Jones and Golladay

nygiants16 : 9/13/2021 9:48 am
My last thread i promise:

I dont think Jones knows how to play with a number 1 receiver yet, he doesnt realize when your number 1 has 1 on 1 he is your read..Throw him the ball, he is a number 1 for a reason..

He was not comfortable throwing to him yet, there was a few times he had Golladay 1 on 1 and didnt look his way..

It doesnt matter what else you have when you habe a number 1 you get him the ball when the matchup calls for it
This needed its own thread.....

I thought that Kenny G
Dnew15 : 9/13/2021 9:53 am : link
made some really good, highly contested catches yesterday.

He should be a bigger part of the game plan early moving forward.

I'd like to see more Kenny G and significantly less of Slayton moving forward.
Ummm

He played like he had glue on his hands. There was a few catches that I asked myself - "Did he really catch that?"

I thought Golladay had a good game yesterday.

Had that thought.

Although it was garbage time, Golladay was just hauling in some pretty contested throws.

Hopefully it's a comfort thing and he'll adjust - but it looked like Jones was locking in on Slayton much of the time
I don't know if this was more Garrett or Jones

but pretty late in the first half, I was wondering where's Golladay? They finally had a nice big play towards the end of the half. Then again he wasn't targeted much in the 3rd Q. It wasn't until the game was out of hand, when they targeted him multiple times. WTF?

He should be the first target. Slayton should be 3rd or 4th.
They seem afraid to take
Ned In Atlanta : 9/13/2021 10:20 am : link
shots down the field. Maybe they're afraid that the o line sucks and DJ doesn't have great pocket presence so they're afraid of a sack/fumble. But seems like getting the defense to respect the deep pass might help open things up elsewhere
and i am not saying it wont get better with time
nygiants16 : 9/13/2021 10:22 am : link
and that is probably a big part of it but there were a couple of times where it looked Golladay had a step and Jones either didnt see it or didnt want to let it go..

On the run where Jones fumbled, it looked like Golladay had a step going to the corner of the end zone and Jones ran instead, easy for us to see in the crowd but still just one example..

I hate to be the one to break this to you, but that's also Golladay. I watched a lot of him when I had him in fantasy - he's not a volume guy, so there will be long periods of the game where it seems like he's not involved, because he's not.

He's an 7-8 target, 4-5 catch per game receiver. Has been his whole career. Ideally, one or two of those catches will be a big one that either goes for a TD or sets one up.

What u all are saying, but certain plays are for certain wrs. It’s not like they call the play and he just looks at KENNY G. The read is not the wr it is what the defenders do in that particular play

Yes but go watch any QB with a number 1, if that receiver has 1 on 1 they audible and they go to that number 1 receiver..

You are supposed to make the defense pay for playing one on one vs your number 1..

and the read should absolutely be the receiver, that is ehy you have audibles

I can live with 7-8 targets (7.5 per game = 120 over 16, which would put him around #20 in the league last yr), but through the first half, he was on pace for 2 targets.

He was eventually targeted 6 times with 4 catches, but it was too little too late. Why TF was Slayton (catching 3 out of 7 tgts) being targeted over Golladay?

I'm at the point where I'd rather go 2 TE w/ Rudolph and Smith in there vs. Slayton. Slayton's not as turnover prone as EE, but his hands aren't much better.

I'm not necessarily endorsing this thread. Just ... made me laugh.
Golladay needs to be Jones’ second look - every time.
Ivan15 : 9/13/2021 12:56 pm : link
Jones first look should be for anyone but Golladay who might make a big play. When that isn’t there, his second look should be to Golladay. If he is blanketed (because we are told he can win 50% of the balls thrown his way), the next look is to dump off or run.

Simple, right? LOL
Anything to keep him from locking on to his first read.
