shadow_spinner0 : 9/13/2021 2:36 pm
The Giants run blocking graded about league average yesterday, 13th out of 30
Link - ( New Window )
I wonder how they figure that
islander1 : 9/13/2021 2:37 pm : link
since the only person running worth a damn was Jones.

As it needs all the help it can get.
they were 13th out of 30 in runblocking
PaulBlakeTSU : 9/13/2021 2:49 pm : link
yet 28th out of 30 in yards per attempt at 3.0.
So people like PFF when they fit their agenda
RUNYG : 9/13/2021 2:51 pm : link
But not when they don’t? Ever think maybe Saquon isn’t the most valuable player if he’s not bursting one out for 50yds?

Really. We have eyes. They got no movement. Watching the Rams later and they handed off and I saw their OL actually move the defense back and a thought wow, that’s what an OL looks like. I’d forgotten.
PFF is crap
Dave on the UWS : 9/13/2021 2:59 pm : link
good or bad. yet we keep quoting them. Why??
Is this a bad joke
Rick in Dallas : 9/13/2021 3:01 pm : link
PFF sucks!!!!
Gettleman loves those run stuffers..

Problem is, that ain’t the league anymore.
After a while

I just thought Denver was playing with 13 guys on defense. It sure seemed that way.
I needed this today
bluetothegrave : 9/13/2021 4:18 pm : link
Every thread is better than the next today. PFF is terrible and Ive never quite understood their rankings, we need a challenger to their reign. 13th? How is that possible

We didn't create one hole the poster who said they thought Denver was playing with 13 guys hit the nail directly on the head.
I heard on the radio that Saquon ran only 0.8 yds before 1st contact
sb from NYT Forum : 9/13/2021 4:23 pm : link
How does that NOT indicate that the Giants run blocking was horrible?

That's amazing if true. Basically he'd get the handoff and get hit
Blocking wasn't the entire story yesterday.
Dave in Hoboken : 9/13/2021 5:02 pm : link
It wasn't great, but it being Barkley's first game in a year and his preference to dance before he hits the hole are also big factors.

So either PFF is crap, or our backs can't read/choose the right lanes.

Which is it?

Yards before first contact is a bit of a messy data point over one game.

If a back dances, cuts to the wrong hole, or goes too wide — this number can go way down. And one big TFL can drag the number down too.

Certainly, but the OL somewhat has a reputation of getting backs hit in the backfield frequently.

And the running back has a reputation for dancing and getting caught behind the line.

I think this is one of those data points like target separation that measures multiple things, and not a reflection of just one element.

From my view on Barkley, his dancing is not the cause of the negative runs. His dancing may result in a 2 yard run that could have been 4. In Barkley's career with the Giants him getting hit in the backfield has mostly been from defenders running free. Maybe I am not remembering correctly.
