NFT: September 11, 2001....The Man in the Red Bandana

JCin332 : 9/11/2021 9:39 am
I post this link every Sept 11...

Luckily all my family members ended up safe but I lost friends and former co-workers that day...

But this story continues to be an inspiration to me and is especially poignant since I became a father...

Crazy it's been 20 years...

Never Forget...

my family used to run the red bandana run at BC every year, and may again, we ran into schedule issues with kids sports.

One of my kids (while in 4th or 5th grade) interviewed Welles' mom for her school newspaper. Made me proud to read her article.

When I took my kids to the 9-11 memorial they teared up as they found Welles' name.

thanks for sharing. so inspirational.

I mentioned it yesterday for people to look at. Gary has it archived, I think, doesn't he. Anyone new here after 9/11 should read it. I still remember that thread like it was yesterday. I remember logging on, for days, just to see what people shared. Somehow, it helped.
OMG

JC, thank you for that link

What an amazing young man.

The following is a link I play every year on this day. It also is extremely powerful in that it is the last known phonecalls from people on those planes and in the towers. Very sad but also a tribute to those people in their last moments:

Prior to today I've never seen this but I am glad that I did. What an inspiring young man to give his life to save others.

With his neice who's named after him. I've sat at many baseball games with his sister and mom. Great people. His Mom was talking one day about going down to Guantanamo for trials of some of the terrorists. It really is such an incredible story.
Thanks for sharing.

We seem to do a thread every year and people post their stories. I've never shared mine but one day I will. I hate this fucking day so much. Too much pain and sadness.

That's a great picture. Is that a young Sean Payton on the right and I believe Jason Garrett on the left.
I've watched just about everything and read the Commision Reports....

Which is both fascinating and terrifying at the same time. I've never forgotten the phone call from my co-workers at 0630ish becuase they knew I had family in NJ.

This single event changed our lives more than any natural disaster could ever have in most lifetimes.

It's tough to watch some of videos still....but it truly showed how resilient American patriotism can be at times.

...to lose his life on 9/11. Hall of Famer Eamon McEneaney.

Quote:
Eamon McEneaney, hero, father, poet, and athlete, was killed in the September 11 terrorist attack on the World Trade Center. He was one of the world's greatest lacrosse players and an All-Ivy football wide receiver for the Big Red. In lacrosse, he was first team All-America from 1975 thru 1977. He led Cornell to undefeated seasons and national championships in 1976 and 1977, and represented the United States in the 1978 World Lacrosse Championship. Eamon is in the Cornell Athletic Hall of Fame and the National Lacrosse Hall of Fame, and was named to the NCAA's Silver Anniversary Lacrosse Team.
Quote:
McEneaney's wife, Bonnie, knew that Eamon, a senior vice president at Cantor Fitzgerald, had escaped from his office on the 105th floor after the first bombing of the World Trade Center in 1993, but she did not know he had been a hero. "He saved the lives of 63 people," Ms. McEneaney said from their home in New Canaan, Connecticut. "They were hysterical, and he pulled them together and wet paper towels for them to put over their faces and made them form a human chain and took them down the stairs. All he ever told me was that he came down the stairs with some friends."

A Tribute to Brother Eamon McEneaney

That night there was a long line of family members holding up pictures of their missing loved ones (with contact information) ... and they were all crying.

The lady who was interviewing them had tears coming down her cheeks.

Thinking about it 20 years later - "my allergies" are kicking in ....
