In my quest to distract myself from another let down, I came across this. Girl and guy travel X country in a van, going to national parks, documenting along the way on social media and poof, she vanishes. The weird part is the boyfriend makes it home, he's not cooperating and the family can't talk either. It looks like a simple homicide but how on Earth could he be so stupid? It's all documented along the way and she up and disappears? It's incredibly unsettling.

Of course I believe in due process, innocent until proven guilty, but it's not hard to imagine they had a fight, maybe she was reconsidering marriage to the loser and he couldn't handle it.
I know of a young couple that went on a long sailing trip after their wedding. Just the two of them for a month or so. They didn't finish the trip and were divorced quickly. At least the women didn't disappear.
My prayers go out to this young lady and her family. Unfortunately, it seems doubtful she'll be found alive.
Tragic story. Sometimes you cant believe this stuff is real. I feel for the family, not knowing may be worse than knowing the awful truth.

It really depends on how smart the guy is when in for questioning. It already sounds like some text were sent after last contact they will ping locations and break down his testimony very few of these guys can handle the pressur3 that will come down on him.
This poor girl was most likely murdered and hopefully they’ll find the proof to put this nut job away forever.

One really has me nervous about justice being served. I know its early in the investigation, but they covered such a long distance. Im assuming she is dead and the body could be anywhere. Without a body, it will be hard to prosecute.

Yeah if they find the body Ill feel much better about it. But the dirtbag already lawyered up so there wont be answering questions. Every attorney will advise him not to answer anything. They need the body, and at this point, it could be anywhere given how far they traveled and the weeks between last contact and his return. Thats what has me worried, that they may not even be able to go to trial without a body.

“On behalf of the Laundrie family it is our hope that the search for Miss Petito is successful and that Miss Petito is re-united with her family,” said the statement, issued through an attorney.
“On the advice of counsel the Laundrie family is remaining in the background at this juncture and will have no further comment,” it said.
Laundrie retained a lawyer and has refused to cooperate with police since returning to his North Port home on Friday without Petito, 22, with whom he had been on a cross-country trip.
Not cooperating ?
She disappears and he doesn't call the Cops ...? ... He goes home?
Condolences to her family.
Slinks back home to mommy and daddy and hides...what could possibly be wrong with that?
Hopefully the van is in control of the police in Florida.
This story is not going to have a happy ending unfortunately.
This guy is obviously just stupid. To leave the area without her and without calling local police or calling her parents is just stupid.
Unfortunately they may only have circumstantial evidence and as bad as this looks, there may not be enough evidence to convict him. They need the body and a way to prove that he did it.
Sometimes no body, no weapon, no DNA, no eye witnesses, sketchy motive, IOW no real evidence, but still conviction.
I'm not saying they get it wrong, who really knows (until and if we do eventually actually know they got the wrong guy), but I do sometimes struggle with understanding how a jury wasn't able to at least allow for reasonable doubt in many cases like I described above.
the whole world before any facts are known probably felt like in unison "the boyfriend did it" so lawyering up did nothing to change that, so I agree he had little downside.
And the downside was that the family I think deserves answers at least about how the circumstances became what they were. IOW, how they became separated. If she's alive or was alive when they left he should provide the facts through his attorney and be available for questioning with his attorney present. Not get thrown in a room for 24 hours and wore down by psychological tactics designed to elicit a confession.
If she's not alive then obviously that changes things and he's in plead the 5th mode or just wait until legally forced into a tactic vs if she were alive feeling like I don't want to get this pinned on me by the court of public perception but nothing I say or do will avoid that so say nothing.
No further details who called on them or why. One reporter says he heard it was a domestic dispute, another said they were described as a "creepy couple" following people.
“No service in Yosemite,” the message read.
But Schmidt said that she doesn’t believe her daughter was behind the text.
“I do not believe the text on August 30th was from my daughter,” Schmidt said.
Asked why she had her doubts, Schmidt replied, “The van was in Florida on the first [of September]. I think I can do the math.”
Schmidt declined to comment on who she believes sent the text and whether she received any other unusual messages.
I know, I just applied it to this case, but I am in agreement.
The statement, released on behalf of the 22-year-old’s parents by family attorney Richard Stafford, slammed Brian Laundrie for leaving Petito “in the wilderness” while he sits at home.
“Brian let Gabby in the wilderness with grizzly bears and wolves while he sits in the comfort of his home,” it said. “In his home!”
“Brian, how could you do this to Gabby? You selfishly remain silent while Gabby is all alone in the wilderness,” the family said. “Brian, your silence is reprehensible! We beg you to do the right thing and help us bring Gabby home.”
Usually at least 7 years, though it varies by state.

Someone be missing before they are declared dead? I am guessing a long while.

“Right now, we are investigating a missing person case,” North Port Police Chief Todd Garrison said at a press conference.
Asked if there was any criminality, Garrison answered, “Not at this time.”
“At this time, it’s a missing person case,” he said.
Man I hope this whole thing is some dumb type of staged setup by the couple to get attention or something, but it’s sure playing out like a tragedy for both their families.
"Bye son, have fun in Argentina"
The bf missing isn't really weird. He's on the lam.
He just went out for a snack
They could go to jail for faking this too
Apparently he does not have a cell phone. So, no way to track his pings. They need to get him on gas station cameras.

yeah, I remember that hoax about the boy in the hot air balloon. both parents served short jail stints plus had to pay restitution for the search and rescue efforts (I believe).
obviously the stakes may be higher here, but it just seems so surreal and so many coincidences I wouldn't be surprised if there is something shifty going on vs something criminal or maybe not just something criminal.

BREAKING: FBI says remains were found today in Wyoming and they are consistent with the remains of
Gabby Peitio. The body was found where search was going on for Gaby. Her fiancé Brian Laundrie is a person of interest in the case and he hasn’t been seen in roughly a week.
