Joe Judge

NJLCO : 9/13/2021 12:36 pm
Multiple conversations about our GM, OC, & QB.
Why does Joe continue to get a break? He talks a really good game. Teachers for coaches, it’s a process, building a foundation etc. Post game last night about the fans deserve better…everything sounds good out of mouth. In leadership 101 these are all activities. Activities are supposed to get you results. Yesterday I didn’t see anything different then opening day last year. How long does the process take becomes the bigger ?
We didn’t score 35 points yesterday and lose. We scored 7 and a charity score. I thought Judge was the answer but at this point I am not sure. Then couple it with no Belichick disciples ever succeeded at the next level UGH.
UGH!

honeymoon is over
GiantsFan84 : 9/13/2021 12:39 pm : link
he owns this team and this offense and the last 2 drafts. he's the head coach. it's his team
There should be concern.
mittenedman : 9/13/2021 12:40 pm : link
He's starting to approach used car salesman with his one-liners and corporate answers and he's got a 6-11 career record. He's hired all his friends from college instead of putting together an NFL football staff.

Who exactly on this 200 person coaching staff understands how to counter opposing NFL teams? Maybe if we play Auburn we can make a game of it.
I don't think he is getting a break
Mike from Ohio : 9/13/2021 12:41 pm : link
Last year he was a first year HC taking over a poor team under very unusual circumstances. He said all the right things and the team seemed to buy in.

This year needs to start showing tangible results. Yesterday was not it. It is right to be a little skeptical because the coaching overall still seems to be part of the problem, but he deserves to be evaluated more fully closer to the end of the season than the beginning.
They looked better opening day last year,
japanhead : 9/13/2021 12:43 pm : link
and the excuse then was that the team had a new coach, coordinators, and no offseason due to covid. They looked worse this year with splashy FA signings, second year in the systems, and with a full offseason of contact practices and live preseason games.

Its a big indictment on Judge that the team looked as lost as it did. The challenge flag gaffe on what was a clear TD was the kind of clueless shit that got Shurmur laughed out of the room.

Remember that Mara hired Judge as his second choice after it was clear Rhule would cost too much.
Here's what I'd like to hear from Judge

"To be honest with you, we didn't play winning football, and I'm as much if not more to blame than anyone else. Listen we got our ass kicked, plain and simple. That's got to stop, and we are on it."
Great communicator
bcinsd : 9/13/2021 12:46 pm : link
Terrible innovator.
Too conservative,
Too predictable. e.g. fake fourth down attempt on 4th and 17.
Too much emphasis on special teams.
Field position and ST does not win in today's NFL.
Yesterday was not one of Judge's better games.
Section331 : 9/13/2021 12:47 pm : link
The team came out flat, and his attempted challenge of Denver's 3rd qtr TD was especially egregious. Burning a 2nd half TO when down 2 scores was a terrible decision.

That said, he's done enough to deserve the chance to show that yesterday was just a bad game.

Good points. Because we all liked Judge we assumed it would be a linear progression of improvement. They did look better last year vs. PIT in the opener. Judge, Graham & Co were relative unknowns last year.

If they aren't the real deal, they could absolutely be worse than they were in year 1. The NFL now has a book on them. Those late-season drubbings by AZ, CLE & BAL were good places to start. Giants vaunted D couldn't stop any of them.
Wonderboy is on the hot seat now
averagejoe : 9/13/2021 12:50 pm : link
He talked his way into the job and now he needs to have results. Every player now has his own personal coach on Judges endless coaching roster but nobody seems to improve. I am beginning to think he is better at interviews than coaching. JJ needs to win some games soon.

I overall like Joe Judge
crackerjack465 : 9/13/2021 12:57 pm : link
but Jason Garrett is part of his staff. It's his responsibility.

If the offense is bad, it's not just Garrett but it gets to the top. Eventually you have to take responsibility and move on.

and that is on the coach and his staff.

All criticism is valid until the team starts winning.

But to render judgement that he needs to go after one game is not fair.

