First, the Giants must win the next two games…..or the season will be over before it starts, again. As The Saints , Rams are not currently winnable, and unless the defense figures it out, nor will the Dallas game……an 0-6 start will doom the season. The next 2 games are winnable, easier than yesterday and what looks like the Giants only hope.
One of the more frustrating games, with the fan base already in a 9+ year losing streak, has everyone on the cliff’s edge with good reason.
Now, I thought the OL played well enough….did not create any holes run blocking and the RT had their issues….but overall, well enough, considering they are the weakest link.
Daniel Jones must stop bird dogging the receivers and another fumble is just not acceptable…..but my biggest concern is his lack of fire. He might act like Eli….but Eli always had a fire in his belly….the ability to carry the team on his back when needed…..and if Daniel Jones has it….he better show it.
This game, I put the blame squarely on the coaches…..the game plan sucked. They played not to lose, while the other guys pulled out all the stops!!!! UGH….was that frustrating.
After Logan Ryan fumble, the Giants had to know the game plan needed tweaking. Denver moved the ball with an urgency to go on every 4th down, it seemed. The Giants had to know…they needed a long sustained drive…..to give the defense some rest and they could have broken Denver, with a TD of their own….How did the Giants response with 2 meekly rush attempts and a way too short pass… punt!!! ...Game was lost right here…..if you ask me.
The Giants played not to loss and Denver played to win. The Giants didn’t touch the ball for what seemed like 3 hours….reminded me of the ‘90 Super Bowl, but it was Denver controlling the clock, the tempo, and the game…..they took a 7-3 deficit to a 17-7 advantage and never looked back. Game Over.
Sure, Jone’s fumble hurt…but when an offense is on the sidelines for that long….what do you expect?
Why do they have 2 very good press man corners, if the plan was to play a soft zone, which they do not do well. Why? Bend not break became bend until you break.
So frustrating…..so many plays that could have been stopped, weren’t. Bridgewater was Houdini, always escaping…..UGH…so frustrating.
These players were not put in the best position to succeed. Certainly did not play to their strength. Were the coaches that afraid of the Broncos?
I expected a defense that controlled the tempo.....they were never in a position to do it...rushing 3, playing what seemed like a soft zone keeping everything in front. why? Black Picasso reading his press clipping? this experiment was a failure.
Garrett needs to stop calling the plays…..please god…..there is enough plays in his system to make it work….but he must stop calling the plays…predictable, uninspiring and just not good enough. Sure, the players must execute the plays better…..but what ever happened to putting the players in the best place to succeed? Everyone can see that Jones does better in a up tempo. Barkley was not nearly himself so running him into the line seemed like a waste. Play action anyone?
Judge….this game was on you and your staff….fix it and fix it fast…..Thursday is a must win.
You know there were glimpses of good things -- Golladay does look like the real deal
Rudolph looks the part but never got going
Azeez looks like he could be the real deal
Board also is looking like he's a player
Gates is also a playa
Booker showed some promise
but
Adoree Jackson was hugely disappointing
Darnay Holmes was disappointing
Love was disappointing
Peppers was disappointing
Jones was disappointing
Peart -- was WTF?
Barclay was not impactful
even Martinez was off his feed
this was just overall a bad game - the positives were drowned out by the disappointing stuff
Why not play more man to man on the outside? it just felt like the defense was content letting Bridgewater dink and dunk, you played a qb that likes to dink and dunk and you made it easy for him..
I just didnt get it from the defensive side, you have a great secondary, that should allow you to be agressive and they just werent it was weird to me
10yds off line...read and react.
But in Preseaaon......all they showed practicing were man on man.....
I thought Jones was fine but thats it fine, he needs to realize his legs need to be a weapon, force a defense to hesitate when they drop back into coverage and he just doesnt use them..
Garett just sucks, olain and simple..
it seemed like the game plan for both sides was not to be agressive, it was weird..

