critical over these years, and maybe we should've listened to him all along. I chose not to and resented his lack of optimism.
odd take from the guy who's usually overly pragmatic.
Daniel Jones is the QB, and he's going to have every opportunity this year to prove himself. Some people think he will, other people think he won't, but we'll all find out soon enough.
That said, some of us are going to require him to actually do it first. I've never cared what Jordan Ranaan thought about anything and I'm not going to start today.

DJs job is safe. I don’t get this sentiment that it’s not. The QB class looks poor, even if they did want to move on.
And for all of us that target really should be a BFD. It's a 17 game season.
We need to score at least 24PPG to be in the thick of a playoff race. So Jones need to lead the charge. Not Barkley. Not KG. Not EE. Not Rudolph. So step up and be a franchise QB...
Ya'll complain about Terps but then beg him to enter
He can be critical but he is usually fair and supports his positions. He will also admit when he is wrong. Pat Leonard on the other hand is a toxic shit stirrer who is constantly trying to provoke players into creating a story for him.
30 passing TD's would have ranked 6th in 2016, 4th in 2017, 10th in 2018, 4th in 2019, and 11th last year. Pretty hardcore fail calling that barely median.
He said his 'bold prediction' is that he throws 30, definitely takes the over on the 24, but said he thinks he throws somewhere around 27 if he had to predict.

And maybe he will. None of us know. Not the fans hating on him. Not the fans counting on him. Not Gettleman, not Judge, not his teammates. He is Schrodinger's cat. Anyone saying otherwise is fooling themselves, even if they are ultimately proven right, good or bad. My biggest hope is that he has a healthy year, because injuries could complicate his evaluation.
Believing in Jones and being wrong if he tanks isn't as bad for a beat writers cred as being down on him and being wrong when he goes to the pro bowl. The fans, who are typically already pretty harsh on him, would never let him live that down.
But the issues he has (processing speed, pocket awareness) are of the variety that are sometimes overcome with repetitions and sometimes persist no matter what. There's no telling which of the two is Jones. His intelligence, physical gifts, and work ethic give him a good shot, but guarantee nothing. My best guess is that his floor is Ryan Tannehill/Derek Carr and his ceiling is Ben Roethlisberger/Matt Stafford.
and I do thing it means something. I think it’s fair to say that, if anything, he’s not hear to kiss the ring of ‘Jints Central’, and so this raises an eyebrow for me.
And yes, it is what I would want to hear, so there’s very likely confirmation bias affecting that hope and read, but I hope he’s right, of course.

I also want to see improved pocket presence and movement. Forget TDs or YPA, if Jones displays the pocket movement he showed in 2020, he simply can’t start in the league.
Or maybe he will be good and so will the line...players do improve with better coaching and experience.

and if he throws 31 TDs it will only be because all the defenses we played had a lot of injuries

Weird dynamic.
Bravo. Excellent burn.
Part of me wants to say "could he fetch any draft pick at all?" But I know he would return something.
That said, we're definitely still upside down on the pick at the moment.

Over the past five years that averages right around 12th.
C'mon. That isn't really the poignant question you apparently think it is.
Weird dynamic.
It's amazing
Cue Go Terps thinking about posters thinking about Go Terps.
If he has 8 Ints then that's a pretty good season.
He has 14 and it's not.
Raanan also says he thinks Jones will be in the 'Eli caliber's of QBs but not top ten. I think he's really underrating Eli.

My thoughts are able to get these mouthbreathers to mention me unsolicited on threads? I had no idea.
No wait....surprised it is that HIGH with you.

27 TDs in a 17 game season is roughly 25 in a 16 game season. That’s right in the middle of the pack.

Raanan hated Coughlin and Eli. I think that was pretty much understood.

what a mess of a post. corrected in the quote.
Good one Terps. 😄
You win this round
Guess you missed that he had an ankle injury.

I don't pay that much attention to the beat writers, so that's sort of news to me. Thanks.
