Hey All,
I know we are all pissed....
jesus this place is hella sad right now.
Look, we all agree we looked like shit today, but barkley rusty, OL still gellin, offensive guys getting no camp time due to injury and new guys adjusting to scheme. There are plenty of reasons for some struggles today offensively vs a good defense.
Our defense was my concern today for sure....thats a group i expected to play MUCH better. IMO, they cost us the game as TOP was insane and we couldnt get off the field on 3rd or 4th down. There were several blown coverages and we made bridgewater look like montana. He was just dinking and dunkin and picking us apart.
That being said, its a new week now. Lets focus on washington. ...its 100% a winnable game...we did beat them twice last year no? truth is if a couple things go differently today we probably win.
1. jones fumble - def a huge play in game, prob diff game if he doesnt fumble as it was definitely a good decision to take off and use his legs (this is a major asset of his as teams can get hurt when playing man coverage against us)
2. martinez missed tackle on 4th down inside 10...he makes that play we have ball down 3 and thats a tacklet he makes 9 out of 10...today was that 1 time.
3. The offensive playcalling (very scared this wont get fixed). My god were they shitty in the redzone. There is no creativity and the plays were just like one read and jones had to throw away. Where was the creativity here? How about a backfield of barkley and toney? Get toney on jet sweep? roll jones out? move pocket? It just seemed so boring and not creative enough to score points in redzone where your offense has to look somewhat different than it does at midfield.
4. few blown coverages in big spots (graham has to clean it up and I have confidence he will). The defense has the talent to rebound.
5. Hate blaming refs, but MY GOD. there were several holding calls on denver that went uncalled and there was a CLEAR delay of game as it was 2 seconds after it hit 00 and the broncos ended up scoring a TD on that drive, that was a huge non call imo. Also I felt the roughing on ojulari was chincy as hell and in a very big spot. They also didnt call roughing on the jones slide when I felt there was. Not saying refs cost us but some of those things go our way, it could have been a different outcome.
Overall, it sucked balls, but I think BBI needs to chill on the panic. Its a LONG season and im fine with this YOUNG team facing some adversity. Lets see how they respond on a short week.
Good news? Skins and cowboys lost, if we beat wash, they are 0-2 with a loss in division. Lets also look at some of the positives of the game.
1. The OL didnt look great but there were only about 3 plays where i said jesus this OL sucks, thats a large improvement. As part of that, thomas looked very good today IMO. he wasnt really the issue. I thought peart and solder were dogshit.
2. Whether you want to admit it or not, jones was efficient and I think he made a lot of smart decisions (taking off running) **obv he still has to protect football as he is shit in this area. He also needs to be more decisive (i dont think playcalling helps in this area and I KNOW OL doesnt help in this area). He has to be concerned and thinking about the pressure. I am sure that clock in his head is much shorter than most NFL QBs.
3. Overall, the offense moved down the field when given a shot, just dumb mistakes hurt them in their limited opportunities on offense.
4. The defense was shit and as mentioned, cost them the game. The good news? Its a VERY talented group and i think if any group can rebound on the team, its them because they are talented and we know this.
5. Golladay is ad advertised with his catch radius, no doubt a nice player to have as a weapon
6. shep looked AWESOME. seriously, never felt as good about shep as i did today. He looks quicker and smoother in his route running. really nice stuff there.
7. Ojulari looks like he is actually gonna be a player. I get ghe roughing (i felt it was chincy) but he got his first sack and looks like he plays with a high motor. He may actually be a really good pass rusher with some experience. Loved the pic on draft night, feel really good about it now.
Okay, now before everyone says, wow you work for giants or DG and company love you. I am NOT saying today was in any way good. I am not trying to spin it. I am simply trying to point out the good(because there was some) and I am trying to say its a long season and its not even close to over...
Thursday does become a MUCH more important game now though as 0-2 isnt pretty.
That being said, this is a totally different game if the defense doesn't give up three 4th-down conversions and/or the offense comes away with points on any of the three deep drives that resulted in no points in the second half.
It's easy to see what the problems were.
Defense has to make the offense pay when they go for it like that.
Our offense has to run the football until the skill players get in sync.

I agree. Was surprised we failed on 4th down. felt good about our def this game. was very surprised as felt we were the same unit but much improved with adding jackson and ojulari but I guess give credit to broncos OC (who is that bum? LOL) They were well prepared and we werent...
The one that stood out to me was without a doubt when it looked like we were going to sack him( I think it was ojulari) and it was on 3rd down and he rolled right escaping what seemed to be a definite sack and through to middle field accross his body. I mean such a good play but it just felt like one of those okay this isnt our day type plays
giving up TD's on both those drives was the difference. Giants were leading 7 - 3 and then were down 17 - 7 in two drives and 10:30 of clock.
On the drive right after the half the Broncos converted 3 3rd downs and a 4th down.
All in all on both drives the Broncos converted all 3rd downs or 4th downs (obviously since they scored TD's on both).
OL sucks, running game is meh, the other teams TE's kill us every game while ours do ZERO. TOP to the other team by leaps and bounds as usual.
And Jones fumbles in a horrible spot... AGAIN.
I'm really beginning to HATE this team.