I think it's true, at some point you have to look at the record. I am stuck on 1-7 first half last year, 5-3 second half, but right now 0-1 this year. At some point the arrow has to start pointing up. I don't want to over-react to one game, but it some point it's put up or go away for this organization. You can blame the personnel, the OC, or whoever you want. At some point everyone is accountable. Let's see how the next few games go. Not much margin for error

This is BS. Rhule never left the Carolina building. He wasn’t the Giants first choice or any choice at all. And by then they had interviewed Judge and he had became the front runner.
Still believe in him

That is incorrect.

Rhule was set to fly to NJ to interview, called Mara and told him Tepper made him a 7 million dollar offer, and if he was willing to match that, he'd still come in for the interview. Mara balked at that so Rhule never got on the plane.

It was after that that Judge became the front runner.

That’s not how it works. The interviewee doesn’t set the price before interview. That’s the same as saying you not coming. No one would accept those terms for an interview. That’s nuts.

Agree. Just because Rhule was scheduled to come in for an interview doesn't indicate he was the first choice. The only fact we know is that they were scheduled to interview him as well as others, including Judge.

Yea whatever. It's a moot point now but that's what happened. Probably Rhule knew that Mara wouldn't offer him anywhere near seven mil a year so told him what the offer was as a courtesy so he wouldn't waste his or Mara's time.

Mara made the offer to Judge because he liked him and didn't want to lose him to Mississippi State after it was clear they weren't willing to get Rhule at that price.

But Rhule was the favorite. Asshats on here had said as much.
You are guessing that Rhule was the favorite
Mike from Ohio : 9/13/2021 1:18 pm : link
it is not a fact.

The fact that he was scheduled to come in and interview does not indicate he was the favorite. That just isn't how facts work.

Mara made the offer to Judge because he liked him and didn't want to lose him to Mississippi State after it was clear they weren't willing to match Tepper's price. Which is fair, 7 million is a hell of a lot for a first-time NFL head coach.

But Rhule was the initial favorite. Asshats on here said as much. I think Gettleman maybe wanted Rivera but the Giants waited til after the last game to fire Shurmur so weren't able to get an early start on their search.
oops sorry for the double post.
japanhead : 9/13/2021 1:23 pm : link
it doesn't matter either way. judge is here, rhule is not. i'm not even saying rhule would have been some kind of savior here or that i was pining for him. just that it seemed to take the giants by surprise that he never made it to the building. they offered the job to judge then because they didn't want to lose him to mississippi state.

as much as i grew to hate mcadoo and shurmur, i don't think their offenses ever looked as bad as what we've seen last year and yesterday under judge and garrett.

The idea that the wheels could fall off so bad that both GM and QB are shown the door at the end of the season and Judge could stick around. Like that was actually suggested multiple times. Who still thinks that's a good idea?
One game is only one game
Arkbach : 9/13/2021 1:45 pm : link
and Green Bay was embarrassed yesterday too so more games need to be played, but if yesterday becomes tomorrow then DG and DJ will be gone. QB hell is my fear because too many number 1 drafted QBs fail and unless Judge finds a Kerry Collins clone he is doomed.

GoTerps said that Judge cannot be fairly evaluated until Gettleman, Garrett, Jones, and Barkley are all off the team. So apparently he thinks it's a good idea? I don't disagree but I'm not sure it ever gets to that point.

TrueBlue56 : 9/13/2021 1:54 pm : link
and hire a new coach, start all over again and you guys can bitch about the new coach.

Was, rinse, repeat.

Look, we will find out about him for sure this year. Its easy to lead when you win, how will his team respond after a loss. What will this team look like towards the end of the season. I am certainly not ready to proclaim him the problem after 1 game his 2nd season.

As far as his coaches go, he has a lot of coaches with nfl experience...Garrett, Graham, Tolbert, Flaherty, Henderson, McGaughey

No experience as a head coach at any level. Never an offensive or defensive coordinator at the pro level. Being a good interviewee and Belichick's buddy should not qualify you to become head coach of the NY giants.