It delt like the gameplan was not to lose rather than impose their will, i didnt really see any oress coverage with blitzing linebackers and safeties and force bridgewater to throw into traffic..
every 3rd down was zone
Denver had NO RESPECT for Giants D. They continually went for it on 4th down and converted.
Press 3 corners with 2 high safeties is their best option....imo and i.didn't see it
And Gates knows exactly how to act in post-play "discussions"
The baby gloves on Saquan were a big factor too. Would love to know if he was instructed to not kick anything outside or if he was afraid to try to pop one out but there were 2 or 3 plays I was looking for that jump cut to the outside where we have seen him be able to make guys miss and turn it into a big play and SB cut back up into the pile.
Also the only pass to him was dropped but Jones rushed throws into tight spots that could have been checked down to SB. Again was Jones told to try and get the ball to someone else or did he not think to check it down?
Jones fumble was agonizing but I wont kill him the same for making a play and fumbling as I would for his normal stand back dont feel the rush and drop the ball. If he didnt have the history the fumble wouldnt be as big of jumpi g off point dor Jones bashing.
My biggesr concern was Jones progression through his reads. He was sticking on guys the whole way and then in the 2nd half he mafe one read and took off running. Moblie Qbs and running QBs are 2 different things. Jones can run well but he needs to learn how to buy time with his feet and keep his eyes down field. Bridgewater shreded us by buying time. Jones needs to whatch the film with the defense this week and see how its done.
Defense was soft. All around guys were playing on their heels. Pass rush had a bit of push but no explosiveness and again noboy to be feared. Holmes and Adoree seemed lost and Carter seems to have noticed its not August anymore. We need to see more rotation on the edges until one of these guys shows he belongs.

forgot to mention on the positives -- Shepard came ready to play!!!
Good job on the hires John Mara. Oh and ramming Jason Garrett down Judge's throat. Brilliant idea!
The CBs and safeties were playing soft all game in general. I cant understand that. On paper we have one of the best units and we didnt put them in position to succeed.
On Daniel Jones, I have excused his fumbling issue but excuses are over right now. That was a killer when the game was still in reach. I think the talent is there, but something is missing from his game.
Barkley was used poorly especially after coming off injury. He is not a between the tackles runner but we pumped him inside almost every time. I dont understand that. Get him in space.
I agree that the OL played fairly well in the passing game, not so much in the run game.
My biggest frustration is with the coaches. Our gameplans on O an D were terrible. To come out and lay an egg like that just feels like the season is going to be rough. It was a winnable game and if we miss the playoffs by one game this will be one game too look back on.
I watched in a bar so I missed a lot of things but this was such a boring team to watch on O an D. The O was vanilla and uninspiring and the D was not attacking at all from beginning to end.
Have you seen the Packers for the past several years? They deserve the comment "let's give them another game or two".
Do our guys?
He’s one of my favorite players on this offense period. One of the few that plays with any passion, he’s the type that seems to hate losing and isn’t complacent with status quo.
I know this is naive fan on the couch stuff but I would put Gates at RT. I know Price was a bust for the Bengals but he has to be a better center than Solder and Peart are RT's and Gates was way better at RT than anyone else on the current roster.
I know, I know I'm not at practice, the coaches know better, etc etc. that ship has sailed and it's not going to happen. Doesn't mean I don't wish it would.
Eric had it right in that the 3 4th down conversions played a big part in the results yesterday. Still we saw inability to play good defense on third downs or get any sort of a running game going.
Yesterday was such a winnable game. Whether is was coaching or execution the team was so flat. Yes, I know it is one game but they had opportunity to get of to a good start and show they were an improved, disciplined and highly motivated team and what I saw yesterday made me incredulous & bitter... am just disappointed today but turning the page to Thursday.

I actually thought Ojulari looked like a JAG. Not much explosion, no type of counter moves. His sack was a text book coverage sack.
Pass rush in general was a dud. Look at what Melvin Ingram did for PIT yesterday. Giants could have had him but instead gave out contracts to guys like Odenigbo, Anderson, and Ross
