They actually had a lead later in the second half against the Chargers. Heinicke did ok filling in for Fitzpatrick. WFT had a hard time getting off the field on third downs as well but held a pretty explosive offense to 20 points.
Yes we own this team as of late, but the two meetings last year were pretty close coming down to stops/turnovers at the end. This defense will be better than the Broncos but the offense looks to be worse.
As much as we like to write them off, they have a really good D and some decent depth on O outisde QB. I think this is going to be a tight game and the loser will be 0-2 which obviously is not a good sign to start the season.
What say you?
Jones has played very well against them as well. Let's hope that continues.
I think it will be close game. Am interested to see how the Washington D targets Jones and Barkley.
But i will believe it when i see it
i'm not worried about our defense. Graham doesn't get embarrassed week to week usually.
the problem is can Garrett stop being a buffoon and can Jones not kill himself with turnovers? thats a tall task it seems.
I see a 16-13 kind of game, with the good guys coming out on top.
I think even the most optimistic fans knew this was a make or break year. Everyone can agree on that. These games are conclusive evidence now.

Chargers defense is solid, losing Derwin last year was like losing a lynchpin.
I'm more curious of WFT defense being overrated without Kerrigan coming off the bench keeping Sweat and Young fresh. They looked like trash last week. Bulled over in the run game and stymied in the pass. Of course the Chargers look to have a better line than ours, but its early. Overreactions to week 1 are always abound.
I wonder how much of that factored into the game planning for week 1? I know a lof of people penciled in a W vs this team, but I think they will be more of a challenge than Denver. It will come down to who's offense is less inept IMO.
But there were times yesterday when I was calling for Glennon to come in and replace Jones. At least Glennon played a lot more of the pre-season.
If this team and coaching staff has any pride at all, they will be a differnt team come Thursday night.
That doesn't seem to be a lot to expect of a team that has put so many assets into the offensive line and the #1 running back.
I would love to win this game but I’m envisioning the same shit we’ve been watching in what seems like forever

Well based on what we saw I hope thats what our coaching staff was focused on.
The WFT DL went up against a very good LAC OL yesterday. Linsey and Slater look like massive upgrades right now. I thought the WFT did a good job holding LAC to 20 points at home. Herbert was just out of his mind on third downs - 14 for 19 I believe were the final numbers there. Just numb.
Now they get a chance to reset and play against our OL. So there could be big problems there.
I thought the WFT OL held up pretty well against that Charger D. Gave up only one sack and ran for 130. Gibson lead the charge. He's a solid RB.
But I think we match-up well with their receivers and should be able to manage Heinicke if we can force him to stay in the pocket to make decisions. I don't see that as a strength...
This garbage football is not only draining, but a grand waste of time.

I think it's funny how that logic never translates to us beating the Eagles "something's going to change soon".
On offense, we put up 20 and 23 against them last year, so putting up 21 should win the game.
Sadly yes.
LOS, I'm in a group text with a bunch of cousins & we all call him Heineken too, lots of 'When is Heineken going to get a deal from Heineken?'/'Heineken is playing with no abandon after his 9th Heineken'.

(I know his name is Heineke but I don't care it's easy to just spell Heineken rather than do what I just did now anyway which was look up how to spell Heinicke)

Hahaha he really should get a deal from Heineken... what a waste of a having the name Heineken.
I should pull back and let the month of September process first, but Sunday was way too familiar and it just looked "normal." It looked like it will happen again.
I put too much credence on Sunday, I will admit that, but what else can I do at this point. These games matter. We're talking Denver 2021 here not the 89 Niners.
We could win Thursday. Why the hell not? It's stupid Washington with a backup QB. Of course the Giants could win. Atlanta could win this game. So could Jax or any number of bad teams. We might win only to lose the next 3.
Kind of how I felt going into 2017, some differences but all in all similar. Once that first game was in the books and the NYG offense looked WORSE than the prior season, and the D was leaky at best, I knew we were fucked.
This offense looks like McAdoo's offense. I HATE getting on the play calling, but play design? I have no problems shitting on that, and the play design here looks so bad under Garrett. I don't know more than he does, but I still can't get past how they used Barkley in this first game. To me it was so dumb.