The end of the first half sucked (and I talked about how I worried about our defense doing that in the game preview).
However, that didn't cost us the game. Was anyone really surprised it was a 3-point game at halftime?
What was humiliating was the collapse in the second half.
Not counting each team's last meaningless drive, each team only had three meaningful drives in the second half.
This game changed in those six possessions...three scoring drives for Broncos, three turnovers for Giants (2 turnovers on downs). But the Giants were in position to score on those three drives. And the Giants couldn't get off the damn field on 2 of the first three drives of the second half. (The inexcusable kick in the nuts was the 70 yard TD run).
THIS.
When a team goes for it on 4th down, you have to make them pay.
It can completely change a game around.
And yet the Broncos were 3-of-3.
Dallas has a doofus HC and a bad D but I don’t see the Giants beating Dallas for the division. If you thought today was bad, wait until they face a Dallas offense that features an exponentially better QB, OL, and skill players. Tampa has one of the best fronts in the league and they still had problems pressuring Dak.

was lost at the end of the first half and beginning of the second half. It's like a coaches dream - the reason they defer is to have it work out just like it did for the Broncos.

I said giving up TD's both ends of the half lost the game.
going from up 7 - 3 to down 17 - 7 gassed the D and this offense has not shown capable of coming back.
It's not all the same old shit, but it's the same old shit. There are some minor improvements: Jones didn't throw an INT. Rushed for one score and passed for another.
Today is the first time I have had doubts about Joe Judge. Last year, I thought he did pretty well under very difficult circumstances and the team showed marked improvement in the last 8 games. This was exactly what we didn't want to see to start the season.
There are lots of reasons why this happened today, but not really excuses. Everybody from ownership down should be steaming after that game. They were embarrassed. I don't need them to talk about it, but I need them to fuckin' do something about it.

Thank you….I’ve only read two threads and I’m surprised to see who people are blaming and not seeing how our defense allowed Teddy to have long drives eating up a ton of clock and scoring like they did just before half and after second half kickoff. Killer tds, both.
But I guess the DJ haters and Jason Garrett haters are much louder. Interesting how you hardly see Patrick Graham’s name being mentioned…mostly Garrett and Jones. Yet Graham’s until absolutely stunk. And they were given a huge break with a freakish turnover at the 5yard line.

Fair or not Graham has earned more leeway with some people than Garrett because last year his unit took a dump on Garrett's unit.

And the drive before the Denver's TD drive, Ryan made a great play for force a turnover deep in Giants territory to stop at least 3 points... and the offense responded with a measly three and out.
Booker, 1 yard.
Penny, incomplete.
Rudolf, 2 yards.
Only 1:40 burned off the clock.
I think the game was lost right there.

Yes, i mentioned the playcalling was shit and this was a perfect example...he called that drive not to lose instead of trying to win

I’m more worried about the saints in 3 weeks they are going to curb stomp us
Couldn't believe he said it and inferred it again - and again.

After watching yesterday's game, I have no idea how anyone thinks we beat Washington on Thursday night. None. & I know we own Washington.
How badly our O-line played, especially in the run game?
What happened to all those holes that Wayne Gallman ran through last season?
No O-Line. No pass rush. No pass defense. And a QB who fumbles at inopportune times.
We’re rooting for a bunch of players who are accustomed to losing and seem quite comfortable with that.
And nothing will change until this entire franchise is torn down and rebuilt from the ground up. There’s precious little to salvage with this hot mess.
The turnovers by Jones is just killing any faith i have in him, He has talent, you can see it, that Pass to slayton was an abolute dime..
The defense has to get off the damn field, that drive to end the 1st qbsolutely was terrible by the defense can not let that happen..
Garrett sucks plain and simple, after a great play he runs an end around and loses 8 yarda, like wtf are you doing

I agree with everything you said. Indeed, if every facet of play was at the level of our pass blocking, then the Giants would have at least played a competitive football game. Alas, what we saw yesterday was a team then never really made it out of the locker room.
On one series, where the Giants recovered a fumble deep in their own territory, the Giants run Saquan into the line for a one yard gain, throw a short pass incomplete on second down and complete a short pass to a check down on third down. Three and out after what could have been a momentum changing turnover. Where was a pass attempt to Galloway? You recover a fumble, take a shot to your star receiver. It was the. And there I felt the game got away from the Giants.
I agree with you on that one. Teddy B was really good yesterday.
When's the last time our QB clearly outplayed the other team's QB?

Facing a backup QB and a team they’ve owned. The bigger issue is the ceiling for this team as constructed and what direction the organization needs to go to get this right.

It’s not about confidence in the Giants, it’s more about the lack of confidence in WFT. If Fitz was healthy I would think we’d be in line for one of his random 300 yard 4 TD games. But he’s not.
Take nothing for granted until this team puts together 4 solid quarters of a complete football game.
