I’d say the league is doing just fine.

Overnights: NBC's coverage of the Cowboys-Bucs game hit a five-year high in the overnights, source says. The 15.9 overnight is up 16% from last year. This number does not include out-of-home viewing, so the final national number is almost certain to see an even bigger increase.
Like'em or like we do- hate'em

The Cowboys (and Brady) bring eyes to the tube.
I think it's obvious

the proclamations of the NFL's decline have been greatly exaggerated - or conjured up altogether.
Last year was a shit show

so I'd be curious how that compares to pre-covid years.

Oops, just saw it said 5 year high. NFL was never going anywhere despite the decreased viewership we've seen in past years.
Well it was Cowboys and Tom Brady, people are going to tune

into that.
It didn't hurt at all that the game

was exciting from the opening kickoff to the last FG.

There just as many people to tune in because they dislike Cowboys or Tom Brady as there people interested in positive aspects.
Cowboys and Brady

and Live fans!

And the NFL had a great first game.
That should keep the excitement going.
I plan on watching

more football this year than the past 5, mostly with the sound very low.
So the NFL is still King

Was that ever in doubt... seriously?!

I like the way you think, but......man, there are a LOT of freaking Cowboys fans out there!! Ive lived all over this country and everywhere ive been...they are there. Hell, of the, say , 5 people I call my "best friends", 3 of the 5 are Cowboy fans, and all from the northeast!!:). I dont think ive ever actually met more than one or two that were actually FROM Texas. Ill never understand it, ive hated that team pretty much since I knew what a football was, but some obviously view them differently.
The two main factors here are the cowboys

Verse a smaller market in the chiefs and the obvious different political heat index in society. Rightly or wrongly there is a correlation to NFL ratings and their presence (unwillingly) in the national landscape for reasons outside of football.

Not sure we can really judge considering this was probably the best NFL dream matchup of the season and it happened to be on opening night, which is rare. Normally, NFL doesn't have a blockbuster game on opening night, they save those for later in the season. Previous opening nights had:

Texans-Chiefs
Packers-Bears (historic ribalry but not some star-studded hyped matchup)
Falcons-Eagles
Chiefs (Alex Smith) vs. Pats
Carolina vs. Broncos (after Peyton retired)

I feel the NFL wasted too good of a good matchup in this spot.
