The Philadelphia Eagles are signing left tackle Jordan Mailata to a four-year, $64 million extension, Mailata's agents confirmed to ESPN's Adam Schefter on Saturday.
The deal, which runs through the 2025 season, could be worth up to $80 million and includes $40.85 million guaranteed, agents Jeff Nalley and Graylan Crain told ESPN.
He was selected by the Eagles in the seventh round (233rd overall) of the 2018 draft.
Mailata did not play in a game during his first two seasons as he was a former rugby player but a great athlete. The Eagles patience appears to have paid off unfortunately. I remember him being hyped up at the time and I was hoping that the Giants would aggressively pursue him as an UDFA but the Eagles decided to gamble with a 7th round pick.
This is a bad sign for 2019 1st round pick Andrew Dillard who lost the starting competition to Mailata. According to reports the competition wasn't close.

Yeah, so hard to guage now, imo
Good question, all I read was the Mailata ran away with the job. I believe Dillard was injured during camp and missed time which has been an issue with him.

in a limited preseason? Absurd, imv..

That I can buy. But if injuries held him back, then aren’t we to assume he’d regain his mojo, unless somehow it’s career-threatening?

IIRC, when healthy Dillard hasn't lived up to his draft position at least thus far. Dillard only started 4 games during his first two seasons as he missed all of last season with a torn biceps. Then he missed most of training camp with a knee injury.

Judging from your post, it would appear that he hasn’t had much of a body of work to assess him one waynor the other, imv

He sounds like the Eagles version of Sam Beal.

Good one
I assume they feel that he is about to break out in a big way. He is a massive OT but hopefully for us this turns out to be a poor decision. I was very surprised that they gave him that much money. Personally I would have waited to see how he performs this season before I considered paying him.

and the Eagles are giving him 64 (40 guaranteed). How many would give that to Thomas that money today. I know I wouldn’t.

Have to, could be a bargain, could be disastrous. It would only just put him barely in the top 10. Actually he only really needs to be just above average for it to make sense. The remarket sets every year. At first I thought this was moronic, but if they like the guy that much....
It’ll be 3-4 years before 40M guaranteed is mid range dollars at the position. That’s a big time deal for a guy with 10 career starts.
