NGT- Is Lamar Jackson hurting himself being his own agent?

jvm52106 : 9/13/2021 12:26 pm
The article linked here discusses Jackson's contract extension negotiation and how that is on hold because he is immersed in his job.

What are your general thoughts on this? I think, based on where he is at, every day without a contract, without some guarantees, he risks his future. The Ravens have seen the injury bug hit hard and with that the running game will be relied on even more from Jackson.

Do you think he is hurting himself by not using an agent?

It seems absolutely absurd that the type of money he's going to make

he's haggling over giving his agent 10%.

I mean him and his whole family is set for life, and with any halfway decent money manager, his extended family would be set for life. He's an idiot.

and I wouldn't have stepped foot on the field this year if I was him. Even a shitty agent would have convinced him of that.
I think it is dumb, but a couple of things

Many players (and teams) don't like to negotiate during the season. I'm not sure how much that is delaying discussions right now.

Maybe he is trying to set himself up as an agent for other players when his playing days are done? Not sure that is worth the gamble, but can't believe it is simply to save himself 10%.
One of the turn-offs with LJax...

leading into the 2018 draft was his mother was his agent.

This is a very tough negotiation for the Ravens. LJax is so unorthodox as a player, but he's incredibly productive and he wins. A real NFL unicorn.

He's a great front runner. I really wish, however, he would work on his throwing approach and footwork. Because he absolutely needs to upgrade in that area to get even better...
as a quarterback with his skillset...

with all the injuries the Ravens have now, I'd sign the second contract RIGHT NOW. Get the money before he gets hurt carrying the ball 15 times a game now that his entire backfield is out.

See that is my thought as well. One, what experience does he have with numbers like this, complexities of contract etc? I am sure he has a lawyer to look things over but still.. He could easily get hurt with the amount of running he is going to have to do.
It's reckless and foolish

He can really F himself by doing this. He should leave this part to the pros and focus on his actual job.
He can

Barely complete a sentence and he's negotiating? Take your loads of money before your gimmick dries up and the Ravens realize it's a passing league, not the Big 12 circa 1985.
