Joe Judge and his coaching staff

M.S. : 9/13/2021 6:45 am

It's easy enough to point a finger at yesterday's non-existent run game, pass rush and secondary. But such futility misses an important point.

Joe Judge and his entire coaching staff failed to get this team up and ready to play in its home-opener. The Giants never answered the bell and simply played a non-competitive football game. In all phases.

From 1964 to 1980 Giants fans engaged in an annual debate -- is it the personnel or is it the coaching? In pro football, the two are inseparable.

Ass coaches sometimes lose their teams when losses pile up. I can see a mutiny if he’s making the team run laps as penalties if they are 2-8

I don't know why, but yesterday the team never seemed to make it out of the locker room.

Agreed...

This is the dangerous cliff the this Giants team is staring over at this point.
Agree, Judge and his dozens of coaches did not have the team ready
ZogZerg : 9/13/2021 7:19 am : link
I didn't see the passion on the side lines from the players that I saw watching other teams.

The defense was especially putrid! They have no excuse for coming out and looking like dog shit.

The defense could stop a high school football team.

The D could stop HS, but not college

The Giants just always look old and stale..
Sean : 9/13/2021 7:24 am : link
When was the last time the Giants offense was exciting to watch? Just watching the Eagles yesterday, Hurts is running around making plays. The Falcons stink, but are we confident Jones and the offense would have similar results?

Everything is such a grind with this team. It shouldn’t be this difficult.

Obvious to me. They need to play. All we heard on here was keep players in bubble wrap until the season starts. Well, at some point these guys need to play together. It's that simple.

Exactly, the Eagles hire innovative offensive minds and they get the results because of that. We hire fossils like Garrett and Shurmur to run our offense and we get the results we deserve for those hires

So Shurmur didn't call a great game yesterday?

Honestly, not really? Our defense broke down more than he called a “great” game. How many third and longs did we give up or even fourth and longs. How many mistackles were there. The Giants defense has a ton to do with the Broncos success. It was atrocious. And, if you thought Shurmur was an innovative offensive game caller when he was here or even yesterday, not sure what to tell you. Shurmur isn’t nearly as bad as Garrett but he wants exactly Kyle Shanahan either
Who are these innovative offensive minds?
robbieballs2003 : 9/13/2021 7:58 am : link
Siriani isn't doing anything innovative. They beat a bad Atlanta team. I tried telling people that Philly wasn't going to be a pushover. They could have the best OL in the NFL. They were just better than Atlanta. Nobody has changed the game since maybe McVay was hired. It has nothing to do with age.
Shurmur clearly
Dnew15 : 9/13/2021 7:59 am : link
out classes the Black Picasso yesterday. Not sure how anyone can see it any other way.

You've also got to hand it to Teddy B. He played significantly better than DJ.

In my eyes - those are the two biggest factors in yesterday's loss.
It would be interesting

To know how many players blew assignments yesterday.

So your take is that Shurmur was really a good OC here, but a bad coach. Ok, not Mike, but ok.
I dont know what I was more pissed about
GNewGiants : 9/13/2021 8:30 am : link
The challenge flag or the non timeout by Judge was 1:20 to go before the half on 4th down.

Judge was really really really bad yesterday.

He owned up to that in his press conference. That is not why we lost the game though.

We got dominated on the line of scrimmage. Their bodies up front were better than ours. Plain and simple...

Been a theme for 10 years...
WE NEED A NEW OC
Alamo : 9/13/2021 8:51 am : link
Our current play caller calls plays like a HS Coach..No imagination what so ever..Very predictable..The other teams DC has an easy job play calling against our offence..When I seen that we hired our current HS coach in waiting,to be our OC,I knew we were doomed..I loved him as a Cowboy coach, because Stephen A. abused him after every loss..Now WE are stuck with him..
It's well documented that Shurmur is good at getting the most
Ten Ton Hammer : 9/13/2021 8:56 am : link
out of QBs that don't have the big arm, or would otherwise be considered an average player. He does things on offense that make it easy for the QB to excel. Not that he's inventing a new way to play offense. He's not. Shurmur is doing what Reid was doing on offense 20 years ago that made McNabb look like a star. Nothing revolutionary, just concepts that have worked in the league for a long time.

I could of played better then DJ also with so many wide open receivers to throw to!
Yesterday was a disaster for Joe Judge and his whole staff
arniefez : 9/13/2021 11:11 am : link
There is no way you could watch that game and think this was a well coached team that just needs more talent.

That's what the Giants were most weeks last year. The team believed the coaching staff was doing the best they could with what they had for lack of a better term. That's why even at 1-7 they kept playing hard and had a better 2nd half of the season.

But things can go south very quickly in the NFL. When 2017 started after a 10-6 season did any Giant fan think McAdoo wouldn't even make it to the end of that year?

Judge better get this turned around quickly because if this another 2-6 or 1-7 first half and another 4 or 5 win year even he might not be here next year.
You win games by dominating the LOS on both sides of the ball
Rick in Dallas : 9/13/2021 11:40 am : link
Yesterday we did neither. Football ain’t rocket science. It’s about blocking and tackling baby!!!
It's time to question everything.
mittenedman : 9/13/2021 11:51 am : link
I had never heard of Joe Judge and immediately laughed out loud when it was announced they hired him. A no name coach on the heels of McAdoo & Shurmur when I already had 1.5 feet out the door as a fan.

He then brings in all his college bros. VACANCY for anyone from Alabama or Georgia. It's a different level. These college boys are just got out-classed by career NFL'ers Fangio & Shurmur. (The Broncos also have Munchak at OLine Coach. We have college boy Sale.) These guys have been coaching against the SEC. What do they know about countering NFL operations?

As much as I can't stand Garrett, I wonder if he looks around sometimes and thinks "JHC". College staff vs. pro staff.
Huge red flag!
trueblueinpw : 9/13/2021 12:03 pm : link
Whether ultimately right or wrong many of us having been pointing out problems with Jones and Barkley, Garrett and Getty and other things. But we’ve all pretty much agreed that Judge showed promise and gave us something to be optimistic about when evaluating the Giants.

But yesterday was a shit show and that’s 100 percent on Joe Judge. Does Garrett suck? Was Barkley used right? Did Jones protect the Duke? Were the special teams special? Was the team disciplined?

See, all these things are the responsibility of Judge. The Giants weren’t ready yesterday and that’s on Judge. It’s only one game. It’s only one game. It’s only one game! We better hope and pray that Judge isn’t in over his head. Listening to Judge at the post game presser, he just sounded like a cheer leader type talking about doing better for the fans and yada, yada. Not much to say there that’s going to be well received but still the same he sounded like a lightweight.

Washington is now a huge game. Must win? At game two of the season? No. But it’s a big game. And as long as this team fails to win the pressure is going to keep building on Judge. We need to hope and pray he’s up to the task.
Nick Sirianni
jacob12 : 9/14/2021 7:34 pm : link
I was impressed with the Eagles offense. The Eagles made a shift toward an RPO-heavy offense. Nick leaned on Jalen Hurts strengths as a player. Hurts played his best game as a pro.

Jalen is not a natural passer but he played superbly. Most of the Eagles receivers were wide open and Nick Sirianni's offense deserves credit.

Time will tell if Jalen Hurts is a starting NFL QB.
