Playbook- you be Garrett and Shurmur.

How would you attack?
First, I’ll get BW and Terps response out of the way.
“Start a different QB than Jones”.

If I was Pat Shurmur, I would go 4 wide, spread the Giant defense out, force extra CBs or Safeties cover their stable of receivers. A. Jacks playing will help us.

If I’m Garrett, I run between the tackles, play action. But mostly, pressure the flats with Barkley and Toney. Chubb will either not play or be limited and Von Miller is a forward player. Force an ILB or safety to cover those guys. Plan for explosive plays, not 12 play drives.
Your thoughts?
I like the Garrett approach better.

Playing 4 wides with the pass blocking problems of the OL and the backs and with Jones’ processing speed and penchant for turnovers… is lunacy.

They need to call playaction and then call playaction some more.

I'd also go with two tight-end sets to limit Von Miller and whoever's rushing from the opposite spot.
i would go two TE's

and pound the ball with booker penny and albright.

put barkely in passing downs to see how he's progressed picking up the blitz.
and by two TE

i mean Jumbo because we probably don't have 2 TE's

The Giants are deep at DB, but their edge guys have not shown they can diagnose well so I would be doing a lot of read option and similar type plays that force Carter/Ximines to have to make a decision.
The best thing that could happen to the Giants offense is that Engram

I wish I was Princeton smart. I'm not, but from my seat in front of the TV I would use Barkley and Toney mostly as decoys and see what openings there are because they're on the field. Especially Barkley. I wouldn't hand the ball even once to Barkley on first down but I'd play action off him several times. The only time I'd hand the ball to Barkley today is in situations like 2nd and 5 or less where if he gets stuffed it doesn't end a drive.

I am Shurmur or Garrett, I would choose to attack with aggression. This offense has some weapons to do that. It is time to take the fight to the defense, especially with the Giants defense which should be able to withstand some turnovers that naturally happen from being aggressive.

Would that be Vernon Albright in “My Little Margie”? I loved that show.

there have to be more ideas out there. ALL thoughts are welcomed on this thread.

Defensive coach, I tell my guys to make Barkley show that he is worth paying attention to post injury, I.E. don't be aggressive playing the run until it is necessary.
Sorry

I misunderstood the post.

If I am Shurmur -- I keep it simple with Bridgewater, use multiple formations and player personnel, but dink and dunk, while using the run game with PA.
Get Batkley or Toney....
nyblue56 : 9/12/2021 10:09 am : link
In space, screens, wheel route. Take the shots down field. Dink and dunk is not going to help us win. In the run game I would actually run stretch plays, with counters, and QB designed runs
If I am Garrett
Lines of Scrimmage : 9/12/2021 10:40 am : link
I want to get the OL going and run the ball. The line has players who are better at this at this point. Keep Jones and the OL out of 2nd/3rd and long. This is where the Giants are most exposed at QB and OL. PA is those 2nd and short with clear outs getting Toney underneath. Screens.

Shurmur I think will follow a similar strategy.

The key match up is what OL allows the offense to function in the above manner. I actually think the Giants can win this matchup. Chubb may be out/hurt and Miller is older. They are also a little light in the pants in the interior.
Why the hell would we spread the Broncos out when their secondary
Zeke's Alibi : 9/12/2021 10:43 am : link
is loaded. They want to beat the Broncos is on the ground, it's a good thing Rudolph and Kaden are playing, I expect a lot of two-tight end sets.

If I'm Shurmur I test Adoree early to see how good that ankle really is. Honestly, feeling more confident because I think they have a tougher test defensively matchup wise than we do depending on Adorees health, at least we can lean on the run game.
I expect DEN to try to run the ball and NYG should to try uptempo
Eric on Li : 9/12/2021 10:45 am : link
if I were Shurmur, I'd want to get a slot defender on the field and run against the NYG lighter front. They have 2 good RBs who can break tackles and I'd probably be hoping to get them 25 carries between them if nothing else than to test the fitness of whoever my week 1 opponent is and make them rotate players. On the road with a good OL and good defense against a mistake prone team, that seems like the obvious play.

In the passing game probably start by testing the NYG slot CB to then hopefully open things up for Sutton/Fant/Jeudy/Patrick. Bridgewater is pretty good at spreading the ball around conservatively so I think that would be my gameplan - establish a running game and then probe to see where the D is softest in coverage.

On the Giants side, I think I'd be a little more aggressive and look to spread things out and go up tempo with a more quick passing game built around getting Shepard involved a lot early. I'd mix in runs off the passing game. I would want to keep things as simple for the OL as possible and make the defense play as many snaps as possible to wear them down that way. I'd try to get Barkley into space as opposed to planning to pound him too much between the tackles knowing his workload is limited.

Get the Broncos d on their heels a little bit, keep their safeties from sitting back over the top as much, and then take shots in 1 on 1's deep to whoever has the best matchups between Slayton and Golladay.

the best part of the Broncos secondary is their safeties. Simmons and Jackson are both really good. need to force them into covering as much ground as possible. can't make the game easy for them to just sit on throws.

Fuller and Darby are both solid CBs but you don't need to plan to avoid either one entirely. Surtain is a rookie but I'd imagine he will get snaps. Callahan in the slot is probably their toughest matchup but Shepard is probably our toughest WR to cover too. If Shepard can win vs. Callahan it's going to put their lesser DB's in 1 on 1's, probably pull their safeties down a little bit, and give the NYG big play opportunities down the field.

we obviously havent seen bridgewater in DEN yet but I'd imagine there's a very big difference in his performance in a game when he's playing from ahead vs. playing from behind. this is a game where getting ahead early is key.
