Step away from the ledge. Yes, it was a really bad performance by everyone. But stop proclaiming that the season is over. Can you give it at least half a season before you want everyone fired and released? Man, fans are so fickle and reactionary to everything. The season isn’t lost yet.
It appears

The team has been dogshit for years
Greg from LI : 9/12/2021 7:41 pm : link
And then they come out and lay a big steaming turd like this at home, against a mediocre team, and people aren't supposed to get angry? The hell with that.
You are definitely rght but here's the thing

Losing is supposed to feel awful and disgusting and you're supposed to hate it and be miserable.

And hope is supposed to be brought about by reason

I would notice that too many people here do not seem pissed off when we lose
Step away

From the ledge? We have been the worst team in the NFL for years and you want us to not shit on our team for playing like shit?
It's not that they lost,
Shady Lurker : 9/12/2021 7:44 pm : link
it's how they lost. Bad personnel, poor coaching, and poor execution. That doesn't inspire any confidence that they have any chance of turning it around.
Just would like to see some change.
lecky : 9/12/2021 7:44 pm : link
Every year the same thing over and over. Nobody makes a play on 3rd down. The O Line can't open a hole. Jones still staring at one receiver. Jones fumbles. Coaching is embarrassing. I do think Golladay and Shepherd are a good one two though.

I’m not happy we lost. I’ll be the first to admit that the team played really lousy. But come on. Everything here is so over the top. They can bounce back. It’s not the end of the world. And the Washington game is in a few days. They can turn an 0-1 start around. I understand the criticism. That comes with a bad loss. But I can’t understand the “pull the plug” threads that are all over the board right now.
they looked worse than even the pessimists on this board thought
japanhead : 9/12/2021 7:45 pm : link
they would.

worse than week 1 v the steelers last season.

are we hoping for them to "find a rhythm" after going 1-6 again? should we expect them to look overmatched and terrible out of the gate every season?
I hear you on the "it's only 1 game"
nygfaninorlando : 9/12/2021 7:46 pm : link
but this has been going on for years now. I believe the Giants have the worst record in the NFL since 2017. They are a combined 18-46 during that time. Actually 18-47 with today's beauty.

Hopefully we show some progress in the next couple games to give everyone some hope, but based on today it's the same old issues. Can't cover an opposing TE, can't get off the field on 3rd down, can't pressure the QB, Offensive line still stinks, Jones continues making boneheaded plays and turning the ball over. Garrett terrible play calling, etc, etc, etc.
Can we give it half a season? C'mon man.
j_rud : 9/12/2021 7:46 pm : link
We've given it years and nothing has changed.

And getting pissed off to the level that some here are is supposed to accomplish what??? Not up to us to resolve the issues. Just a waste of time getting that bent out of shape.

After all the rah rah rah before, and leading up to the game it’s hilarious to see all the comments now. All the I trust Joe Judge, and even a Joe Judge is an outstanding coach, and now the same people are treating him like Joe Shit The Ragman. All the this team is winning the division talk, and how all the signings were going to make the team better, and now look at everyone. All the hoping, dreaming, and praying, and now like a nightmare after just one game. Hilarious.

Sure, I understand being angry. The part I cannot accept is when people are surprised by the performance. Nothing has changed ON THE FIELD to provide any confidence that this team is any different than the past few years.
Is the season 100% over?
BestFeature : 9/12/2021 8:21 pm : link
No. But this team looked every bit as bad as every other team of the last decade whose season might as well have been over in the first game. Sure there have been times (or time in 2007) in the past when the team sucked the first game and turned it around, but that's the exception and not the norm.
not me, I always said this team will go 3-14 and I never drank

Unless they dramatically improve, they aren't winning a single one of those games.

It really seems like some get enjoyment out of seeing how negative they can be. Today sucked, but really the reaction is ridiculous and it is irrational. Every player sucks/we are the worst team/we are going 0-17. There is no being objective or logical. I can't believe this is how most of BBI react to other aspects in the life.

and I also start out as optimistic, probably to a fault. But, I can't really argue with anyone who thinks the season is over. Sure, it's an exaggeration. But, to even think that is not so crazy. I'm not saying I agree, but I'm not calling anyone out for it.

This is not an isolated game. It may be game 1 this year. But, this team is fresh off a 6 win season, which was actually an improvement over the prior couple of seasons. Let that sink in for a moment. It is hard to remember the last time the Giants won one fo their first couple of games of any season. Through 2 GMs, 3 coaches, and new personnel, this team has continued to put a very similar product on the field. So, when Game 1 yields the same results of most games (both outcome and how we got there) as the majority of games over several seasons, then yes, a lot of fans are going to expect more of the same. Right now, there was nothing that occurred today to lead anyone to believe next week or any week will yield better results.

Amazing people see this garbage and say “why is everyone overreacting?” Unless you’re a blood relative of John Mara that makes no sense

Matt M. : 9/12/2021 9:28 pm : link
I am not among those who views last year as narrowly missing the playoffs. While technically true and while the Eagles are assholes, even if they did make the playoffs, it really wouldn't be fair to view them as a real playoff team. They played in one of the historically worst divisions last year. So winning that division with 6 wins is not really much of an accomplishment.

This year, even with the loss, Dallas looked a lot better than anyone was expecting and they are not 100% healthy. They scare me. Washington will be a good test in a few days where this team is. But, if this division is horrible again (not likely to be as bad as last year, but hypothetically), I still won't be happy hanging around with 5 or 6 wins. At some point this team has to take a step forward.

Exactly. If you are between 5-10 years old and this is your first year watching the team, then sure, this seems like overreacting. But, for the majority of teen to adult fans, this game was just an extension of several years of a completely shitty product in every way imaginable.

Well said. They can change personnel, coaches, and FO all they want but until the organizational philosophy changes the results will continue to be poor.

As far as tonight goes, the giants could have been shut out. Yeah the D sucked too, but the offense was scary bad

Overreacting predictable. Funny thing is everyone forgets that with few exceptions we don’t know which teams are good or bad yet. Every year it’s the same.

Really, the worst part of today was how bad the D looked. Our vaunted cover guys were just picked apart. Our run D was not stout. We didn’t set the edge well. When we did get pressure TB had ways to escape. And they played the small ball game perfectly, dinking and dunking us to death. And they went on 4th and we didn’t make them pay any of those times.

But, it’s a marathon. Our last SB year we were like 8-8 before getting on a run. Not saying we’re that by any stretch, but FFS, it’s week 1 of 17.

A team that has been losing 10+ games year in and year out tends not to get the benefit of the doubt.
